Jon's Outdoor Winter Photoperiod Grow

Hafta's weight training process could help strengthen the limbs prior to flower. Don't know if you have full access to the 4 sides of the tent though since you probably won't be taking it out to work on it.
Nope won’t be able to take it out. And yes, Hafta knows stuff. I already ride the same MSA train as him. And he understands physics as it applies to the best way to twist branches for support. He’s a keeper for sure. Lmao.

First I gotta clear this grow!! Lol.

Hi @InTheShed! Hey it was a long time ago, but do you remember when we discussed using molasses and the question about whether or not it actually sweetens the buds? I think it started as a discussion with me, you and @Emilya Green and then a bunch of others jumped in. Anyway, I had some molasses questions now that I grow in coco so I was doing research and came across this article. I think it’s pretty good and fairly comprehensive about what molasses does and doesn’t do. Check it out if you like! For those who use molasses in soil this article is excellent!!!

Interesting. I never heard that it was iron that made the buds taste sweet!

Also, they're recommending it for organic grows where bacteria is the main driver of plant nutrition. If you're feeding your plants synthetic nutes (including chelated iron) and bypassing the microbes, it doesn't mention if molasses is still helpful.
I didn’t either! And yes, I only said it was “fairly” comprehensive. Doesn’t answer all the questions.

However that said, a bit of anecdotal - take Prescription Blend for example. They tell you they add molasses to their nutes. - that it’s already there. So why would a synthetic nute add molasses to their nutes if it wasn’t beneficial in synthetics? Any validity to that argument you think?

That's a question for them, but I feel like nute manufacturers often add things to their nutes to satisfy the market as much as anything. See high P bloom boosters and instructions to feed plain water the last two weeks.

Fair enough, and that’s an excellent point.

Just a little M and J porn…..

I’m a dad again! Man do I have a lot of children.

Here’s our Arjan’s Strawberry Haze on veg day one. Last plant of this grow/journal is up!

I’ve seen prettier sprouts.

It’s actually really good - one thing I’ll say about my kids….even the oldest ones still visit me and still support me. Lmao!

It is worth the challenge Jon! This one is in 15 gallons of LOS and hit 4 walls in the 4.5 x 4.5. Almost a 5. Still hitting on her! Got just over a pound.

Thanks @StoneOtter! And wow!!! That’s a no net scenario right there!!!! Awesome plant and work. I have to do it differently by necessity, but that’s approaching what I’ll go for. How long did you veg that girl before you flipped her? I assume your goal was to finish out the fill during the stretch, right? So I see you almost got there (and to rib you a little in good fun, lol) and if the plant was flattened with a net that plant just as it is here would undoubtedly fill the tent…but without the net (here’s the rib:)) I’ve seen you do cleaner work. Lmao!!! I joke, it’s the holidays! So my real question about that is, since I’ll be using the same idea - if the full 5x5 is 100%, what is an ideal “fill %” to have in place at flip time? 60%? 75%?

Thanks Otter!

Edit: I forgot…so you also saw that the pot would not be sufficiently wide to use as the base for supporting branches that far grew out from the pot, and in your case you chose to mitigate that with the use of the yo-yo ceiling supports. Is that what I’m looking at here?

I like to fill it up so I'll say 80%.
Here's the play by play if you want to see anything. Strawberry Cough? Yes Please! LOS Grown I think some of my issue growing her was temp related and I didn't catch that at the time.

Cool thanks! And yeah, fill them you do! (I’m at least smart enough that I didn’t ask you randomly, I’ve been admiring your work almost as long as I’ve been in the forum!)

Did the Strawberry Cough make you cough? Lol.

@Jon
I've seen your skills. You can make this happen.

Check out the photo at the end of the link in my signature.
10' diameter, 5 1/2' tall. No net, no yoyos, no supports.
Topped multiple times (turns branches into limbs and speeds up spread).
Secondary branches trained across others (creates the "woven" part of the "basket" and prevents twisting).
Maintain an "arc" in every branch (more stable than a right angle).

I would expect you to get around 400 colas @ 3' spacing. Somewhere between 3 - 5 pounds of cured bud.

Give yourself a couple of feet under the plant. A lot of the training is performed from underneath!

All these gorgeous leaves on LeiLei shows you that *so far* (knock on wood) I’m winning the leaf miner battle. If it were summer I’d have half this amount of leaves. But their numbers are way reduced in what passes for cold here. I lose maybe a leaf a day, if I add it up. Since they tend to grow one at a time and are confined to one finger of a leaf, and since I check every morning first thing very thoroughly, I end up taking just the affected finger. A healthy leaf with one finger missing is still serving the plant well. That’s not bad at all other than being annoying. Leaf miners suck ass seven ways to Sunday.

Meanwhile, not a single one has touched the Tropicanna Banana yet. Maybe they don’t like that strain.

Thanks so much @Hafta!!!! Excellent advice. I’ve done or do all those things. It sounds like I just need to put them all together. And yes, for me especially in a chair, having the space to work from below is key. So I’m with you and have a question: you topped the main stalk, yes? To establish the required amount of underneath space to work, above what node did you top the main, and starting at #1, how many nodes up did you eliminate/strip?

Thanks again. This is great and I appreciate the optimism and advice.
