In The Lab

I should probably stop giving advice in this thread since I am so new. I have been trying to follow directions as best I can and below is a quote directly from Doc's directions and a suggested watering/feeding schedule by Duggan. I just noticed the discrepancy of when to use trans drench, in bloom only or in veg and bloom, thoughts?

Have a brixy day people! :rollit:

Transplant Should be used during the bloom phase alternating with Growth Energy. It is used at 1/2 to 2 oz per 6 plants (30 square feet.) Some growers have found that essential oil and resin production can be increased by using 1/4 oz of Transplant evenly distributed to every plant with each and every watering....whether with a drench or with just plain water. Please note, this does not mean 1/4 TO EVERY PLANT, but 1/4 oz divided equally to all plants.

Schedule by Duggan.
Here is a very typical water /feed schedule for using the "kit" properly in veg. and bloom!
GE Drench W/Tea......
.Water with1/4 Trans (could be straight water too)...
.Water with 1/4 Trans (could be straight water too)......
Transplant Drench with Tea.....
.Water with 1/4 Trans (could be straight water too).....
.Water with 1/4 Trans(could be straight water too)....
.GE Drench with Tea......Repeat....Repeat! 3

Morning Gang,...ya Ween ...a good rule of thumb to remember is whenever you give a CD or Transplant Drench ...make the next drink a "plain water " one , get it. CD is mostly Transplant , so ya don't wanna give more right after a Transplant Drench or a Cd Drench OK. Now , the next drink after a GE Drench can be 1/4 Transplant , got it,...cuz GE has none in it. My simple directions are to illustrate the alternating Drenches , first one , then the other , but with lots of plain water between. Remember we are growing in containers, and whatever we put in them will not all get used up and may build up and cause us grief down the road. Don't use too much kit stuff in our soil and remember ,...we are feeding the soil biota and not the plant directly . Using the foliars and following an every week to ten day regimen is important....remember this soil is designed to take advantage of these sprays and they DO work very well at feeding the soil and biota. A light misting from underneath is preferred over misting the tops of the leaves, try and get the undersides of the leaves, this will enable more to be absorbed , and in turn feed the biota thru root exudes.
Have an awesome day everyone and a great New Years Eve!:circle-of-love:

Hi Duggan! Thanks and a Happy New Year to you too!

The question is are we supposed to give full strength trans drench in veg and bloom? Doc's directions say only in bloom. Brix Klinger had asked if we are to ever give full strength TD so I was responding to that. Thanks Brother Duggan!

Yes Ween, it's all about timing . I grow just as my shortened directions say...alternate the Drenches in Veg and Bloom . It's totally fine to give a Transplant Drench in Veg. , followed by plain water twice then give a GE Drench, then more water , got it. After a GE Drench a lil Transplant is good , like 1/4 strength, as we do. After ya's give a Transplant Drench OR a CD Drench , lay off the Transplant OK. Give some straight water a couple times...then give a GE Drench. The thing we wanna do is play the two main Drenches against each other. On is geared to reproductive and the other (GE) is geared to mainly growth OK! So after a GE Drench i give plain water , but the next one will have 1/4 Trans in it ....getting it? Remember to give a lil Tea with EVERY Drench. Cheers eh!

yea i totally mis understood the alternating feeds all along. I took it to mean GE feeds with the alternating 1/4 strenth trans feeds, not what you guys are saying, but now I see .... not obviuos to me till now...hmm i bet my next rounds are happier lol...

I have been doing this except have not been giving 1/4 trans on the 2nd RO after GE but will now, thanks!

Quick update:

I got rid of my 1lb and 7lb smart pots and ordered 1gal regular plastic pots due to Canad420's suggestion. I will still be using smart pots for my final plants but will be going with 10gal this time based on other's recommendations. I'm assuming the feed /dosage for 4 plants remain the same even though they will be in the bigger 10gal pots. Soils been cooking and temps are right around 65 in the room so I should be good to go in a month. I've ordered my seeds (Sour Tangie, Cotton candy, crit nev haze, cinderella 99, ak47, caramel ice, tangereine dream and goldmine) and getting anxious. I only plan on germinating 4 seeds any suggestions on which 4 to start? I figure I go with 2 sativas and 2 indicas..open for suggestions. Also, I got a few PMs and feedback on some dosage and feeding schedules but would like to compare to others who are also doing 4 plant grows. Any cheat sheets/feedback from other 4 plant growers?

Happy New Year Snoog! Your ideas sound good ....all my grows are 4 plant grows using an entire kit (+5gal's.) for my two 26 gal. "Rootbuilder" pots. However your idea of doing two Sat's. and two Indicas in the same flower room (?) is NOT recommended bud...they will finish too far apart from each other and will prove to be a PITA! They will grow at different rates and cause grief in the room. Try and keep the strain finishing times as close as you can otherwise , like I say, it can and will be a PITA . You may wanna try one strain with the kit first (all four plants). I would also recommend getting another "kit"s worth of soil cooking so you have TWO "Kits" in rotation, that way you always have a kit ready to go! Cheers and have an awesome day!

Feeding amounts are based on gals of soil, not really number of plants. ;)

I just harvested a Cotton Candy in the top link in my sig. Has a nice sweet smell to it. She needed a good amount of MG to be added through flowering. I was feeding her about .5 - .75 ml of drench per gallon of soil (she might of done better with 1ml per gal) and about 4 tbs of epson salt once a week top dress on 12 gal soft pots.

Yup, it's doable to grow them together if you have multiple lights and can adjust the heights differently for the two types but it's a pita. Usually the optimal settings for lighting, temps and RH are different enough that one of the two is gonna be pissy. If this is your first grow sticking with one type or the other would certainly be easier :thumb:

Thanks Duggan! Happy New year too you as well (and everyone else in this forum) I did think about the drawbacks of doing 2 different sativas and 2 different indicas in the same grow tent in terms of the potentially different grow/flower times so when I ordered my seeds, I made sure they all had the same "advertised" flower time. All of the strains I listed above are listed as 8-10 weeks (with the exception of the cinderella 99 which is 6-8 weeks. Do you still think this is a bad idea if they are all the same in terms of flowering time? Any and all advice /comment is welcomed!

Hey Smokey,

I should've prepped more before ordering seeds. Unfortunately, I ordered a single seed of all 8 strains (in hindsight perhaps I should've picked 4 seeds of the same strain). What do you guys think I should do now that I only have one single seed of all the strains? I totally agree with your sentiment about one tent with one temp/RH, as I'm sure different strains will want different ranges. I suppose I could order more seeds of the same strain, but I already spent $ on my seeds and feel like I'll be ok since they have the same flowering time. I plan on topping all of my plants and LST to keep em contained as my tent height is around 6.6 ft.

Yep, a simple rule of thumb is:

light = .5ml/gal soil
med = .75ml/gal soil
full = 1.0ml/gal soil

and this is really a symbiotic relationship with doses depending on strain, light intensity etc as well, but serves as a decent guide for my plants.

Excellent! So simple, really. :bravo:

With Tea doses at one-tenth of that.

light = .05ml/gal soil
med = .075ml/gal soil
full = 0.1ml/gal soil

Mixed with enough water to suit the pot, topped off with plaiin water if necessary.

Mix the Tea with water separately from the drench - we sometimes forget to mention that - let the Tea sit in its water for a couple minutes to "steep" before you dump it into the soil.

Easy peasy. :slide:

Right GT. And to clarify, I've cooked my soil a little weak, and cooked it a little hot (not really intentionally mind you...just a result of buying/building in bulk at times) and with that in mind, if my plants are really banging and the environment is on point, suffice it to say i'll lean towards the higher end. On the other hand, if they are a little younger or maybe a little burnt from hot-ish soil, I'll go lighter.

My mistake guys! You listed the tea dosage. I got it! I'll use these as my baseline and go from there. I'll probably start on the lighter end to be safe so I'll mix .5ml (drench) for every gallon of soil. So starting in my 1 gallon I'll mix .5ml (GE/transplant/CAT) and with my 10 gallon, 10ml (GE/transplant/CAT) plus water. Those of you using 10 gallon pots, are you finding 2 gallons of water per plant is enough?
