In The Lab

I can get a bit scatter brained. Lol. That whole mission statement is why im here! Well that and the bud porn! Im almost tempted a bit to hold off on the cookies and try sprouting these durban poison bxs i got. But cookies...

Durban poison will go apeshit in the kit, no special treatment. It will be marvelously different than you've had before. Cookies are a bit tougher to grow, but also do very well.

Questions on recycling soil.

I have soil that was cooked outside in October, then brought into a 55 F basement to avoid bitter outdoor cold.
I would like to use the last 10 gallons of soil in a few weeks.

I transferred the soil into a smaller container and placed it in my 78 F veg room. The soil moisure is 'almost ready to soak'.
I was thinking of giving the soil a good soak and storing until use. Does this sound good?

Also going forward, I'm going to cook both new soil and 2nd run soil. I will probably be cooking 2-4 pots of soil fairly continuously.
I can't cook the soil in the 55 gallon garden cart all 4 seasons because the basement stays at 50-55 F.

What do you think of cooking individual pots in plastic totes?
Would it be better than cooking in 7-10 gal fabric pots?

To get the soil ready, do light watering with warm water and a splash of Tea. It will be ready in 2 weeks, if stored in a warm place.

I've never recycled a pot at a time so I really have no guidance for you on that. I have only done it in 40 gallon plastic trash barrels. The larger the mass of soil, the better it will cook as the microbial activity will warm up the soil and the mycellium will have room to spread out. Perhaps keep a tote of it in the grow room?

The 26g? gallon sterelite totes are ideal for storing and cooking soil. :slide: :thumb:

Easy to warm them up with a seedling heating pad underneath - every grower should have one anyway.

I've also successfully cooked the last two weeks in individual 6 gallon pots - with plants in them. The progression in the plants was obvious and entertaining. :cheesygrinsmiley: My soil was only 2 weeks into the cook and I had to upcan, so ... I did a Ziggy and potted 'em up, heheh. I don't recommend it - there's some funky chemical reactions going on in the early cook that'll kill a plant dead - but I got away with it. So I think yes, you could recook in pots, but no, you're better off with a bigger volume as Doc said.

I keep all my soil in totes and simply wet them down and heat them when they come up in rotation. Throw some leaves in there, close it up and check back in a week or so. If the leaves are gone, you're good to go.

[Edit] Sheesh, nice plants, Aruu!

Hey Doc and gang.
So i've decided to make the big leap and supplement my grow room with Co2. :):) I've dialed in the environment to a degree and a percent and have so much light I have to wear sun glasses haha.

My big question for everyone is, what temperatures are you running? Recently I moved my temps to 80 and 60% r/h and the plants seemed to really like it. Right now i'm running 77 degrees @ 55% R/H. I've read that higher temps are the best as long as I can raise the humidity to match. What do you do with and without CO2 Doc?

I recently destroyed two different batches of seeds because I tried to run too early .. 2 weeks later I plated the other 1/2 of 'em which poped and started growing as if nothing happened. For a moment I almost lost it. :Namaste:

I always run between 900 and 1500 PPM Co2.

Night temps 67-70 depending. Day temps 77-82 depending.
rH 50-60% except sometimes I go with a cool, dry night cycle for certain strains. I'll go to 66 and 45% rH for those.

Never thought of the heating pad Graytail. I just gave two away in the last culling of belongings. :laughtwo: Ahhhh..... The irony. They sat unused for over five years. I give them away and discover I had a use all along. Lol!

Yep, a simple rule of thumb is:

light = .5ml/gal soil
med = .75ml/gal soil
full = 1.0ml/gal soil

and this is really a symbiotic relationship with doses depending on strain, light intensity etc as well, but serves as a decent guide for my plants.

My brain is so fried right now I can't make sense of any of this !!! Peace Hope to get some help soon !:passitleft:

Warm watered about 1/2 gallon or so with Tea.

The tote is in a warm spot under the veg table

I know variables will change things.

I am simply asking the question for the sake of getting the information cataloged on the website for other people to find if and when someone decides to search for it.

Once again and just for the sake of information:

During the veg phase, what is the most number of days anyone has gone in between a watering and a drench or a drench and a watering?

Personally speaking my current grow, at the moment, just finished it's thirteenth day in between a drench and a watering.
For other variables...I am growing in a single gallon smart pot with a high temperature around 78F and a low around 68F, the humidity level is around 50%, and my lights are only on for 13 hours total.

I just stumbled on this post. What medium

cnile, GoldeEagle is referring to soil made with ProMix HP, EWCastings, some rocks/rockdust and mycos..part of a simple kit and grow system that Doc Bud has developed that many others and he himself uses with reproducible results.

its called Doc Buds High Brix Blend kit available through him. :thumb:

people that try anything grown in the soil, herbs, fruits, veggies, flowers say its the best they've tried/had
