Icetech's First Grow Durban Poison & Jack Herer In Soil, QB LED, 2019

A cheap in line filter from a big box store would drop your tap water ppm. Not as good as RO obviously, but would remove lime, chlorine and a few other minerals. It would improve the taste of you drinking water too. Just plumb it into the fixture your using. Might be a cheap solution. Then you can add more nutes and grow em big. I swear by them for the steam humidifiers and ice machines I service.

So I saw some snow in the ground this morning after 60f+ weather this past weekend and I thought... I wonder how @Icetech is doing. Plants are looking good! Hopefully you figured out the nute issue.

It's funny are almost on the same schedule and purchases lol. Mine is on first week of flowering and I just put together my second tent together and ordered some QB288s for my flowering room too!! What's going on man!

Well, luckily here in detroit we actually have the best water system in the country.. 110ppm i find acceptable.. for chlorine, i keep a 5 gallon bucket that i fill and let sit for 2 days at a time and give a little kick now and then to dislodge the air bubbles from the sides.. no issues so far...

I have seen RO systems you can mount right under the sink and come with their own faucet.. just can't see spending the money where it's not needed (plus i'm lazy and don't wanna) :)

Nice, and yeah.. a little snow this morning.. i'm ok with that i sit in work for 12 hours so the outside doesn't matter much to me :)

Main plants look awesome.. i switched to jacks 321 a few days ago... so still a bit early to tell but no weird color or unhappy leafs anywhere..

My clones seem ok.. the leafs are turning yellow which means they are sucking up nutes out of them so that should mean root growth :) I stopped this morning at walmart and got a second brick of coco so i can transplant them soon. I used way too big of cubes of rockwool to clone into.. i'm going cut them down a little tonight and see if i have some roots or what.

I took some clones out of my Green Crack right before I started flowering. I decided to put them in Coco for right now but will be going in a bucket once they get some roots. So far so good considering they are in a utility closet next to my water softener lol

New tent went up last night so I can get some other strains started

Looks good :) What size tents? I kind of wish i had gone 4x4.. but 4x2 is nice, since it's shallow i don't have to try to reach back to feed rear plants.. If i can pull 5-6oz a plant i will be happy.. 1 oz lasts me months easily. I just need enough to give away to people :)

P.S. you staying coco or going soil when you transplant?

I don't know where you are located.. but hydropros has insane prices for soil.. for a i think 50lb bag of happy frog it was $13.. where amazon is 35ish..

@Icetech I have a 4x4 tent right now but I quickly realized that I needed a veg tent if I wanted to rotate strains. Hate to have to wait 4-5 months for harvests on a single tent. I am growing more for variety than yield but I will be happy getting 5oz too!

I decided to go with a vivosun 5x4 tent. It's the 2 in 1 version so I have some added space for clones when the other plants are vegging and hoarding the light.

For the clones, I am going to transplant them to DWC after they get some roots established. I was going to keep them in Coco but I don't want to have to water them every day. In DWC during vegging I can go a week before I even have to do anything to them. I mean, I still go down there, check ppm, pH and whisper sweet nothings to them but I don't really have to do much. Now that they are drinking lots I have to fill 2qts every other day though.

I thought about soil too but for some reason hydroponics just makes sense to me as I am a numbers guy lol

I frequently go to Hydro Giant in West Bloomfield as it is on my way to work. The guys there are all cannabis growers and have helped a lot. Their prices are very comparable to Amazon, sometimes even cheaper!

Awesome.. and yeah i had already cut clones.. and was like ummm wtf i have no where to put these soon as i go 12/12 :) I my first tent was a apollo which was great quality.. second a ohuru or something like that.. and what a flaming piece of crap :( but that's life....

My first grow was soil, i'm going coco now after watching grow pot cheaply's videos.. just can't deny that root structure and growth..

Hydro pro's is at hall/van dyke.. a bit out of your way :(

P.S. jealous bout you working in bloomfield.. i have been east side my whole life and i hate it here... well michigan in general at this point though :)

One of the guys at the hydro store told me the same thing about Coco and that's one of the main reasons I cloned in Coco. It is definitely more forgiving and don't have to worry about power going out! I dunno, I might do one of them in Coco and see what happens lol

The traffic and busyness this side of town is a nightmare! I go where work is so can't complain much lol. I spent many days and drunken nighs in Mt Clemens and St Clair shores when I dated a girl over there.

Can't hate Michigan now! We are 1 of only 2 states that allows 12 plants to be grown at home!

Meh.. weed wasn't exactly hard to find before... what i hate is that we are a trump state full of drunks and morons (i have a severe hatred of drunks) And yeah.. i rarely make it to the west side but driving on like southfield or telegraph during work hours is just terrifying to me, it's really insane.

P.S. from what i have seen west side girls are a lot better also.. just have to be able to afford them :)

Hahaha. I am a beer lover but not a drunk. I have come to realization that I am not as young as I used to and I rather smoke than drink but can't remember last time I was drunk lol.

Where did you get your QBs? I got some of that tax return money and went out and bought some QB288s from HLG to do a diy set up but that was like $500 just parts!! Their set up that I am going for is $1k!! I thought I was getting a good deal as I am an electrical guy and can do it myself but now I feel I overpaid! It will definitely be an improvement from my Betsva "1000watt" burple light. I will keep her for some vegging and cloning until I get more money lol

Yeah.. fuck blurple... and fuck HLG.. guy doesn't answer emails.. plus i bought the exact same thing he sells.. with the exact same LEDs (unless you believe that bin bs) from kingbrite on alibaba for $100 less shipped than he charges...

If i had more money i would just order a max yeild light from perfectsunled.. OR led strips and heatsinks from pacific light concepts.. but my ass is broke soo.. 250w qb's for me :) $195 shipped..

BTW.. not sure how much you dumped into your lights yet.. but the perfect sun max yeild is just under 1k and the guy pulled 3lbs from a single plant using it.. of course he is a great grower, but it proves the light works.

Damn! That's a lot cheaper for sure! I am $375 in the hole for 4 qb288 with heat sinks from HLG and $140 from Arrow for the driver which I can use on pretty much anything. I have plenty of extruded aluminum and hardware to put together a frame if I need one.

Regarding the bin stuff, I am not 100% sure how they have it all set up but coming from the electronics side of things I can tell you that it may just be where the parameter limits of those LEDs were set to and the amount of variations these lights have and where they fall within the a bell curve. These probably get binned by lot variation with tighter tolerances. All in all it may not have a large effect on the output of the entire panel.

I am going to look them up and maybe order a couple for the veg tent. Right now I will be putting the QBs in the flowering room as they are at 3k

He sells those light strips which are samsung 301's the strips are 1" and the diodes are just packed together on them.. super high density.. each strip is 22" and 50w $28 a strip.. The frame is just C channel alum which works as a heatsink.. there are a few ways to mount them, personally i would use double sided heat tape.

so.. for my 2x4 tent i would use 3-4 rows.. 2 per row.. so 6-8 strips.. which is 300-400w.. ok i would go 4 rows.. 400w 8x$28 $224 into the led's.. add c-channel and driver... done for under 500..

The awesome thing bout that over QB's is you can spread the lights over your entire grow... my QB is not wide enough for my tent so the outside branches on my plants won't get enough light :( but with that setup and the strips i would end up 44" wide in a 48" tent.. and 4 rows deep.. there isn't a inch that isn't getting great light...

If i had spare cash that would be my setup.. Although.. a 4 panel QB setup is like $400ish i think.. so it evens out.. but this module or DIY setup you can add/remove rows/strips and change it around...

@Icetech how many boards and what kind did you get for the $195? I went to look for them in Alibaba and they have similar options as HLG. Their qb288 replacement is $138.50 for 2 but I think the driver is included! that would make this ~$238 cheaper than what I got I think. What's their shipping cost usually like?

Dammit, I should have done my homework better here. To be honest the moment that tax return hit I was online buying the QBs as I needed better lights for flowering!

This is the exact one i got..
250w kingbrite.

I got 1 3 months ago and another last week... That's the 250w and has worked great in my 2x4 tent.. i kind of wish i had gotten a 300w cause it's 3 panels and wider, the 2 panel is a little too narrow to cover the outside of my plants.. but i just fixed that.. took the panels off the heatsink.. cut it in half and now i can center the lights and raise/lower for each plant :)

Shipping was like $45 and took 4 days to detroit.. also came with 2 rope ratchets which was a nice touch...
