InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

Thanks again Derby! Stopping new builds or buys is always always appreciated :).

I'm at 25" on the near end and running 27,500 lux/400 PPFD (over Sour G) and around 20" on the far end and running 33,000 lux/460 PPFD over the flowering Blue Treacle 2. Sour G has been looking a bit pale lately which is why I'm running the light further away there. Next week I'll drop it down a couple of inches and see how they respond.

[note: all lux to PPFD calculations are based on a 3000K color temperature.]

Sure seems like it Crazy. Derby came through again!

At 300 watts the light pulls 2.52 amps and I didn't even have to turn off the hot tub heater! This morning the temperature at the soil line was 64º and 68º at the canopy.

I considered one of those floor mats, but since they would just heat the very bottom of the pot (and not the air) I thought I would need to run them pretty hot to get all the soil warm. I was afraid of burning the bottoms.

Any time you stop by is good with me!

Thanks double H! Running the lights as god intended has double benefits: more light and more heat! And when the weather warms up I'll just move the driver back up to the rafters.

Friday (short week!) update, and this is going to be a bit of a hodge podge. Not too long so stay with me.

First, I want to talk about supercropping. A lot of people think of it as a way to level the canopy and make sure all the buds are the same distance from the light, allowing you to run it as close to the canopy as possible without burning any leaders. But there is another great reason, and one I thought I would show here.

I had the AK-47 sitting next to me in the office last night so it didn't have to be in the 45º bike shed, and I thought it looked pretty flat on top...my goal.

But the branch sitting next to me was asking to be folded:

And from one budsite, many:

Obvious to some, helpful to others!

Moving on, look what finally got delivered from November's MOTM prize package (they were running a bit late)...a box-full of 420magswag! Yes, they are still getting rid of CropKing stuff :):

And since they had run out of large t-shirts, I got a medium, modeled here by my darling daughter who will be taking it back to college on Sunday:

Spread the knowledge!

Last for today is the Peyote Critical quadline on day 88. I haven't done any thinning of the growth yet, but it's due:

Since I've read it doesn't stretch all that much, I'll let it get a little taller before I flip it. I'll be flipping the AK, Sour G, and PC all together for a massive clear-out before spring. That will leave me the Candidas, the AK clone, and a small Sour G still vegging, and I can plan what to plant for the summer/fall.

I hope your first week of 2019 was a positive preview of the weeks to come! Incoming weekend...:surf:

Great info Shed! That peyote is really getting big! Another great plant!:goodjob:

And let's see how @Derbybud's advice turned out...

Here is the driver on the floor in the Oval of Brightness ®. The fan is pointing directly down at it, blowing the air around the near end of the oval:

Let's go to the opposite side and get a reading:

♫ Do you see what I see? ♪

At 300 watts, the ambient temperature (which I reset just before I turned on the lights) has gone from 59º to 68º! :yahoo:
:thanks: Derby! Brilliant suggestion, outside the box thinking for inside the oval.

I'll check it in an hour and see if it keeps going up. I may need to turn the driver DOWN!

Now I know what u mean ;) Yeah, these MeanWell drivers can get quite hot! Is it a HLG-320h-??? ?

Saturday update all! Grey and cold today and there should be rain this afternoon into tomorrow morning, so everything is living in the shed today (except the AK which sits next to me in the house).

I did take everything out to see what's occurin' and take some pics. Soil level was 63.7ºF and the canopy was 70º. I've added a fan outside the oval pointing up to try to distribute the heat more evenly.

Should we start with the problem child or something more fun? That depends on whether you will read to the end! Promise? Okay, Blue Treacle Auto on day 93 :).

I had every intention of taking it down this weekend, but there is not a single amber trichome on the calyxes (a few on the sugars), so it lives another week. The new light it seems to have given it a second wind, with white pistils everywhere. But I won't be fooled by the pistils (or the foxtails)...the trichomes tell the tale. Here it is:

It has definitely slowed down the drinking so it knows the chop is soon!

Next up are the Candidas. I'm sure my FIM is a miss and I'm ready to top it. Tell me I'm wrong!

This is the topped one and I'll be topping the new growth soon:

Now on to the problem child...Sour G. You're still reading this, right? It doesn't seem to be happy under the lights like the rest of the plants. I've upped the cal-mag and given it a couple of foliar sprays with cal-mag and silica (that's why the leaves are wet in the pics. I have the light further away from this than the rest as well. It's growing but not pretty:

Any ideas?

That's my update for the day. Thanks for reading all the way to the bottom and thanks to @Norcaliwood for looking at the pics ;). Time to go turn the heat on in here...the plants are warmer than I am! :peace:

The blue treacle auto might like a bit of cold to push her into finishing up. Dont look like the FIM made any new tops, just made the rest catch up. Maybe the sour g is shocked a bit, maybe a little bit of kelp or seaweed?

Is there something in kelp or seaweed that would help? The kelp they have at home depot is 2-2-2 but I'm not sure what it brings to the table that the cal-mag, pro-tekt, and Grow Big miss.

Yeah I'm going to top that FIM tomorrow...
Kelp and seaweed help neutralize the stress, but not alleviate the cause. If it’s stress from the light, it will help while the plant is adjusting.

“Kelp contains trace amounts of hundreds of micronutrients and minerals, as well as unique, not-well-understood properties that seem to sooth stress for many types of plants including cannabis.” -nebula haze

She looks a little hungry to me. What do you think guys? More light needs more food.

That’s what I’m thinking too.

I can’t see exactly what’s happening in the top of the FIM in either of the photos, but there is a lot of branching and lower growth going on. If done correctly, there should be 4 growth tips coming out of the top.
:passitleft:

I'd say I'm feeding all the veg plants around 550 TDS of nutes. But if I add kelp and epsom salts along with the regular cal-mag, pro-tekt, and Grow Big it should be easy to get that number up across the board. 800 sound reasonable?

You see what I see on the FIM Felipe. No idea but it still looks like alternating nodes to me. I'll tip-spread tomorrow and see if I can tell otherwise.

I think what Derby and I are seeing is a need for more nitrogen, which won’t be addressed by ES, and most CalMag only has 1% or so.

Why aren’t ya using the Nutrient Calculator that I sent you?
:ganjamon:

Yes please, let’s see what’s in the leaves.

:yummy:

Because I keep forgetting is the honest answer! And when I do think of it at work (which is where I saved it) I end up with 7 updated journals to check on, plus whatever work I need to do. What I should do is re-save it at home and tackle it when there is nothing happening. That's what I'll do.

The nitrogen comes from the 6ml cal-mag (2-0-0) and the 5ml Grow Big (6-4-4).

I'll tag you on the new FIM pics tomorrow.

I agree with Penny looks more magnesium deficient. But I think it's locked out for some reason. I forget is this soil? If coco, flush her out. Soil, maybe the same! Followed by small feeding with epsom salt.

It's soil but I'm not sure why it would be locked out all of a sudden. It started shortly after I built the new light and I haven't changed much about the nutes except to go from 3ml cal-mag to 5 and then 6ml. Not a huge jump considering 3-5 is the manufacturer's range, and the ratio of calcium to magnesium obviously stay the same.

What I can do is run two gallons of tap water through it tomorrow and see what the runoff looks like in terms of TDS and pH. If they're out of whack, I can flush. Then either way I can follow up with two gallons of balanced nutes at a higher TDS than my last feeds with epsom salt as a mag boost.

BT2 is turning out some chunky colas and beautiful colours. I think sour g is hungry as stated. She’s a pretty big girl and could be a nutrient pig! I would go with upping your N and calmag then seeing how it turns out! But I’ll sit back on the sidelines here and learn lol
