InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

...be nice to see you find some success in a Candida reversal...I had 3 seeds in my seed collection, that have somehow disappeared after a recent inventory...she was a keeper and a producer for me...Good Luck, should that happen...cheerz... :high-five: ...h00k...:hookah:...

Thanks h00k! Last time I tried the Candida the pollen didn't work on any other plant, but it did manage to self-seed. Unfortunately the plant rotted from the roots so all I got was immature seeds. Next time I run the Candida I'll have a much better idea of what I'm doing (I hope!). :thumb:

I'll be be going down the STS trail with a couple Ace strains this year, in a side project apart from "my " Shed grow...my ingredients are 2 years old, but unopened, so, not sure how things will work out, but excited to start the next evolution of the hobby grower...cheerz... :high-five: ...h00k...:hookah:...

Stick with the 50/50 solution I used. Much better than the 10% they recommend in all the tutorials!

Morning Shed, these flowers look nicely impregnated. Have you got the plant on a mat to collect falling seeds when that starts to happen?

Pollens can be weird. I had a Red Sky that we adore and wanted to cross with everything in the next run. Come to find out very few seeds were produced while many seeds were set from pollen taken from other plants from the same run.

Thanks Carmen! The STS-sprayed one lives in the tent full-time so if it starts dropping seeds they'll be in there. The other two go back and forth from the shed to the backyard, so I guess I'll have to figure something out as those seeds get more and more ripe. :hmmmm:

I know right? The STS Candida self-pollinated but shaking it over the other two didn't do a thing, and neither did the pollen I collected in the drying box.

I think I will test-pollinate two flowers on the Jack Herer this weekend, one with the first batch I collected and one with the cleaner stuff. I promise to label them well!

Shed, this is from the files, as in the You Know You're A Grower When......

You actually have different GRADES of self-made pollen!!!!!!!

LOL! I see a lot of folks grade and separate their flowers at harvest, which I never do. :)
Random Pollen Question:
Do any of you pollen heads have a sense for how long the pollen stays viable for? And do you store it in the fridge for long term keeping?
I definitely don't qualify as a pollen head, but I have read it will keep in the freezer for at least a year. I'm sure folks have gotten success storing it other ways (in a sock drawer, high shelf, fridge) to varying degrees of success.

Your new pollen looked nice! Hehe labels are important!:hookah:

Hey gang! I'll be on the road much of today and tomorrow getting my son home from college for the summer, so I won't be here much. Have a great start to the weekend!

Thanks Otter, and they sure are. :)
Have a blast bonding with your boy, Shed, and sending him good vibes on the college selection/stuff. I loved that process. Excellent parenting by you, if you don't mind me saying so. I know many a person whose parents never took them anywhere to see schools before they applied.

Have a safe trip and an awesome reunion.
Thank you Carmen! It's nice to have him back. :)

Thanks Jon! He just finished his sophomore year (but his first year actually on campus). We toured a few schools with him in February of 2020 just a few weeks before we all locked down for Covid. It was fortuitous timing!
That's a great event! This is way better than the other way one! Have fun! Wait, do you have to cede any grow space ?
LOL thanks Otter! I did have to move the tent out of his room, so now it's crammed into the office again. I'd say it's the only downside to having him home.
Save Trip See you soon
Thank you sb! Tons of driving but home safe and sound.

Monday update time on a Monday!

First off, I did some test-pollinating of the Jack Herer 1.1 yesterday with the two batches of Sour G pollen. First I covered the two buds I was going to try:

Then I misted the rest of the plant to make sure the pollen didn't work anywhere else. I pollinated one area with the dirty batch and one area with the clean batch. About 3 hours later I misted the whole plant again and I hope that was enough time to have it take.

Then, per Otter's reminder about the importance of labels, I labeled the two branches. Dirty:

And Clean:

We'll see! Moving on, I took a few lowers off the Candida before I flipped it last night and put them in ProMix HP. Dome on:

Dome off:

I de-dome for a minute in the mornings for the first few days just to get some fresh air in there.

Here is the Candida on flip day 1:

Measured for @BeezLuiz's spreadsheet:

We're calling this 27.5" tall.

Finally, I floated the Candida cuttings in perlite that were cut May 2nd and two had tiny roots, so I buried them in ProMix HP:

Whichever of these various cuttings is the strongest will become the new mother.

That's it for me! I hope you all had a great weekend and your days aren't gray like mine in May. :ciao:
