Jon's Outdoor Winter Photoperiod Grow

I see your point but the day of the flip is simply the day you send a message to the plant to start changing modes. I do hope the seed company decides that bloom starts when you see the first actual bloom.
Interesting. I have no skin in this game, just curiosity. I only asked NASC because I know Beth a little bit and figured I may get a response. Keep in mind they are a reseller and may very well tell me they don’t know and I’d have to ask the people who made the seeds.

But whatever they say, it is important to know what they consider start of flower since their bloom estimates will be based on that. I wonder if all seed companies define it the same way or if that is something that should be stated on their marketing materials.

In the end, though as Jon correctly states, they are done when they are done, not when they "should" be according to the catalog.

Yes, but lots of people are serious about their record keeping and find value in tracking all kinds of stats on their grows. I know Shed does among many others. I’m not at all saying it has no value to know what day you’re on at all times - it does. I just don’t presently care. Lol.

No, I'm with you. I keep track for observation purposes but for those interested in the detail and are basing their harvest on breeder's estimates they should know from when to start counting.

@Emilya Green
If you noticed, I took advantage of your learning moment and called it "flip" not flower.
I also don't pay much attention to the stats provided by the seed company (s). The plants are far more informative.
Perhaps "flip" should be called "pre-flower"?

Wow lively discussion guys, thank you, and as long as we have so many growers in the mix who have been doing this way longer than me, I’ll take this opportunity to ask a question I have yet to find a satisfactory answer to.

The topic is outdoor vs indoor with respect to ambient light.

I see how much ambient light my outdoor plants are getting. Between clear nights, lots of streetlights, lots of bright house lights from all directions, and yard based equipment with lights, I have them tucked into the only “dark spot” at night. And it’s working and has always worked. No plants going male or hermie from ambient light (or what we sometimes call light pollution during dark time).

However…if I exposed a plant in a tent to this much and this intermittent ambient light during flower, it would be close to 100% of the time that the plant would at least hermie on me. This I also know from experience.

The question is simple: WHY?

Thanks!

Can't help with this one.
My outdoor grows took place in a yard with a twelve foot hedge and no street lights in close proximity.
My indoor grows are in a light-tight cabinet.

Happiness is a brand new set of @Prescription Blend nutes in the BIG bottles!!!!

Thanks so much Prescription Blend! I can’t have enough of these nutes!!

Right. Well I do the indoor part the same. Not as lucky as you outdoors. My dark spot is pretty dark though…but when the people across the pond have a party and their spot light is on…ugh. I stress. Lmao.

Crescendo
Last Night of Veg

Tomorrow morning this girl hits the outdoors to flip to flower. She’s ready to go. I have alternating nodes and the first sign of pre pistils. She’s about 40 days old. If she doubles in size she’ll be around four feet tall after the stretch (plant size). I have in my back pocket the idea that since the Mac and Jack will be gone by the time she’s done stretching, if she happens to end up the ideal height like the M and J did I may transition her back to the 3x3 and finish her up the same as M and J. Less plants outside = more stealth and less moving heavy plants around. If she’s too big she’ll stay outside with the others. (Obviously stealth isn’t my first concern, lmao)

And the answer is…..
Thank you Alyssa from North Atlantic Seed Company for your prompt response! You guys are the best.

Here’s what NASC says:

Hi Jon!

Glad to hear you're having great luck with the Ethos! The information on our site is direct from breeder sites or breeder emails, actually! The flowering time listed is referring to when you flip the lights!

Thank you for your continued support!

Alyssa

And then there were three…

Crescendo Flower Day 1

This picture shows you the superiority of @GeoPot. The two plants on the left are in solid, well constructed, very strong, 7-gallon GeoPots. The plant on the right is in a 7-gallon $2 knockoff. The difference is obvious. Thanks GeoPot.

Tropicanna Banana
Flower Day 11

Here’s our girl after 11 days of stretch, and a size comparison picture with the Crescendo. After stretching the Crescendo should be significantly larger than the TB, but likely not as big as the Mandarin Zkittlez.

Flower Day 33

Here’s LeiLei, a closeup on lower buds, and a relative scale picture of all three outdoor plants. After Laura stretches we should be looking at a Papa Bear, Mama Bear, Baby Bear situation. Maybe we’ll name the Strawberry Haze Goldilocks when she joins the party.

Here’s a couple pictures to show you the entirety of my outdoor situation. It’s not as brazen as it may seem. First shot is the whole lennai, then the side where the dark spot is. You have seen the morning yard spot.

Platinum Mimosa Cookies XXL Auto
Day 18

Almost topping time and then shortly after it’ll be time to bring the res into play. Looks like a nice solid auto so far.
