InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

I haven't tried with lavender yet but I might this spring. I have regular and ghost lavender (planted a few months ago so no flowers yet) in the garden so I'll do both! And I think the key for me to get it to work is keeping it on the heat mat. Nothing happened when the perlite was room temps, which in my house are in the low to mid-60s most of the year.
Wow that Ghost Lavender is something to look forward to. So pretty. Thought I'd come and hang out a bit and run away from the world. Lots of sharin' and carin' goin' on in this neck of the woods. I'll be interested to know how long it takes you to get that lavender going. Mine rooted in a few weeks in Spring temps but it has taken the entire summer for them to grow beyond cutting stage and fatten / branch out. One has been close to death the entire time but is fractionally growing in height and hanging onto some green.

P.S. There is something truly marvelous about a revegging plant imo.... love em for that!

Thank you Carmen! The lavender I started in the cloninator way back in summer of 2018 did okay in a 1 gallon clay pot in the backyard for two years, and blew up when my wife transplanted it into a tall concrete pot about 15 gallons or so (I'll get a pic tomorrow). They seem to be really slow starters, but then boom!
Nice update shed , That mother needed something she was looking pretty weird Just got a couple Vivosun Heat mats and one controller , for some reason i thought it was coming with two T-stats . That's what i get for thinking I guess ! Oh and that Banana Bud looks TASTY !
Thanks sb! A thermostat is such a necessity with heat mats that I think they should be sold together. Otherwise they just blast the heat to 20º over ambient.
I love the work ethic here. The schlepping not so much but it does make for some beautiful plants.
Now I’m ready for you to graft the Chiquita banana to that lemon tree.
LOL thanks Nev. :)
Great idea! Ten bucks says Shed makes is happen.
I don't think I'm going to give the inter-species grafting a try, if only because @NaturalSpirit tried that with a willow-to-cannabis graft (even bought a cool graft-making tool) in controlled conditions, but it never managed to take. You can read all about that adventure here:

That's a thing? Inter-species grafting? That's crazy, I didn't even know it was possible.

Nice update Shed!

Let's lead off by saying goodbye to the 1 gallon revegging Sour G that I topped and root pruned a couple of weeks ago. I did want to show you that it suffered no damage and was putting out all new green growth:
That is quite amazing seeing it re-veg, something I have never tried (but post harvest whole plant drying doesn't help). I wonder how it would go if left to re-veg for the following Spring/Summer, after all it would already have the roots to build upon if they stayed healthy.

Thanks Stunger! That was a reveg that I moved back to 24/0 after about 3 weeks of flower when I didn't get pollen from the STS sprayed plant, and it still didn't look like a normal plant after almost 3 months of reveg. That said, if you had a spot to keep one at 24/0 while you waited for the next growing season you could leave a lot of veg on it and give it a shot!

Of course, it would probably take up the entire balcony on its own next summer!

And for anyone looking for indoor revegging instructions, @Van Stank wrote them up here.

Just a reminder that Monday is the last day to vote in the OTM contests, so get in there and make a difference in someone's life! Even if they don't end up winning, I can tell you it will mean something to them to know that they were your preference.

oh shit. i really gotta start doing this.

what's otm ? there's a bunch of tm's i need to start paying attention to lol :p

And folks say it doesn't get cold in Los Angeles! :) @Krissi1982 would have been out in shorts and a tank top. :slide:
43.9 in LA is like 78.5 here in NJ. I'd be riding those gnarly waves then come out and soak in that CA sun in my :420:shirt with the sleeves cut off and some linen shorts-dusts off the sand easier- Might as well be the 4th of July for this girl  Mayne @Nev would could you two thin blooded souls up some nice hot gumbo and you can watch me surf in your parkas and long johns :surf:

:hmmmm:do they sell long johns in LA or would you have to drive up to the ski resorts to pick one up? I'm sure all of Amazon and other delivery traffic stopped because of the deep freeze

Doug's Varin Tuesday update! I took the pics in the tent because it's easier to see without the high contrast of the sunlight. Even so, I turned the flash on for the closeups. :)

Flip day 34 and 124 days above ground:

As you can see in that pic, the lowers are fading (what @BooWho2 calls "shed leaves" ;) ) so I'm considering bumping the nutes again.

What I've noticed about my plants (that doesn't seem to happen to others), is that once the first push of flowering occurs, I don't get new pistil growth on the top. It seems to stop pushing out new growth around the same time stretch stops and then focuses on bulking up and trichome development. You can see the top pistils starting to senesce in the bud pics, where everyone else's plants are still pushing out new growth at this stage.

I don't know if it's related to the sun or the schlepping or what, but I do wonder what I'm leaving on the table this way.

Anyway, that's it for me! I hope your week is going well.

Specking of the heating matt was wondering if you could use a splitter to run two matts of one controller ?
I can't see how one thermostat can compensate for the different electrical draws needed to get both mats to stay at the same temp.

Ahh, the jealous ramblings of a Jerseyite in winter!

Great update Shed! And stunning photos of the DV!

If both heat mats are in the same area, an Inkbird temp controller might help keep it from getting too warm, you'd just have to be clever with where the temp sensor would be located.

Thanks Krissi! I hope there are at least some worthwhile cannabinoids in there. :hmmmm:

Thank you Rex, our February MOTM!

I suppose if you plug both mats into an extension cord and plugged that into the thermostat (assuming you're under the max draw for it), it would send the same current to both. That could keep them around the same temp if they're next to each other. I guess it's worth a shot as long as the thermostat isn't overloaded with two.
It's looking very nice Shed, and the new pistils at the top or not, those cola tops look lovely and frosty!
Thanks Stunger! Someday maybe I'll grow one start to finish in one place and eliminate a variable. :)

Wow. The DV is SO green. That's the color of green I want my plants. Too bad she's so tiny.

On your "shed leaves" (yes, I see what you did there, lol) - I get them too! I'm beginning to get them right now on the Apple Blossom. And I have the EXACT same reaction - it makes me want to bump nutes. Lmao. I decided to stay the course with the PB this time though.

On the new pistil growth - first, you could have worse problems. We've seen your buds and they get FAT. So one perspective may be, for whatever reason it's a trade off and a pretty good one. Alternatively, I totally understand if you WANT another shower or three, and yes, I do see others get that, me included sometimes. It is rather mysterious. In my limited outdoor experience the RP and the PUC both got multiple pistil releases despite the sun (or at least the sun didn't make them not do that). Do you think it could have anything to do with how aggressively you take flarfy growth? That's one of the things I notice you do a bit differently than many others here, (I model my new model on your principle), and I naturally gravitate towards "what does Shed do differently that might account for this?"

Is this pistil thing something that happens to all your plants since forever?

I know right? At least it still fits well in the 2x4, especially since I have increased the positive pressure and the sides bow out when it's closed. :) Thanks Jon!

I'm at 157-34-181, so a bump to 180-38-200 is an easy tweak.

Good question! I have no idea, but I'll try to imagine why that might cause it. I could change my thinning style for a plant in the future, but without doing clones it won't tell me anything.

@StoneOtter has been de-larfing pretty aggressively lately. I wonder if he has noticed a difference in how his tops grow since he changed. :hmmmm:

Another good question. I would need to go through all my flowering pics going back 4 years to see, so I'll have to find time to peruse!
