InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

the carbon capture doesn't work for crap. my pops engineering firm keeps getting dragged back in to try fix it. they told the gov't 15yrs ago it wouldn't work the way it was envisioned.
May I ask what they keep getting drug in to fix? Is it the same carbon capture facility? I'm in southeast Saskatchewan. There has been a lot of praise about this facility, I'd just like to be educated about the situation if it applies to the one here.
the geo-plant does show promise though
I hope it does give a good promise. It would give a lot of the oilfield workers in the area a solid job. Not saying it will help me any though unless they need drivers or operators of some sort.
most expensive a clutch gets is $1200 all in.
That's a decent price for a clutch. Hell, my custom atv clutch cost 1300 Canadian to be machined and clutched properly to turn 32" mud tires lol

it's the same one. the premise behind it is more theory than practice. the industry is in it's infant stage, so nothing is efficient as it should be at the plant.

it's kinda like driving a model t and trying to sell it as a tesla. they both get you were you are going, but one is clearly more efficient and better at it. the tech needs to improve a while yet to get to where the proponents are dreaming.

the largest issue is it's an attempt to clean up a bad energy tech instead of moving to a better one outright.

sask is insanely well positioned for geo, wind, and solar. pretty much the best in the world given the combination. that's not the direction of the politics however. old economies are at the root of the system in sask.

even the legal cannabis roll out has been fits and starts here. lots of accusations of leaning to corporate and inside ball. it's still better than a few other provinces though.

edit : should add my pops is retired and doesn't have to deal with it anymore lol .. :)

Thanks for that bit of info bluster. Of course everything you hear on the radio about the carbon capture facility just praises it and shows "what a good job" they've been doing. When in reality it's not quite as it seems. It's nice they are trying to move on to other options of energy, but to completely phase out coal seems like a tricky ride. Unless of course this geothermal project really hits it off.

There is lots of solar here in my area on farms. As for wind turbines, not in this area. Back home in Nova Scotia though, they had been putting up wind turbines everywhere, worked them for a few years and then realized the cost of putting them up and keeping them maintained was greater than the output being made by them. It's a dog eat dog world out there and every energy company is trying to find a way to fit in. We are just along for the ride it seems.

Let's not get started on the legalization of cannabis and the roll out, it was botched from the beginning. I try to stay away from the government stores when I can.

it's not a bad idea. it just needs work. it's impossible to scrub coal to a point it can be considered "clean". the more carbon you manage to sequester, the higher the sulphur tailings become. you get left with a toxic load of one thing or the other.

most farmers i know are very pro-active. nothing to do with politics, it's about management and what is cost effective.

the area around swift current is one of the best in the world for sustained wind production.

alberta arguably had the best roll out. we were probably second or third.

That's where I seen all the wind turbines before. I knew I seen some here in sask but couldn't remember where. I went to swift current to pick up a trailer once and seen them all. There's lots of wind here for it. Prince Edward Island also has a pretty big wind farm for the size of the province.

That's good to hear. I do use the stores when I need to, but otherwise it's too expensive for something good and that wasn't packaged months ago, bone dry.

Happy Monday everyone! Sun is coming out a little earlier lately, so less May-Grey and more May-be the plants can get some serious lux. :) Busy weekend as I mentioned with the plants, documentary, and the taxes, so here is the pic-filled weekend update.

Starting with the transplant of the Chiquita Banana from WSE on day 25:

I fed it the equivalent of 3g of MC and it seems happy today. Pics of the Summer grow tomorrow, but back to yesterday when it was time to mix the Silver Thiosulfate.

Chris suggested using half the amounts recommended since you end up with a lot either way, so that's what I did. Here is the recipe I followed:
Part A: 250ml distilled water / .25g Silver Nitrate
Part B: 250ml distilled water / 1.25g Sodium Thiosulfate

Take 25ml of Part B and mix in 25ml of Part A. Add 450 ml distilled water to get 500ml of STS mix. That's what gets sprayed on the plant every 4 days until you see the pollen sacs are pretty well set.

It will kill the plant if it gets on the roots, hence the paper plate (which I covered in packing tape to make it waterproof):

Sunday was spray day 1 and Thursday comes next. I'll spray it in the shade and move it into the sun once it dries.

What else? How about thinning? Here are before and after pics of the plants that got thinned. Sorry I didn't have a chance to shoot them against a white background to make it easy to see what's gone, but I was running out of daylight.

Seed Candida:

Mother Candida:

Red Dragon:

Tin Can Kush:

All the cuttings on the heat mat:

There are two in each cup, so four total from each plant. New Dip'n Grow and 50/50 soil/perlite. We'll see!

Last for the day are the noise-makers just above the door to the shed. Not sure if you remember a couple of years ago I had a pair of Black Phoebes that built a nest, but abandoned it before the babies were born. Well they (or another pair) are back, and there are at least three little ones in the nest crying for food all the time:

The parents are very skittish so I try to stay away from that corner of the backyard as much as I can, but since the Spring two are in the shed at night they do have to put up with some humans.

I hope your weekend was packed with carbon capture/clutch-filled dreams, and that the week ahead brings a sense of peace and relaxation!
:meditate:

On to the quotes:
They don't seem to mind. Beautiful plants. Have a great weekend!
Thank you MrS! It would have been better if I had a chance to nap, but on the plus side, everything that I needed to accomplish got accomplished. Phewf!
Boy am I glad to hear it’s not just me! They are looking beautiful and ready to go!
Veg-timing issues abound. :high-five: Thanks double H!
Me and mom got our second shot yesterday. After work today was just exhausted came home and passed out for 4 hours. So yeah be prepared for fatigue roughly 15 hours after you get the second dose. Veg girls look great. Looking forward to see how the Red Dragon flowers out. Looking up the genetics on your Tin Can kush because I'm nosy like that.
Thanks Kis and congrats on shots #2 to you and mom! The TCK genetics (bred by Grandpa and named by Otter) are Golden Goat x Tahoe OG Kush.
tent is looking good shed.
Thanks bluter!
should add my pops is retired and doesn't have to deal with it anymore
He does have to deal with your flower room, and sometimes that's also a challenge. :cheesygrinsmiley:
Marking my place as to not keep reading the same thing
Excellent idea!

I'm glad you got everything accomplished you wanted to this weekend. I missed you. It seemed very quiet here without you.

The Black Phoebe kinda looks like a Flycatcher. I'll have to see if they're related.

Damn, I'm tired out just reading about all the stuff you got done on the weekend....
Your Spring ladies look great, and even better with their fresh haircuts.. :)
Good idea on the root protector!

Aww...thanks HG! Looking forward to any ornithological info you can find... :nerd-with-glasses:

Thanks Carcass...I'm still tired out from doing it all! I'm already looking forward to going to sleep tonight. :)

I feel like I used that paper plate soil cover for something before but I can't remember what now. Maybe I just recommended it to someone for something... :hmmmm:

Tuesday update of the Summer Grow, which is a mixed bag at this point as you will see.

Let's start with the group shot so you can see what I mean:

And the SaugaView®:

OMG look how droopy and sad the Jack Herer is. Here it is nine days ago just after transplant:

And today:

It doesn't look happy to have been moved, that's for sure. I'm sure it will come around eventually, but it's not the leggy beauty it once was.

Moving on to some happier plants, here is the (blurry) Chiquita Banana:

Showing a bit of calcium deficiency:

They are all moving up in feed with every watering, so that should not progress any further.

And finally, here is the Sour G on GeoFlora only:

It's the healthiest of the bunch!

That's what I've got today on the Summer front. The Spring two got watered this morning...1.5 gallons into the Tin Can Kush living on GeoFlora Veg, and 2 gallons of 4.5g/gallon MC equivalent for the Red Dragon. They both took to the thinning like champs.

I hope your week is off to a smooth start, and that nothing in your lives is too droopy.

Things will start heating up now and i know your glad to get started after a long wait for STS and i really hope this works for you , Garden is looking Good and all look happy .
Thanks sb! I hope I got all the mixing right and that I'm not just spraying the plant with water. :cheesygrinsmiley:
Good luck with the sts Shed... we’re counting on you!
In the meantime, I'm counting on your excellent cloning abilities. :high-five:
All looking swell over here. Hope the STS works out for you. The fuel price conversation made me chuckle. I'm paying $7.5 per gallon for cheap diesel over here. Roughly. It's £1.39 per litre
Thanks for stopping by Vet! Petrol has always been really expensive in the UK, something I noticed on my first trip there to meet my future inlaws back in '92.
:thanks: for 'splainin the STS. I bookmarked it for future reference.
Just need to get my STS now.
Need to light a fire under Buttercup's ass.
I was worried about getting all the numbers right, but once I sat down and did it in order, it made perfect sense! I'm sure your care package will arrive soon!
