InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

Thanks!

It's only getting 25% strength nutes now but I am going to be at 50% next water (tomorrow probably). I'm guessing the lower leaves might be dying because of the lack of a tap root. It's probably still making up for that loss.

hey shed I got a question about watering plants outdoor... how often do you water them?

You're gonna hate this answer: when they're drying out.

If the plant feels lighter that means it's drying out. Also, if there are holes at the bottom of the pot you can feel the soil, if it's in a fabric pot you can feel if the bottom is damp. It's never on a schedule as so much depends on the weather. And something else that determines when to water is what stage of growth they're in. Are they doing a lot of root development or mostly focused on bud-making, etc. When I'm trying to grow roots I will let it get dryer than when it's in full flower mode.

Hey Pterostychus, I think I remember reading somewhere that you are a bit of a bug guru. If that is correct, do you have any idea what kind of bug was hanging on the underside of one of my leaves?

Sorry for the quick question Shed, hope you don't mind real quick. Thanks buddy.

the flying adults dont have mouthparts and they reproduce in rivers and canals ... they can become a pest in the sence that they can hatch all at the same time and form vast clouds of these insects ... but generally their lifespan as an adult is only a few days .. they may make excellent fishing bait hehe ;)

Flytiers would love that thanks man

it may be a wrong determination but i am 100% its a Ephemeroptera (Mayflies)

Ok thank you.....will read up more on them today. I appreciate you taking the time out to answer that. First time I have seen one of those in my garden. Wonder if it popped out of the bag of Coco-Loco or EWC that I have in the room. Seems odd to have a Mayfly showing up in New England in the middle of winter. Any who....thanks for the scoop!!!

No problem VS! This place is an open forum for great (and stupid) questions all! And Pt has been spot on with the bug IDs

Thanks Pt, it's really cool to have a resident bug man :).
:thanks:

It's Thursday and I didn't have time for pics this morning because not only did I need to dress nice AGAIN, I also had to be at work an hour early. Jeez!

So today is just a nute-mix update. Gold Leaf was thirsty and Sour G gets water every other day, so I mixed up a new gallon with:

¼ tsp Armor Si silica 0-0-4, which raised the water pH from 7.0 to 8.0!
3 ml cal/mag+
2 tsp Grow Big
3 tbs Big Bloom

PPM with the silica but without the Big Bloom was 780. pH (after 3/4 tsp pH Down) was 6.7. Didn't test runoff.

Sour G got a 50% dilution of that.

My pomegranate trees are pushing out new leaves already so even if you got 4" of snow yesterday (Guy), spring is on its way. I hope you're feeling sunny :).

Thanks Shed, I am usually pretty good with bugs, but that one seemed out of place to me in its current location. Still not sure what to think about it being there..well its not there anymore, flew away LOL.
