InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

Smell isn't a problem in my house, nor would leaving the tent open if it actually gets too warm.

Why do you need a tent? Couldn’t you just move the Oval to your daughter’s room, and close the door?
:passitleft:

Hard to do because of the light frame and the hangers and all. Right now I have it at 300 watts with the driver on the floor with a fan on it (at Derby's suggestion, to generate heat). If I drop the frame into the oval (to be able to sort out some type of cover, then I have to turn it down because they're so close and they don't put out any heat at all that low.

Catch-22.

Well put folks. I like what you are doing. Reading this current topic of airflow and temps got me do do the same thing. Tinker with the fans lights and heat. Thank you for the inspiration

If you want a bit juicier article on the subject check the article I put up here, the Vapor Pressure Deficit link is in my signature.

Hey Shed. This dilemma seems to have kinda come full circle:). I still think the heater is the best option. Then in the Spring you can insulate the shed. These lights youre running arent quite on my radar but I understand the basics. I fear if I read any more about them Ill be reaching for my wallet:D

And let's see how @Derbybud's advice turned out...

Here is the driver on the floor in the Oval of Brightness ®. The fan is pointing directly down at it, blowing the air around the near end of the oval:

Let's go to the opposite side and get a reading:

♫ Do you see what I see? ♪

At 300 watts, the ambient temperature (which I reset just before I turned on the lights) has gone from 59º to 68º! :yahoo:
:thanks: Derby! Brilliant suggestion, outside the box thinking for inside the oval.

I'll check it in an hour and see if it keeps going up. I may need to turn the driver DOWN!

I'm hoping that the cold snap we just had is over. High 40s at night is better than low 40s.

Anyway, the driver does go to 382 watts ;).
Where Im at elevation is a little higher so we get into the 30's and lower at times. Got snow here a couple years ago. Not much but enough to stick for a half a day or so.

So power= heat. Yeah. And at 300 watts of the useable 382 is running that driver and diodes right at the sweet spot of 75-80% but don't be worried too push it. Just outside of this area is where it's efficiency will start to fall off.
Sorry I stopped a new build or buy at the shed, Shed.
So that light only pulls ~4 amps? How much headroom on that circuit do you have Shed? Have you considered one of those floor heating mats? I don’t know why anyone in SoCal would ever need one besides keeping your plant roots warm lol.

Thanks again Derby! Stopping new builds or buys is always always appreciated :).

I'm at 25" on the near end and running 27,500 lux/400 PPFD (over Sour G) and around 20" on the far end and running 33,000 lux/460 PPFD over the flowering Blue Treacle 2. Sour G has been looking a bit pale lately which is why I'm running the light further away there. Next week I'll drop it down a couple of inches and see how they respond.

[note: all lux to PPFD calculations are based on a 3000K color temperature.]
Looks like u got it figured out. Awesome! :)
Sure seems like it Crazy. Derby came through again!

At 300 watts the light pulls 2.52 amps and I didn't even have to turn off the hot tub heater! This morning the temperature at the soil line was 64º and 68º at the canopy.

I considered one of those floor mats, but since they would just heat the very bottom of the pot (and not the air) I thought I would need to run them pretty hot to get all the soil warm. I was afraid of burning the bottoms.
Jumped ahead! Lol
Plants look good, been crazy in here this week, lots of action :)
Any time you stop by is good with me!

Very cool that worked out Shed... or should I say - very warm
Thanks double H! Running the lights as god intended has double benefits: more light and more heat! And when the weather warms up I'll just move the driver back up to the rafters.

Friday (short week!) update, and this is going to be a bit of a hodge podge. Not too long so stay with me.

First, I want to talk about supercropping. A lot of people think of it as a way to level the canopy and make sure all the buds are the same distance from the light, allowing you to run it as close to the canopy as possible without burning any leaders. But there is another great reason, and one I thought I would show here.

I had the AK-47 sitting next to me in the office last night so it didn't have to be in the 45º bike shed, and I thought it looked pretty flat on top...my goal.

But the branch sitting next to me was asking to be folded:

And from one budsite, many:

Obvious to some, helpful to others!

Moving on, look what finally got delivered from November's MOTM prize package (they were running a bit late)...a box-full of 420magswag! Yes, they are still getting rid of CropKing stuff :):

And since they had run out of large t-shirts, I got a medium, modeled here by my darling daughter who will be taking it back to college on Sunday:

Spread the knowledge!

Last for today is the Peyote Critical quadline on day 88. I haven't done any thinning of the growth yet, but it's due:

Since I've read it doesn't stretch all that much, I'll let it get a little taller before I flip it. I'll be flipping the AK, Sour G, and PC all together for a massive clear-out before spring. That will leave me the Candidas, the AK clone, and a small Sour G still vegging, and I can plan what to plant for the summer/fall.

I hope your first week of 2019 was a positive preview of the weeks to come! Incoming weekend...:surf:
