How To Make Concentrated Cannabis Oil

Got my daytime oil made today...got a little over 7ml for 2 oz. Turned out pretty good for a newbie. My plan is to start dosing tonight. I hope I get better sleep than I'm used to. Wish me luck with the tacking. I think I'm going to need it!

Your welcome Smokey.

Congrats on the oil C. Sprite. That's a great yield too.

I'm making some sleepy oil tonight out of 3oz of Vanilla Kush. I was going to reflux (hot wash), but chickened out. I don't have enough to experiment. I'm thinking of trying to build the reclaim still with the tall column that Skunk Pharm designed. Pipe dream probably.

Motoco (or anyone), are you familiar with Bad Kat? She's spoke with Rick at the World Cannabis Summit.

Hey canjunbro,

No I haven't Brother. Its not that I wouldn't like to keep up, but honestly I'm not missing much. This is working out so well and people I help are healing/treating so fast of late not much I need to change, well as far as 'tacking' goes. The oil? Again I am so well versed on the 'simple' method (RS method, only I just added the flower freeze and 0 alcohol) the oil is a quality product as is. That being said I'm always game for improvement, just not finding anything that makes me want to change. I do however want to make a good shatter for vaping at night though. Nothing like the taste of a 'sweet' flower. We will touch bases soon though, I do have a couple of questions for you like doing two decarbs. I thought I ask this a few post ago, but, apparently got so busy I didn't hit 'post quick reply'. Good to hear the nighttime is close!
Love you Brother, yea I said it, lol.
Peace,
Motoco

Hi C Sprite,

I had no doubts about your daytime oil, lol. Good luck on the dosing.

I referenced her because of her recent work with the Phoenix Tears folks. Apparently, she's "well known", but I've only heard of her edibles on another site.
I wondered if you'd heard of what the deal is with her.

You know I don't doubt your oil, methods, etc. bro. I'm living proof of it all.

Personally, I want to start reclaiming more Everclear. I can get it cheap, but it's still a lil pricey. I hour that stuff as much as possible.

Love you too brother. Tell Mo hi from us.

Good Day Brother, yea, a lot of folks are well known in the Industry to be sure. When I see the 'edibles' part I've seen enough :). As of late Mo and I have been contacted quite often to get into the 'arena' with our knowledge of the oil. All of them sounded very financial rewarding and God knows we could use it, but it always goes south because they just want to use 'trim/shake' for the oil. They cannot wrap their head around using flowers for this? Always an after thought. Only if they knew :). Please, always keep me updated though, I'm not narrowed minded, lol, promise.

Best to you and S Brother!

LOL...switching to 'high'. I set mine at 4. It really depends on the ambient temperature. On a hot day for example 3.5 works. What I love about this little rig the rheostat has an audible 'click' when its on, off. Don't forget after your cookdown save an ounce-two carrier, pour it into the cooker, mix with a spatula (silicone/like) and pour that into your ss cup also. It can collect and extra .05-1.0 gram. Make sure to keep the solvent at least an inch from the top. If it gets to 'wavy' lower the temp and when it settles kick it back up. If your doing a larger run, have it all filtered and as it cooks down, keep adding until its gone. You know the rest my friend. Great choice, I love this little rig.

Bought the Cuisineart Fondue maker this am.
Hmmm. What temp to we want to get rid of the solvent with? I'm used to just simply switching to "high" (no pun intended).

Hey Smokes,

I forgot to mention; on cleaning your equipment. Lets say I'm starting my run of night-time first I don't clean anything even if my next run is daytime. But, if I'm running daytime first I always clean my gear so NO sativa bleeds into the nighttime. A couple of percentages of sativa in the nighttime can keep those wheels turning at night. Just a note Bro.

Hey Motoco!

I had to read it back to make sure I included it but yes my final filtering is with a coffee filter! Lol, I noticed the wrong words though. poor/pour & due/do... Come warmer weather I will go back and try the mash and stir method.

That's a good catch on making a daytime run before the nightime without cleaning. I woofed through my Indica catching up on some sleep a little bit back so no worries at the moment. I'm pretty much am just making the 2:1 right now. I do plan on taking Hikers advice though and I am going to start making strain specific oil and do the blending afterwards from now on I think.

Have a good one brother!

Hi Folks,

Vacation time for some R&R, need to get re-motivated if I can.

Peace

Get your R & R. It is well deserved. You have been carrying a very heavy load with this site and the work you do in your community. I am simply amazed that you have kept it up this long. You and MO are an inspiration to me and I am now starting my journey to help my family and friends. Cancer is an epidemic as we know and I hear of someone else dx about every week. I wish I could help them all but I can't. I will do the best I can do. I want to thank you again for your hard work and dedication to this thread and topic. You know what you have done for me and my husband. You breathed new life into us and gave us the abiltly to improve our quality of life. You are a passionaIte man and I hope you and MO can take a break and enjoy each other and your family.
Take care of yourself first my friend. Please. Give MO a hug for me. And I mean a BIG hug.

:peace:

Your the second person I heard (I think) that does this in the freezer. Scratch that, I think it was Hiker and he just did it outside in some cold weather :)

yep, that was me. It was ~10F when I made my last batch. It'll still be good oil making weather here for another month or so!

I'm thinking of trying to build the reclaim still with the tall column that Skunk Pharm designed. Pipe dream probably.

to recover the ethanol? I don't think you need that level of equipment for this solvent. I got one of the home distillers. It's made for water, but it does the alcohol fine. With some practice, I think you can recover 80% or maybe 90%! I got 70-75% back and I spilled some :blalol:

I had forgotten all about the distiller you got. I bet that would be great.
My issue is quantity. There's about to be lots of it. I will run out of funds pretty quick with the Everclear. In fact, I'll run out of carrier before flowers.
We'll be processing close to 3 lbs. in Feb. (not my flowers btw). I'm making the entire batch, but frankly not getting fully reimbursed, so I need to pinch pennies where I can.
For my personal 710, I may pick up that distiller you have for small batches.

Do you mind reposting the model you got? I'm sorry, but I've looked & it must be buried by now.

P.S. I'm making red oil this weekend. Red as in color. The flowers are from a purple strain.

Pretty plant. My 1st purple.

That is beautiful cajun!! I have a purple I will be harvesting soon and the buds are now turning purple. Almost black leaves. So cool.

I don't know the model of my distiller. I got lucky. We were downtown with some friends. The local merchants were having some sort of sale before the holidays. We were in one of the second hand stores and I saw what looked like one of these machines. Turned out to be just what I thought. They asked $50, my wife talked them down to $40.

I think it's a Megahome, but maybe an earlier model. It looks pretty much identical.
I don't think you need the ones that use a lower temp for alcohol. I think these are for people trying to make the alcohol, not remove it from the solute. They are separating alcohol from water. If we do our wash quickly under the right conditions, we shouldn't have any water in our solution.

Hiker is correct! The temperature of the reclaim does not matter as we are pulling a more pure carrier. I can control mine to whatever I want and I still run it around 220-225f because I'm antsy! <--- Canna :)

wildjim, I see no reason why it wouldn't, specially if Hiker is having good results with his older model. I will have to defer to him though as I was a little iffy about plugging something in with 190 in it. However, it does say it has a 1 gallon capacity so yes, it should hold enough carrier for an ounce no problem. I believe a little while back another member purchased a countertop unit as well. Found the links for you if you would like to review.
