How To Make Concentrated Cannabis Oil

Hi wj, thank you for your concerns, much appreciated. Listen, we are still good on our plan. Also your in great hands with canjuncelt or both. Good thinking on the curing process as rushing just leads to mistakes. We will be in touch.

Take care,

Motoco

Motoco, So sorry your health issues are causing you such difficulty. Thank you so much for your personal attention to my issues. I'm sorry to see you go. I will be trying to make the oil in about three weeks. Harvested today and don't want to hurry the drying and curing to make my medicine. I will talk to the doctor about the blood thinner and get off of it asap. Thanks for all your help and if you want you can email me whenever you just want to chat.

Hi there 420 Motoco! Thanks for the write up! I have a question I was hoping you or someone may be able to help me out with. Opinions are absolutely welcome as well. I did do several searches through a few different threads, came up empty and thought it be best here.

Unfortunetly I had some moldy colas through the past rainy/humid days, some beautiful organic bubba kush. I packed a full size mason jar pressing down some to fit it all so I am guessing 3-4+ oz, froze everything up including the 91% iso used for and prior to the extraction. I believe I shook this for about 5+ minutes or so before straining. I did use heat to cook of the solvent (boiling bath) as this was mostly done for testing purposes. Filtered through coffee filter and left with a very dank smelling (just like the bud), somewhat dark but transparent oil. I tried to include two pics but I uploaded them to the Kief, Hash & Extracts category but then they dissapeared including the whole gallery for that item. It never gave me the process box that was mentioned in the photo tutorial though. lulz

So now the questions. Will the iso effectively neutrilize anything negative from the mold? (classic bud mold) Can I utilize this oil for topical creams/lotions and such? If it is usable is there anything that would be best avoided when using? (ie:don't use on wounds, common sense sorta things)

Again not specifically to you 420 Motoco if anyone can offer assistance that would be great! Looking to use all of it for a rather strong pain cream! Thanks in advance...

I can already tell there is gonna be lots of valuable information in here for me to read as well! :thumb:

EDIT: User error! :cheesygrinsmiley:

Also want to note that I waited for my bubba to really amber up as well!

Hi Motoco,

I was wondering if you can do some direct help with a friend of mine?
He has late stage leukemia and I am trying my hardest to help/persuade him to get on the oil. He is a very well known and respected actor and has given many people happiness.

Warmest

John

Hi Whitebeach

If you, or with help, can convince your friend to try it, I bet you could get the oil donated in return for testimonial of some kind. Depending on where they live, there might be a local grower willing to 'adopt' them as a patient. If they happen to be in LA for example, I suspect any of the dispensaries there would love to get an endorsement from a well known actor. I know it seems like 'selling out', but doesn't it really help everyone? Your friend get's improved health, the dispensary gets a little recognition for their generosity, AND it gets the message out which could save millions of people!

I would be glad to help him no matter who or what.

Hi SmokesDaKush,

If you would of followed my 'making the concentrate' instructions you would be good to go, lolol.

No worries Brother. When you cooked down the concentrate you should of decarbed right afterwards which is finished at 250d. Mold exposed to 150 d for two hours kills the bacteria, etc. Shaking in the jar for 5 minutes isn't like doing a quick wash crushing the buds up. No matter now. Finish the decarb and your oil is good to go. Another note. ISO 91 proof has quite a bit of water in it so the decarb has to be at least boiling temp to remove it. Next time it would be much better just to get 192 proof/96 proof/volume Spirytus, better pull and safe to consume if a boo boo happens. Hope this helps

Good news. Put your concentrate in a ss steal measuring cup. Use a coffee warmer, plate warmer etc. and put the cup on it. When the bubbles completely stop (sometimes it can take a while 5-10 hours depending on ambient temperture) your decarb will be done correctly. Just cooking off the solvent you only got up to 170-175d approximately so it wasn't fully decarbed anyway.

When its done it will be completely safe as a topical/dosing treatment.

Motoco, I know you said you were taking a break from the thread, but you are still posting... and I have a question for you or anyone else that understands this process...

I'd like to recap my understanding of how to make the oil. I understand the issue with the vapors and ventilation. I'm not going to mention that aspect.

Freeze the alcohol, buds, and all tools/containers etc
Put the buds into a cylindrical shaped container, such as a pitcher. Pour some cold alcohol over it, and start smashing it up.
Pour that alcohol off into one of the already waiting filters.
Add more alcohol, crush again, pour off.
Do three washes.

Now I have my alcohol with the oil dissolved and I want to use a crock pot or rice cooker to boil off that solvent at ~170-180F until most of the bubbles are gone.
Next, I transfer the oil to the stainless cup, add a little water, and cook at a temp of ~220F until the bubbles stop.
Once I've boiled off the water, I put it into the syringe.

I've been going over this in my head over and over and it seems pretty simple and I already everything I need here at home.

Hi Hiker, yes I'm still posting just a lot less especially at one time.

Sounds like your ready to go on the oil. You made it simple, and it is. A note; I like going to about 240-245. When I start the decarb, 180 for about 5-10 min., then kick it up to 210 for a few minutes then to 240d. Another words just don't start at 220. That way if any alcohol is left that burns off first, then the water at 212 or so then the decarb starts. When it quits moving (after the water is burned off it may stop moving...keep going; its not fully decarbed, then its time to syringe.

Thanks for helping me see the detail I was missing! :Namaste:

I was thinking about vaporizing off the second solvent, water. I guess it hadn't sunk in that it was the decarb process as well.

I've gotten pretty good at making MJ infused butter and coconut oil. I've been making mostly butter lately because it seems to cook better. My wife won't use them. She doesn't like being 'high'. I like the pain relieving effects of medibles, but they have too much "couch lock". Sure, fun sometimes, but it's a pain when you need to work in the garden and all you want to do is sit on a chair.

Anyway, my hope is that my wife and I can both gain the benefits of the medicine without the sedative affects. Do you think I can judge my strains for day/night use based on smoking? I know which of my strains are a more "up" high and which are couch lock (sativa hybrids and purer indicas respectively).

I'll take pics and report back my results. I'm a little OCD/anal so I'll have plenty of numbers to share  Harvest starts this weekend, but it will be at least 2 weeks before I could try making a batch.

oh ya... one last clarification...
I want dry material, right?
If I have fresh frozen trim intended for ice water hash, I probably don't wanna use that huh? :blalol:

I suppose I did leave a few details out. I've been meaning to ask for some time now as I made this awhile back and have just been sitting on it. This was done in a water bath stretched out through two days so it was definitely subject to the 150d for two hours. I definitely didn't want to crush them as I preferred to have the jar sealed due to the mold. I guess I didn't decarb because I was originally not using and then when I thought of it I figured maybe it didn't need decarbed for a topical. Anyhow after reading your reply and to be the safest with it as possible, I followed your recommendations and ran it in an oil bath at 250d. I only saw a few little bubbles.

As I said I originally did this for testing purposes to see how clean it would come out and also testing the 91 iso, I never had intentions of using any of it. Also should note that all stores around here have pulled anything higher then 91% iso off the shelves. I have never heard of Spirytus but I would love to get my hands on it if it was available locally but doubtful. The best I can get is 151 proof/75.5% ABV everclear.

I use the 151 daily now to make fresh oil doses for oral consumption twice daily if I can keep up with my usage. The 151 is a pain to work with so I have been kief'n trim and buds and then making my oil that way. This way I use way less everclear as it gets pricey after awhile and pull way less contaminants. I really need to come up with a better solution but it's the best I have available to me at the moment.

That brings up another question you may have some knowledge on. Do you think I am shorting myself by making my oil with hash versus whole plant material?

Thanks again for the help Motoco! That little bit of ocd was holding me back because I just kept second guessing the mold. I do remember googling what temps would kill it but as usual there were so many contradicting statements out there. Much obliged!

:thanks:

Hi SmokesDaKush,
I can't buy spirytus here either and am also stuck with Everclear locally @ $25.00 per 750 ML bottle. I did find a place online that will ship to my area, they have a list of states that they do not ship to when you click on FAQ's at the site.
Not sure where you are located, but thought I would post it to you anyway:

Buy Polmos Polmos Vodka Spirytus 192@ online for less at Wine Chateau

Not sure if that link will be allowed or not, we'll see. LOL

Thanks Cannafan! Bookmarked!

In MI so it's acceptable for shipping according to them. I'm not sure if I fancy ordering online but I suppose you do what you must. I'd love to get a distiller of some sort if I made that obligation that way I'm not constantly ordering. lol

Hey, a fellow Michigander! They do ship here.

No worries I suffer from OCD myself, lol. At least that is what I've been told. When it comes to concentrated oil I only use flowers. Everything else is off topic for me. I work in reverse; I make the best concentrate from the flower, then if I need a topical I blend from the pure and mix with grape seed oil to make it more pliable (spreads easier) . Edibles is off topic to me also. Once you do the oil correctly with the proper strains in place, edibles, eating the concentrate or smoking during the day is counter productive to the 'wellness' feeling. That being said 'vaping' flower is needed in some cases to increase appetite when needed and only one 'toke' is needed. Even using Indica at night the proper way is to 'tack'. Getting the concentrate to the CB1 receptors first is the proper way to heal no matter the application (suppositories, etc.) When eating edibles, smoking, wax, c02 is like man-made meds which is only a temporary fix and with certain meds can be counter productive and dangerous. Of course its natural and is safe going through your system compared to man-made meds. Certainly not saying leaves, shake, etc. doesn't have any healing properties, I just don't use them myself as well as my wife and patients I help, same with horses, dogs, etc. I do give my trim, leaves, etc. to some folks using it to make a 'wash' for their horses. They say the love it as a bath. But their tumors, etc. is healed with the flower extract only. Hope this helps.

Many thanks to the 'crew' helping me out. It is much appreciated and helps me heal though the issues I'm having. You all know who you are. God bless you all :circle-of-love:

Absolutely helps Motoco! I typically cheat and just blend my oil into pre-made hemp based products mostly balms n such. I have yet to start with the tacking procedure but I plan on doing so. This was the most interesting thing I found in here as I have never heard of it before now. Only thing I suppose I would like to get before starting is a better solvent such as you suggested. It should be farely easy for me as I can easily consume over a gram of oil a day. I typically have to take a tolerance break and usually do so when I reach 1.5 to 2 grams a day. My ocd kicks in a little because I am burning through my flowers and the fear of running out kicks in. So usually a week or two break allows me to get under a gram daily for a few.

I will be completely honest Motoco, I rather enjoy the feelings from eating it and was under the impression that I could have the best of both worlds. Something about it just makes me feel normal as i would say. Motivated, happy, calm, less pain and just overall better quality feeling of life.

I saw your previous comment and I apologize if my questions came through at a wrong time or if I missed a mention of you relaxing up a bit in here. Your time is very much appreciated and best of luck to you with your personal endeavors.
