A Happy Veteran's day to all who have served our country, whether still with us or passed on (my dad for example
). Thank you so much for your commitment to the protecting the constitution of the US of A.
Been a while since I've updated you on the attempt to germinate the 30 year old seeds that
@smokesbetter gave me. I was going to walk you through the entire GA3 process from mixing to soaking to the results, but since the I didn't get a single one to split it seems like a waste of time to draw this out with that.
So instead, here are the seeds after 24+ hours of soaking in 125, 250, and 500ppm of GA3:
Not a split, not a tail.
In the event of failure, sb asked that I cut one open to see what they looked like inside, so I cut one of each batch open as well as the one I saved out. Here they are (details in the file names):
It looks to me that the seeds absorbed the water, but there was nothing in there to sprout (can you tell I'm not a botanist?).
Anyway, I saved the ones I didn't cut in case sb wants me to get them back to him, but otherwise this is the end of the sprouting-of-old-seeds experiment. It may have worked with the banana or GA3 if these had been stored in ideal conditions, but I don't think they were. Sorry to disappoint...I gave it my best shot.
For those interested in what protocol I used for the GA3, I kind of followed
this video (sign-in required), except I dissolved the GA3 in 91% iso first rather than straight into water, and I used different ppms and amounts of distilled water for the dilutions (I mixed much smaller batches).
And finally, here is a last pic of the Candida seed germination tests that sprouted back on June 11th and were immediately attacked by thrips:
They've lived outside since and were doing fine with water and GeoFlora Bloom every two weeks (after I killed the caterpillar), but I decided to let them go long past harvest to see what would happen. They died because they're annuals.
That's it from me today. I'm thinking of dropping a couple of
@Justin Goody's autos to keep in the tent this winter so I have something to do, so I'll let you know when that happens. Thanks for following along, and I need to go catch up on a lot of missed posts...

Thanks sb! As long as my eyes don't go yellow I might be okay with this one. Only been a week so we'll see.
Done, and thanks so much for trust and opportunity to give them a shot.
Luckily no. It's far enough north and the wind isn't carrying it down here.
Thank you Captain, to you and yours as well.
