Icemud's LED Grow - The Tangie Pheno Hunt

Have a great time Icemud. :battingeyelashes: :hugs:

Wow....I am subbed!

That was a smart move BrownStone. It's like sitting at the feet of brilliance all over this site, here in particular.

Hey Everyone!!!! Ice is back in the building! haha :)

Thank you so much everyone for the best wishes for my safe travels...

I had a great time going back to the old stomping grounds, seeing a few close friends and most importantly seeing my parents. I really hate being 2000 miles away from them so it was such a treat to be back and enjoy my family :)

Well I guess it was extremely hot while I was gone, and when I walked into my apartment after being pretty much sealed up for 1 week... it was extremely hot and humid in there and I was like Uh oh....

I dropped my bags and immediately looked into all the tents to check on the babies.

Everything looked pretty good and was growing quite well. I checked the high/low temps on my thermometers and the tent never got above 89F so I was actually quite impressed how well turning down the lights worked, even with outside temps in the 90s while I was gone. I did however have a couple tragedies happen...The purple pheno of the GSC in my veg/mother tent died while I was gone, which I pretty much saw coming even before I left, and since I have a thin mint pheno GSC, I'm not at a loss and actually made room for my Black Diamond OG in the veg/mother tent.

I also unfortunately lost both of the GDP plants I had going, and since they really never took off, I think I overwatered them before I left which is what caused there downfall. I will have to contact that clone place to see if they now have some rooted ones. Not that I really want to go back there because of what I experienced last time, but I do really want GDP so if they have some rooted I may pick some up.

Other than the GSC and the 2x GDP dying, everything else survived and looks happy and healthy.

I lifted all the pots and they were all pretty dry so I gave each plant 2 cups of R/O water, humboldt equillibrium, and a 1/4 dose of dogget/simpson veg.

I will take photos tomorrow as I am pretty exhaused from my trip and definitely in need of a good night sleep.

Again thank you everyone for the best wishes on my trip as it truly was very wonderful, needed, and even in a way therapeutic. (I have a friend who is heavy into healing, energies, crystals, chakras and such, and she did a cleanse of my chakras before I left. I really felt centered and balanced after the healing and the best way to describe it was I felt like a solid body of water, flowing fluid and without effort. It was amazing. I also have been studying hypnosis and did a small induction and relaxation hypnosis on her and it worked wonderful, and I was happy that my 1st induction went well and she felt relaxed, healed and after fully coming back to consciousness felt energized. It will take a while before I can actually know enough with hypnosis to do healing but I am very encouraged to learn more, as I think giving the gift of better life is a wonderful thing one can offer.

Well everyone, thank you for the good vibes, wishes and all, as I truly appreciate it :)

Photos will be posted tomorrow :)

First off, Welcome back!! We missed you, but we knew you were having a good time. A chakra balancing - you lucky dog!! I do my own on a regular basis. Years of practice and I still forget sometimes, that that's what's needed. Tsk.

Second, ask yourself why you want to risk infestation control again this year? You handle it well, yes, but those guys were scary Icemud.

Glad you had such a good visit and it's good to have you back among us. Oh look! The lights came on. DeStress foliars! I knew there was a reason I was still up. :laughtwo: Have a good day.

Welcome back Ice! Going to brave the zombie cloners again? Hmm GDP must truly be epic to want to deal with them again. lol :) Who knows, they may have gotten a clue and started taking care of their plants. No harm in contacting them to see if they are still around and to see if they have done anything to improve their plants. Perhaps offer them some clones of the GSC? I love the GSC thin mints in real life. I would certainly consider a trade for a box of those. :)

I definitely am glad to be back, but also miss being "home" as the midwest will always be my true home :)

I really didn't know what to expect with the chakra balancing but it really worked. I felt better, more balanced and wholesome afterwords which was really a nice feeling :) She said she can also do distance healing so I think I may have to take her up on the offer :)

Yea Im hesitant on contacting those clone guys again, but I really want GDP so I may have to bite the bullet and just go and get 1 or 2, and now that I cleared out my 3rd tent, I can use that as the quarantine tent and so I wont have to worry about them infecting other plants as they are in a completely different tent in a different room, now I just hope that they actually still have GDP.

The visit was really needed and perfect, as even though I have a strong sense of family its really hard to express that and enjoy that when being so far, and phonecalls and emails only take it so far, nothing better than giving them a big hug and feeling the love :)

Speaking of foliars, I gave my girls a nice welcome home foliar feeding today :)

GDP is definitely epic in my opinion, the strong smell and taste is so unlike any other strains I have tried, and the high is good but I love it for the flavor. I will definitely see if they have it, but if not, I'm sure along the way someone else will have it and being that I have plenty of other strains to work with, if they don't have it its ok because I still have my tangies and other strains that I got from them that I haven't flowered out yet :)

I think I may have to take some clones of my GSC thin mints as the mother is looking a little bit ill, so probably will take some cuttings in the next few days just to have an extra on hand... and who knows... If I get a male tangie, may make an excellent opportunity to cross a cutting of GSC with it :)

PHOTO UPDATE!!!

So... I made some changes to my gardens today....

In my Tangie tent, I decided that having the 3x XTE 300's was a bit overkill (hence my last journals title) and I have been having trouble running all 3 of the lights at 100% full intensity and keeping the temps down with the rather warm spell of weather we have had lately, so I decided to take 1 of the XTE lights out of the tent so that I could run the other 2 at full. Since the goal of the tangie grow is to pheno hunt, and not going for max yield or anything, I figured I could do away with 1 of them and still have the benefits of a significant harvest, as well as lower temps that the plants will favor.

The Tangies are definitely benefiting from the topping that I did before I left for vacation. It has greatly increased the auxillary branching which was my goal, so that I will have some valid branches to use for clones of each of the plants until I choose which are male/female and which will be my keeper phenos. I am not going to clone them for another week or so, because I want them to get larger and have more branching before doing so. The growth looks good, even though slower than expected, which is probably due to the irregular waterering/flooding before vacation, as well as the hot temps while I was gone, so hopefully now that I reduced the heat load in the tent I will see an increase in growth.

Photo update continued....

So for my veg tent, I also made some changes with the lighting. Since I am not too happy with the all blue spectrum of the EX-VEG lights, I wanted to add red/white to the spectrum to decrease the stretching. I originally added one of my extra Igro lights to the tent, but they run so darn hot and inefficient, as well as pose a hazard to shorting out I decided that now that I have my extra XTE 300, I replaced the Igro with the XTE 300, and moved the 2x EX VEG lights to the sides, turned 90 degrees and tilted towards the middle. I felt this would provide a good light penetration by offering a slightly angled light instead of downward lighting, as well as with the XTE in the middle running on full would provide a good full spectrum to decrease the stretch that I am seeing, as well as take away my worries of the IGros failing on me.

I moved my black diamond OG into the veg/mother tent because with the GSC (purple pheno) dying I had a spot for it, which completely cleaned out my 3rd tent and made room for the upcomming tangie clones that I will be taking, or if I decide to get more GDP clones, I can use it to quarantine the plants until I know for certain they are clean and rid of any pests.

All plants received a foliar feeding today of what I have left of Amaze (i didn't want to dump it and since I only have a little left I will use it until its gone, but wont be ordering more...see my MSDS post) I added PGR, carboload and yucca extract to the spray and let it do its thing, right before the lights went out for the day.

I will probably have to take some clones of my GSC (thin mint) as it is looking pretty shabby and I don't want to lose the genetics. I am not sure why the GSC is giving me such a hard time as a mother plant, it just doesn't want to grow hardy, and really dislikes any topping at all.

Just a warning for anyone along the California coast and Hawaii, There was a major earthquake in Chile and there are Tsunami watches/advisories for all south facing beaches in California and also in Hawaii... They don't expect the waves/surge to be large, but anyone living near the coast beware... the waves are supposed to hit around 430am here in Cali... I'm about 1mile from the coast so I am not worried, but those right on the beach may need to be aware....

Saw in many threads that I have read with people mention the beauty of plants you turn out. Had to check it out myself... Nice work.

I have in-laws in HI so my thoughts are with them, hope it's not too bad for them. Stay dry!

Keep em green and sticky :peace:

Hey HealthyToker! I love the username! Welcome to my journal :)

awww shucks... (blushing) I try my best and so far they have been turning out pretty nice :) so glad you found my journal :) please feel free to make yourself welcome, grab a comfy chair, some fine greenery and join along :) Happy to have ya!

The last report I read said that its just a watch/advisory and for the Continental US and Hawaii they are not expecting much beside maybe waves up to 1 meter, but they also said that as the time comes they will know more. Figured since there are a lot of Cali and Hawaii growers here I should just give the heads up, but by the sounds of it is may just be a small wave, and bad currents.

Here is a update of my girls today....

The Tangie tent:

The Tangie tent is coming along nicely as the girls continue to grow. I have not watered them since when I returned Tuesday night and by the feel of the pots they still can go a couple more days before watering again. I think I may even wait until I see a little leaf sag just to ensure those roots are really digging into the soil.

I noticed in my veg tent (the other tent) a few spidermites on the area 51 plant, so in precaution I mixed up a foliar preventative spray and sprayed the tangies, even though there are absolutely no signs of any mites in this tent. I just want to make sure since my tangie tent is right next to my veg tent.

In my mix I put: 1 gallon of r/o water
Captain Jacks Deadbug (spinosad)
Bonide Insecticidal soap
Neem Oil
1-1-1 B vitamins
2-4-0 hydrolyzed fish

I sprayed the girls and made sure to cover both the tops and bottoms of the leaves, just in case.

The Mother/Veg tent:

So things are looking really good in this tent, however, my other GSC (think mint) for some reason decided to die on me. I've noticed that GSC does not suck up water like the other plants do, and so I believe the cause of death was my overwatering before I left for a vacation, but even before that I noticed that the plant did not seem to be happy. I actually noticed last night that the plant was fading and looked really wilty, so I managed to snag 4 clones off her and immediately dunked them in an aloe/reverse osmosis water, then clonex, into the root riot plugs and humidity dome with heating pad. I then sprayed the cuttings with a mix of R/O water, 1-1-1 b vitamins and PGR. Today when I checked the clones 3 of them seemed responsive and looked perked up, so I really hope that at least 1 of them roots. I really love this GSC cut and would hate to lose it. Such an amazing pheno with its heavy kush undertones.

I noticed yesterday that my Area 51 plant had a few white dots on a couple of the leaves, and upon inspection..yep.. I found 2 mites on one leaf and a few areas with seeds. I squashed any mites I found and then sprayed all the plants with Bon Neem (last night)

Today I hit all the plants with my foilar spray mix (listed above) first making a round with a very hard and focused spray to make sure to blast any of the mites on the lower denser foliage, and then followed up with a fine mist to make sure every surface was covered. I also made sure to spray the stems and the top layer of soil just to make sure that everything was coated.

I didn't notice any mite damage on any other plants so at this time I think it may be isolated to just the area 51 plants, but will keep watch with a close eye, and follow up on sunday with a spray of Mite X. I've had success with getting rid of them before, and by the looks of it I caught it very early where the population was very small. Hopefully I rid them with success again.

Other than that, all the other plants look good, and show nice new growth. They all have enough water for the next 2-3 days so I will be holding off on any waterings until I see some leaf droop.

Here are the photos of the Tangie tent:

Sorry to hear about the thin mints bro. Glad you got some cuttings from her. Really will be rooting for those clones. Sorry to hear about your mites again. But you seem to be extremely good at extermination, so it should be all good. :) I was glad to read about your tangies though. They sound and look great. I hope they continue to grow strong for you bro. Good job as always and love the updates Ice!

Thanks Bamalabrat! The mites I thought were gone but I should have continued the treatment for longer. I actually just read last night that Spinosad can be used systemically so I added a little to my feedings and we will see if it works. Its supposed to last 3 weeks, so I figure if I keep up with treatments for the next month I should be good to go :) I have 4 products that are good for mites, so I will keep them in rotation and hopefully they should be gone within a month :)

Quick update:

So I discovered that my Black Diamond OG was covered in mites, and seemed to be the main "home" for all of them, so I decided since my 3rd tent was open, to put the Black Diamond OG and also the Area 51 into the tent on quarantine. I will continue to treat both tents but figured since I didn't see any marks on the other mothers in the tent, it would be better to keep the infected plants away since they probably host more eggs than the ones that are uneffected.

Today I followed up with a 2nd application of spinosad. I was reading about mites last night, the type I have is the 2 spotted spidermite, and supposedly they can become immune to mitacides very quickly, so all the university resources I read suggested that you should at least use 2 products and alternate between them to prevent them building up a tolerance.

What I have on hand:
Captain Jacks Deadbug: spinosad
Insecticidal soap:
Mite X: clove oil, garlic oil, cottonseed oil
Bon Neem: neem oil and pyrethrins
SNS 209: rosemary oil, rosemary extract

I also read that a study was done with Spinosad and it seems that there is positive evidence it can be used as a biological systemic treatment and showed good potential when added to the roots of tomato plants in rockwool cubes... so I added about 20ml to my water for the plants and gave each of my plants a light feeding.

I also removed all the leaves that showed the worst amount of damage on the Black Diamond OG which was pretty severly hit by the mites. I can't believe I didn't notice it earlier, however most of the damage was on the far side of the plant, up against the wall so its possible that the sprays weren't getting to that part of the plant.

Now that they are isolated, I will continue to monitor their progress in eradication, and if worst comes to worst, I can always clone them and start over since it will be a couple months before they are ready to go to flowering (once the tangies are done).

I also will be treating the Tangies, even though I see no signs of mites, I figured preventative sprays are much better than letting a problem surface and then treating it.

I also removed my GSC (thin mints) and she went into the garbage today. I hope at least 1 of the 4 clones roots and I am pretty certain that one of them should. I have been spraying them 1-2x a day with 1-1-1 vitamin b and water the help with root development and to keep the humidity up and in a week or 2 we will know if I saved the genetics :)

Lesson learned on the GSC... let her completely dry up before watering in the future. :)

All else looks good and hopefully will continue to stay that way.
