I need a good super soil recipe

This is my soil currently.
This is after 7 grows, its alive, you can almost see it breathing, you can smell it.
I can take my hand with fingers straight and push right down into this soil at least as far as my wrist with very little effort, its pillowy soft.
When I pour water on it it disappears just as fast as if I were pouring through a screen door.
100s of worms, 1000s of Beetles Trillions of microbes.

Wow is that from the Oly Mix ?

The Oly Mountain modern mix 2 already comes with it mixed in.
I pull back my mulch and toss it under there and put the mulch back over it.
And sprinkle it among the cover crop.

With the tea simply add it to whatever tea you're making.
Never mind I looked at your earlier post about how you use it as a top dressing

Yes, plus a little Gro-kashi, lots of cover crop and mulch, few sprouted seed teas.
Are you using hay as a mulch ? Can I go buy some from a local farmer to use or is it a certain type of hay

What do you use for a base to add the Oly mix to ? I ordered the BU mix and Cost of Main , some grow stones , Hydrotons and Peat Moss I plan to start the cover crop of clover and get it started in the 20 gal. pots over the winter then in early March germinate some seeds then plant in the 20 gal. pots and put them in my greenhouse. It will be interesting to see how the Oly mix and the Coots mix does side by side. Because I ordered the other stuff to mix a soil I will see how it does compared to the Oly and Coots mix. On the next grow in March I will start a grow journal

You might be getting something confused .
The Oly Mountain Modern Mix 2 is a complete living organic soil, it doesn't need anything and that IS a Clackamas Coots soil recipe.

You must be thinking about the Oly Mountain Fish Compost which is what's in the modern mix 2.
You can buy just bags of the fish compost and add that to some peat moss and rice hulls, pumice, biochar etc.
Or you buy the soil already mixed.

If you mix your own I would use Rice Hulls, Pumice and Precharged Biochar as your aeration.

I use the barley straw from buildasoil.
As long as what you can source locally hasn't been sprayed with any pesticides it should be ok.

I use just a thin layer for added mulch for the worms and once the cover crop is in full swing that becomes 90% of your mulch as you chop and drop it in the pot.

I guess I will buy the hay from build a soil I didn't think about the hay having chemicals on it Great Point ! You have been the most help and I Thank You for all the info. The members here are GREAT :thanks:

I wish I would have known about the Oly Mix and the Coots mix before I bought the other stuff. I think I may be able to add what I bought to mix a soil and use as amendments / compost tea

This is what I was talking about when I said I would need to supply the base...…………....
What You'll Need To Get To Finish The Recipe:

1. Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss: Available in 2.0 Cubic Foot Bales and 3.8 Cubic Foot Bales at Home Depot and most gardening stores. Notice: The 2.0 Bale will fluff up to about 3.0 Cubic Feet and the 3.8 Bale will fluff to about 6 Cubic Feet.

2. High Quality Compost or Worm Castings: Search for local compost or castings on craigslist or order some here on our website.

3. Aeration Amendment: Something to aerate the soil like perlite does in normal potting mix. We like to use Pumice and Rice hulls but you can use whatever is available to you including perlite, rice hulls, lava rock, pumice etc.

You'll notice there isn't any High P ingredient like Soft Rock Phosphate or Fish Bone Meal and after speaking with Coot about this I realized a few things. This Kit has many ingredients that contain Phosphorous at normal levels which will not be harmful to Mycorrhizal fungi. High P amendments can have a negative effect on the soil Mycorrhizal life, for this reason Coot recommends using this recipe.

Mix and then let sit for 1-2 weeks before planting.

Yep, you can make your own Oly Mountain modern mix 2 from that nutrient kit, just add the peat moss, aeration, and some comfrey and the Oly fish compost.

I also ordered the Oly Mountain mix so it should have the base products pre added ????
If by "Oly Mountain mix" you are referring to their "Living Soil" modern mix 2 soil then yes it is ready to just add to the pot and plant a seed.
All you need to add to it for a Living Organic Soil No-till is inoculate with mycorrhazae, start a cover crop and add worms.
Here is the info on it straight from buildasoil.

The FFOF is a complete soil on it's own with it's own nutrients.
The fish compost is what you need to add to the base which is basically peat moss in order to make the living soil.
Using FFOF is mostly just adding more base material and a lot of different nutrients that are already balanced for around 6.5 pH.

Just follow the recipe on the Nutrient Kit

The Fish Compost is excellent, probably the best compost you can buy, aged 2 years.

Where do you get the comfrey from ?
You would need to grow it if you make your own mix.
If you plant any around your house make sure it's in a spot that you want Comfrey to grow for the rest of your life because its virtually impossible to get rid of once its established.

It already comes in the Living Organic Soil Oly Mountain Modern Mix 2 soil.
