hi @Jon, do you think that if they get cold they can lose some of the effects or THC? One of my Hulkberries is colored and it seems to me that she gives mines than the others. What do you think? Possible?

Okay cool I'm with you. So "up to a point." When do you think is the point of diminishing returns? Six months? Strain specific?Longer maybe for a complete cure. Curing is about evenly drying the bud, but more importantly giving the microbes a chance to work their magic in converting stuff. That's why drying too quickly can ruin a cure by killing off the microbes. Then, even rehydration doesn't help if you've dried too far because of it.
So, a longer cure, up to a point, is a more thorough cure, and therefore more potent than a shorter or more rushed one.
Hi @Kanno26 that is an excellent question. I hadn't even considered that. The short answer is I don't know. But I haven't seen too much of that type effect - for example, my Slurricane was the most colorful of all my plants and lost those colorful leaves long before harvest, and she's among the, if not the, highest THC weed I have right now. I don't know the answer by science and I don't feel I have a large enough body of work to offer you what I would consider anything valid, sorry. But I bet someone out here does.hi @Jon, do you think that if they get cold they can lose some of the effects or THC? Damn, sounds like your two cents is worth a lot more than that. I was with you on the first three. The fourth about Ph is new to me. Where do you come by this info, anywhere I can go to? Very interesting. So you're telling me I can control what colors I produce based on controlling my ph? Even in soil? From what I understand about colored plants:
1. They are going to turn on their own regardless, some before others, even in veg but usually only in very late flower
2. There coloring will.be amplified by colder temperatures, namely 50-55
3. Certain strains and certain seeds of those strains only demonstrate some not all of the coloring properties possible, i.e. some seeds of strains will give the leaf their color or the vagaration of colors within thr leaves while some will give more color to the buds themselves
4. pH plays a role in coloring:
-Purple and Blue strains need a neutral environment
-Yellow, Gold, Orange need heavier alkaline environments
That's my two cents on it...
I read it first on THCFarmer and then started looking it up. Way of Leaf, @Dutch Passion Seeds, High Times, amongst many other articles refer to the catalytic factor of pH levels in cannabis coloration and development. All articles say the same thing so...and yes, even in soil. I've tried it w mineDamn, sounds like your two cents is worth a lot more than that. I was with you on the first three. Yeah, probably a case of diminishing returns though. I'm sure there is a "perfect" amount of time in the perfect environment that is also strain specific, but most of our methods (fridge, burping jars, turkey bags, etc.) are probably close enough. Wouldn't know unless you experimented over multiple tries and the lab tested the result to know for sure.Okay cool I'm with you. So "up to a point." Even if a long cure does increase THC, doesn't THC degrade over time? Where is the balance between well aged and old?Heck, as long as we're ruminating....
Does anyone think that long term cured weed picks up potency with the cure?
Smell and taste and smoothness - yes, obviously.
But potency? Yea or nay?
I'm not sure myself. Sometimes it seems like it does get stronger. Others not at all. But it's so hard to tell without measuring the weed before and after when all you're going by is your senses.
Hey @InTheShed, you might just be someone who has a paper somewhere in storage on this....got anything that sciences out THC and other compound levels before and after a long cure time? (just wishful thinking maybe....)
This will be the first time I've had enough weed banked (since I first began growing!) to keep product for 5 MONTHS in the cure. Lmao.I recently smoked some out of my archives that was over a year old... The bovida 59 was keeping it from drying out and I think I last burped it 3 or 4 months ago. No diminishing returns so far... I think that has a lot to do with moisture content and whether they have been regularly burped. Has anyone here actually kept product for 5 years in the cure?
What volume of weed do you keep max in an individual jar? For me it's two ounces. More than that I start to worry about the buds on the bottom, pack or not.I recently smoked some out of my archives that was over a year old... I have been trying to archive an ounce... but it doesn't always happen. Some of my jars are less than 1/4 ounce. What volume of weed do you keep max in an individual jar? For me it's two ounces. More than that I start to worry about the buds on the bottom, pack or not.
I'm sure it does... its biggest enemy would be moisture. I think I would pack a desiccant pack in with it instead of trying to keep it moist. This will be the first time I've had enough weed banked (since I first began growing!) to keep product for 5 MONTHS in the cure. Lmao.
Here's one for you - you know how I keep my kief by strain and all that? Does kief cure too?
Sometimes I feel after time the non psychoactive parts of the bud shrink leaving all the trichomes and less other material giving the impression of increased potency. ?Heck, as long as we're ruminating....

Potency declines over time as THC degrades to CBN as the buds age. Faster in heat and light, which is why we try to store in cool and dark. But potency? Yea or nay?

Oh most of mine are too in the archive (I call it head stash) jars. I was referring to the jars on the initial jar/cure.I have been trying to archive an ounce... but it doesn't always happen. Some of my jars are less than 1/4 ounce.
Thanks Shed. So the question is then, when does the teeter totter go to the other side? What's the tipping point? I say 6 months.Potency declines over time as THC degrades to CBN as the buds age. Faster in heat and light, which is why we try to store in cool and dark.
Yes!
