In The Lab

Sorry I meant sativas and indicas. They are crosses anyway and you never know what your going to get from multiple seeds with a lot of these crosses on the market. It gets more difficult when you grow landrace sativas or indica since they haven't been breed for a similar indoor environment. I would pick the four that are the closest in finish time and use training to keep the canopy even as possible.

My mistake guys! You listed the tea dosage. I got it! I'll use these as my baseline and go from there. I'll probably start on the lighter end to be safe so I'll mix .5ml (drench) for every gallon of soil. So starting in my 1 gallon I'll mix .5ml (GE/transplant/CAT) and with my 10 gallon, 10ml (GE/transplant/CAT) plus water. Those of you using 10 gallon pots, are you finding 2 gallons of water per plant is enough?

You'll probably find that you need to dose on the higher side with smaller pots, so if the 1 gallon pots start to show weakness, don't be afraid to up the dosage. And be sure to get your thinking oriented towards the soil critters, not the plant. In bloom we're trying to keep the horde happy - they're in charge of feeding the plant - so you may or may not need to feed heavily.

I use 6 gallon pots, but that sounds about right. Top off with plain water. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Hey GT, how much water are you using for each of your 6 gallon pots? I've seen some people post they use around 2 gallon of water /pot but have seen some use less as well.

Also, I'll be bottom feeding during veg mode since they'll be small and manageable in the 1 gallon pots so I'll be using the dunk method but I'm assuming once I up-can them to 10 gallon pots I won't be able to bottom feed. However, I do plan on getting saucers big enough to perhaps do SOME bottom feeding, so perhaps a combination of top and bottom feeding will be applicable after my plants are in the 10 gallon pots.

I'm kinda embarrassed to say that I'm not all that sure how much my 6 gallons get. :hmmm: I water with solo cups, so I'll pour a couple into each of maybe 8 plants in rotation, then give 'em all another couple each, then a cup of Tea if it's in the schedule, then another couple cups of drench, then some plain water ... until they leak out the bottom.

:cheesygrinsmiley:

Ima lazy. :bongrip:

So ... :hmmmm: ... it feels like under 1.5 gallons per.

Fun question though, when a guy is as buzzed as I currently am ... nice day after a winter snowfall ... cozy ... bzzzz.

Since I already ordered my seeds, I'll just do 4 sativas in the tent and my 2nd grow will be with the indicas. Thanks all.

Hey Snoog,...starting off with four Sativas...brave lad..i like it. What strains and how hi are your ceilings/tent? Take a look at Doc's Colombians ,...or my Destroyer journal. Remember to account for lots of stretch. Cheers .:high-five:

Thanks Duggan..your making me a bit nervous now with going all sativas lol. Went through a few journals and now am starting to feel a bit over my head but im sure a few tokes will calm me.

Since you and others mentioned the height of the sativas i've picked, im obviously going to top (probably twice) during veg and use some serious LST to induce horizontal growth and restrict vertical as much as I can. I'm thinking about building a scrog for my 5x5x6.6. Now since this is my first grow I dont know how practical it is to have a framed scrog net inside the tent if I need to move the plants in and out for better access for pruning/feeding/tending or whatever else I may need to do. Ideally, I'd like to keep all 4 plants inside the tent so I can do everything I need to do inside but not sure if this is possible this is my first grow. I'm sure this will come with experience, but wanted to get feedback from others. Is it a good idea to build a frame for a scrog net for my 4 plants so I can prevent vertical growth (not completely but control them since the height of my tent is only 6.6ft) in addition to using topping and LST or will this be a hassle /PITA to have to remove the scrog to tend to the plants? Any and all suggestions are welcomed!

Thanks

A hassle. Don' do it with sativas.

The damned things just aren't predictable enough. Besides, you can accomplish the same thing in individual pots - no need for one big one. I've grown only sativas and sativa-dominant hybrids, and I've found it's best to train them as individuals. For hazey fluffy ones, too much topping and/or LST can disrupt their natural habit enough to make a real mess. On the other hand, a lot of hybrids take very well to heavy training.

SCROG works really well with a bunch of clones, where every plant will have the same growth habit. :bongrip:

snoogensz, sativas are fun! :)

Hey GT,

The sativas I have aren't pure sativas, mostly sativa dominant hybrids (Cotton candy, critical nev haze,AK47, sour tangie) . Also to be clear, I haven't decided if I was going to do one big scrog screen to cover all 4, or 2 smaller screens. Scrog or not, I'll definitely be topping, LSTing in order to train. Thanks for your response GT, sounds like your on the no-scrog side for this first grow.

AK47 respond well to training. I've grown them 2-3 times before. Here is my current AK47 on repotting day.
Topped once, then 4 main branches spread out to allow 5-6 more branches to grow from the center.

Hey Rad, dope! thanks for the pic and input. Did you top? If you did did you top once or twice?

Hey Snoog,..top of the day to ya brotha! Ya, I'm with Gray...no scrog....big PITA! Take a look at Noob4x4's grow . He started off topping and LSTing....then he put a scrog in there and it wasn't too long before he asked me if he could remove it....needless to say , he did and had a fantastic finish to his grow with top shelf produce and a shitload for yield! I highly recommend doing it 'freehand '...you learn way more as you develop the skill and see how they really perform and what it takes to get thru a grow.
A lil caution with that Nevil's Haze hybrid....if ya get a NH pheno out of it ,it could bloom for two yrs. before it's ready...HAHAHA. Another thing too, you only have 6 feet up top....not enough for Sat's...IMO!
Oh ya about Ziggs...he loves Sativa's ....don't listen to him......he's a mad scientist... :smokin:have ya checked out his previous grows....what a hoot . Just kidding of course...he really knows his stuff....cheers Snoog , and good luck choosing the right strains. TBH, if it was me ...I would do four plants of the same...much easier and less stressful for your first grow bud! Have an awesome night Snoog and gang!:circle-of-love:

Topped once at the 4th node. The branches from 3rd and 4th node grew out, I gently ushed the branches down for about 5 seconds every day, When the branches were 3-4 inches long, I used wires anchored in the soil to hold the branches wide. as the branches spread out, new growth grows in the center.

That photo was 4-5 days ago. Here is the same AK47 today - looks bushier to me :)

You can get sativas to finish by putting them on 11/13 lighting. Another way I've learned to control height on them, not intentionally, is to top them as you put them into flower, they take time to recover from topping and that is part of the time they would stretch. I've read keeping them in smaller containers will help as well. That can make growing in the kit more challenging though. Normally, the bigger the better with kit soil. Any way you slice it though, sativas just kick ass. I'll put up with the finickiness of them for the buzz.

yep. from seed, full spectrum too..10.5./13.5 shortens the grow and plant, and get unique terpenes

:)

Unfortunately I've already ordered 1 seed of each strain which in hindsight seems like a poor decision but you live and you learn ha. Hopefully with topping and good training I'll be able to control the sativa's affinity for taller heights. I just am a huge sativa fan which was why I ordered single sativa beans of different strains.
