Jon's First Outdoor Grow: Sugar Breath Photoperiod & Strawberry Banana Autoflower

Could put an eye out with that kid!
They all look like that shape since I had to take her a couple days early. Lol. That top nubbin would have filled out. Instead, I have dense buds with penises. Oh well. Betcha it smokes okay. It's much more than I thought it was on the plant.

Still digging that Apple Blossom. One of my fave plants on the whole site at the moment!

Glad you like it, @InTheShed, cuz there's a significant percentage of Shed in the training and look of that plant. Thanks.

CJS Apple Blossom
Flower Day 30

I know I haven't posted about this plant in a while, but at the 30 day mark I decided to bite the bullet and maybe post a picture or two.:rofl::rofl:

One month into flower today. Checked out her environment this morning carefully. Decided to try my dehumidifier. I'll cover the little green light, that's simple. Wanted to see if it would have any measurable impact.

Indeed it does. This unit doesn't do much in my 5x5x9, but in this little 3x3x6,5 it has significant impact. Like 12-18 points improvement!!!! The pictures show the measurements right now, at 7:45 am or so here, and at the moment it's completely foggy outside as it is every morning until about 8:30. As a result, the humidity from approximately 4/5 am til about 9 am gets higher than I like, around 68-70% or even 75 sometimes. That's obviously too high for too long (imho), so I decided to clean up the unit and just see. You can see what I have going on right now. This is WAY better and in the acceptable range for that amount of time. Once the fog lifts she'll be in the mid to high 30's to mid 40's for the lion's share of her day and night. Both pleased and surprised that the unit is performing this way. To get an even better idea of how effective it would be, and also to display something we hear so much about, I put in a second temp/rh sensor down low. You can see that there really is a large difference in environment between below and above the canopy, just as advertised. Something to be mindful of for me.

I also checked out the foliage. I really don't feel the need to take a single leaf off this plant. All the buds are getting tons of light to a really good depth. I can easily accomplish what I want with tucking for the most part. I took one leaf today that was blocking a bud and couldn't be tucked. One. Heh. I'm going for the "keep every possible leaf on the plant for as long as possible without compromising the buds" approach on this one. I feel up to this point, between the extreme temperature swings I'd been using to bring out colors and the over defoliation I believe I've been doing relative to fan leaves, I have been compromising my buds no matter what they may look like.

So this time we keep the leaves and this time the temp swing between night and day is only around 5-8 degrees. Between that, the (for me) extra undercarriage defoliation and taking of flarfy branches, and the improved space between all the buds, I believe this plant will produce a much better end product.

And I have 100% resisted the stupid, insane urge I always have to want to add stuff to a system. Not with these @Prescription Blend nutes. I couldn't possibly improve on where she is right now no matter what I were to add. Simply not necessary. I can't find a spot on the whole plant that says I need something anywhere. Spectacular nutes. These will undoubtedly lead the way in the upcoming tent grow.

So these first two pictures are the environment above and below the canopy, and yes, the sensor is sitting on dry dirt. See how big the difference is? (Ignore the 'all time' readings, lol)

And here's a picture showing the fan/sensor game I have going on with this plant. There's a third small white fan you can't see in the frame in the lower left.

This is the closest I can get to an overhead of the entire plant and still keep the frame large for the end result.

And these last two pictures attempt to show the lower buds getting plenty of light I was referring to.

One month in we're in pretty good shape. But I SERIOUSLY doubt this plant will harvest in 15 more days as advertised. :thedoubletake::thedoubletake::thedoubletake::thedoubletake::thedoubletake::thedoubletake:

Mystery Plant
Veg Day ?
Strain ?
Soil ?

Well, one thing we do know about this plant at this point: I think it's safe to say she's going to live. That's the first test she had to pass. Lmao.

Here she is today with a shot to show daily windscreen measures and a shot of her nighttime home 15 feet from her daytime home.

Hey Jon,

Beautiful pictures, minus the bugs

Do you use any diatomaceous earth? I've heard good things from using it in IPM, and I'm hoping to buy a few bags soon for preventing (or reducing) any pests this summer.

IPM? I never have used it. I've read those articles too, I think for now I'm going to try the Safers and see how it does. The Apple Blossom shouldn't have any issues. She's practically in the house, in a brand new tent.

DE works well in veg if you mix it with water and spray the stems and undersides of the leaves, but don't spray it on your flowers. It gets into the buds and doesn't wash off, and then your inhaling it when you fire it up.

It works on top of the soil as well but only when it's bone dry, so usefulness is time-limited there.

When the soil is bone dry or the DE is bone dry? Or both?

A few of the Strawberry Lemonade buds were dry, some of the smallest ones, so I trimmed them up. Around nowish, like four days into the dry, I begin to pick off buds as they dry, almost always smaller to larger. Obviously the smaller buds are going to dry faster. Sometimes I just wait on the whole, sometimes I wait on branches, and sometimes I trim as each bud dries. Just depends on a bunch of factors. Anyway, these three little buds were dried, so they got trimmed and go into a paper bag to await their friends. Each day there will be more friends. This helps me spread out the trimming and doesn't seem to affect the dry or cure negatively when I do it.

Here's the three little buds that were dried and a closeup. @BubbaKush909, you were asking me about wet trim vs. dry trim, right? Here's why I like the dry trim better. When I wet trim, the natural tendency is to "shape" the bud. This results in pretty buds, sure, and nicely shaped usually. But it also costs bud, a little, and more importantly to me, it damages the integrity of what the bud actually looks like. When I dry trim it's like a quick hunt and peck vs. a rolling cut sort of thing, if that makes sense. The accuracy, for me, is way improved and easier, and the finished buds are true to themselves, ie, this is what the actual bud looks like with no help shaping from me. It's a small thing that probably has more emotional value to me than anything else. But it's part of the answer to your earlier question.

They coming out nicely. I'm pretty excited to cure these puppies up and try them. The smell is like a Lemonhead candy, only more pungent and sour smelling. WAY sugary/sour lemony. I don't currently get any strawberry smell, we'll see if the cure can bring some of that out too. Pretty frosty. Nice bud structure. Pretty dense buds, even these, the literally three smallest buds of all. Easy-ish plant to dry trim as well as wet trim. Productive. I have nothing but positive things to say about this plant and this strain. Bravo Barney's Farm on this one.

Looks great Jon. And I like that technique of spreading out the trim and drying. Any ideas what your going to do next?
Hey @HappyHazmat88, thanks! Yes, I have some ideas. I posted a list of them the other day but just went looking for it and couldn't find it in the thread. God, I hope I didn't accidentally post that in someone else's thread. Ugh. I fear I did.

Anyway, I'm leaning towards a choice between these:

Dedicated Grow -
Tropicanna Banana (Barney's Farm)
Blueberry Cupcake (Humboldt Seed Company)
Kushberry (DNA Genetics)
Mandarin Zkittlez (Ethos)
Watermelon Weddingcake Double XL Autoflower (Grower's Choice)

Non-dedicated Grow -
Autoflower variety, 9 plants in 3's of various auto strains (420FastBuds, Mephisto, HSC, BF)
Kush grow - Kushberry and OG Kush (both DNA Genetics)

One could have worse choices I believe.

Have to go with non dedicated grow list. Don't know much about others. I always lean on the kush blends better genetics in the plants not mixed so much u don't get a true plant. U get 40 wrapped in one but then again all plants have two or more.

Got some time on my hands. Also have some very well and long cured Strawberry Banana which I haven't touched in months and was among the first plants harvested in this journal, seemingly forever ago. This strain for me is especially good in the "inspiring creativity" department. If it were more up, it would be the ultimate playing weed, but you get tired too quickly playing on it compared to an up sativa. Or at least I do. But it does get one's creative juices flowing. It also happens to taste like God's gift to weed. Somewhere between nectar and ambrosia. So in that spirit, I was working on my photography a little bit. I feel I suck at it, especially when I see people's pictures who truly know what they're doing. It's something I enjoy and want to get into more, and obviously the journal gives one plenty of practice opportunities. I keep entering the PHOTM contest because to me, although they are all very challenging to actually win, it is the most difficult. I have yet to even place, and I think I've entered some decent photos. Just goes to show how incredibly difficult that contest is to win, and how many excellent photographers and photogenic subjects we have here. It's like a playground.

So for my first foray, this evening I give you:

Saturday Shadowplay

And for my second shot tonight, I am going purely in the hope that someone gets a chuckle out of this, it's not a great picture but plenty good enough for you to get the joke - I call this one:

The Ultimate Reveg Challenge!

And there you have my contribution on this Saturday night. Enjoy the weekend!

Lol I love that "gods gift to weed' but nice pics Jon. When you say play you mean an instrument?
Lol, thanks HH. Yes, I play bass. 30 years this year, actually.
