Jack Herer & Panama Red In Doc's Hi Brix

I don't think that this has been asked yet, but do I score the bottom portion as well? I usually break it up with my fingers so the roots are hanging down. Thanks for answering these questions and guiding me, this journal is turning out to be a treasure trove of info, I think I will keep this one in my SIG instead of deleting when done.

First of all, very healthy roots. Nicely done. I'd like to see more root hairs, and they'll come in a week or two.

So, if that was me, I'd wait at least another week before transplanting. Those roots aren't well developed enough to sprint when transplanted, and as I said, you'll be better off giving them another week or two in the small containers with roots at that stage.

This one is nearly a day late:

Wow, that's some nice roots, I'm getting concerned about height during stretch, I'll try to wait another week. As is I need to water every 2 days, I'll do a dunk tomorrow with transplant drench

Great question!

Do not score the bottom. When you cut the roots, think of it as encouraging the roots to grow away from the cut. They don't have very far to go downwards compared to laterally, so you only want to score the sides.

Also, the lowermost portion of the pot is where the moisture lies, and where the water roots are living. If you score the bottom, you'll damage the water roots, which will decrease that plant's ability to sprint.

So, don't score the bottom, just the sides. Here's a video at the bottom of the page: Planting and Transplanting — DocBud's High Brix Shop

I upcaned my clones and put in flower room, these will be my normal nutes, no brix for these because I don't have enough soil, I did however upcan my blue dream clone and my jack herer. I will wait 1 more week to transplant my other hi brix plants. So now I'm dialing in my flower tent. Humidity sucks at 30% I also installed my high temp shutdown controller for my light to avoid any fires if my exhaust fan stops working.

Checked plants in flower room this morning and they're looking very upset with me. Not sure if I can spray destress on non brix. Its probably a combination of transplant shock and changing from a 300w LED to a 1000 HPS, they'll either sink or swim at this point

Are we talking about High Brix plants or chem plants here?

If chem plants, please let me know what's in 'em and I'll try to help. If high brix....I thought you were waiting for a week?

Whats up?

They're Chem plants, 2 are brix, I still have 6 brix panama red in veg tent that are going to veg another 2 weeks before upcanning and they're still in 1gal, no worries doc, I'm still doing what you suggested and waiting longer before upcanning the panama red are the ones I'm doing in brix, I needed room in veg tent to take clones and start seeds. The nutrients I'm using for the non brix is hydroponic research veg&bloom powder

Are the High Brix plants suffering too? If so, I'd look to the environment. If not.....big time flush followed by a light feeding on the chems. I'm not really very good with chem stuff anymore, but salt buildup is always a problem.

The ones in veg are looking fantastic, the flowering ones I have low humidity, temps are ranging from 76-80, I think the light was too close and the ones I'm going to flower now are just testers to see how it goes in flower tent since its a new setup. In another week or 2 I will add a couple others and then more a couple weeks after that, I'm trying for a perpetual harvest every 2 weeks

I tried setting myself up for a perpetual 2 week harvest when I first went perpetual :laughtwo: it never worked out that way. I had too many strains to make it work out. I think the only real way to make it work is to monocrop with identical clones or have two strains whose flower time match up and alternate between the two. I almost never have two of the same strain flowering at once and I find I will hit a point where I harvest 3 or 4 plants over a week or two and then dont harvest for a month or so and then the same thing happens.

Yeah, I kinda figured I'd run into similar issues plus I think I need more room for something like that. I really wish we weren't planning on selling our place. Otherwise I'd install a split unit and knock some walls down for more room and be done worrying about enviorment. I just ordered an evaporative humidifier for a whole house, that should fix my humidity issues in my flower room. In order to do perpetual I would need to constantly have clones and vegged plants on hand which is difficult unless I have lots of cooked soil on hand. I have a lot of respect for people like doc who are able to accomplish perpetual and dial their enviorment in. I'm learning that its a lot more difficult than I thought, at least for winters, summers are a bit easier for me

Ive been running perpetual for quite a while and still have to tweak my environmentals. Im running in two tents and then make shift veg areas. I really should build some dedicated areas and work on getting my environment perfect. One of these days I will do just that. For now what I do works for me.

I'll say this, I'm happy to hear I'm not the only one who struggles with enviorment. Its good to know that you have good results still. I may be asking you for advise for perpetual. I'm glad you shared that bit of info

Doc one question, I'm looking to get a sentinel controller and it wasn't very clear on if you can connect both humidifier and dehumidifier and it will controller each as needed. I'd love to hear more about your setup with this controller, actually I really need to take a trip up there and talk shop..

My controller only hooks up one, or the other. You can set it to increase or decrease humidity, but not both at the same time. Solutions to this are a second controller, or a really good de-huey that you can set and forget.

Can anyone chime in if it can cause issues if my day and night temps remain the same during flowering? Through my research, Some say no problem and some say its not good, I'm just looking at different options until I get a good controller

That's wild you're getting the same temps lights out as lights on--for me, the lights do all heat-generating, so when they go off, I need to supplement with a small room heater. That tends to drop my RH too far at night, so I have a humidifier and the heater rigged so that goes on when lights go off, they're turned on.

We all have to tweak our areas in our own ways to get that magic 68/80-82* F, and 50-60 RH environment day and night.

My temp controller for flower room doesn't have night setting, what I'm going to do is set thermostat on heater a bit lower for night temps and my exhaust fan turns on and off to control the cooling through the light, it would be so much easier to dial in if my flower room wasn't so far from my house. The comical part is that by the time I'm dialed in for winter it will be summer..
