Homer's Legal 4-Plant Max Perpetual Minimalist Garden In Ontario

Yes, the seed situation is a confounding mystery.

Thanks, I am glad I didn't give up on it too. I am praying it makes it till the end because that will tell me if they are worth the trouble if that one gives me a few ounces to test for quality. I was planning on trying to make S1's from Katsu's seeds but I don't want to use that plant because it is so persnickety about humidity.

With the luck I have been having with those seeds the sickly one will be the only plant I get. No problem, lots of strains to try if all fails with this.

My timelapse video of my plants has been kind of a fiasco because I kept thinking my P98 was not going to make it so I kind of lost interest in it and even stopped for a few weeks but now that I have a humidifier going they are going gangbusters again so I have resumed the video.

I will have a 2-week gap but what the heck. I thought I posted a vid of the whole veg stage that I reduced down to about 2 minutes but it is actually 51 minutes. I don't expect anyone to watch it all but it is pretty interesting to watch the plant move at the original 1:2000 rate (one frame every 40 seconds) this is filmed at because it makes the plant seem truly alive. About one third through the vid seems best if anyone would like to fast forward.

What a beautiful dance.

This is an update on my now comical P98 saga. The first seed of P98 I tried to start didn’t even crack after five days of soaking in a wet paper towel so figuring it was a dud I threw it out. But then I was told the shells can be hard so they can take quite a while to start so I tried another one.

The second one cracked after about a week and I planted it on the 11th day even though I wasn’t very confident about it because it only had a tiny taproot that didn’t seem to be growing much. It never came up.

The next one I don’t remember how long exactly it took to spout a root but I think it was over a week but I planted it and it came up and grew vigorously till after a few weeks when it started getting canoe curled leaves and stunted growth. With more humidity, it seems pretty healthy in flower now a few weeks but it is a rut in size next to the Dr. Seeds 1:20 I started it with.

So I tried two more P98 seeds for my next crop and they both had mini cracks from shipping not visible by eye so they were not good. I then put two more on 11 days ago and one has done nothing but the other had a tiny taproot after 4 days but now after 11 days it doesn’t seem much different. Anyone think it will survive??

So today I was thinking I should take some cuttings from the sickly P98 because I have gone through 7 seeds and it is my only success, if you can call it that, but since I only have about 7 seeds left, I think ,of the P98’s I may not get any of them to sprout so today I took the cuttings. Since they are clones from a common mother I am going to do a test with one just getting MC and the other MC and BE and SC and KE and a silica additive. I am thinking of the exact recipe and will post for suggestions.

Now that I have lots of stock I am not overly concerned about my many P98 failures other than it is more fun to actually grow weed than have dud seeds but what does have me intrigued is the odd mystery of it. Lots of people have grown this breeder’s P98’s here and I don’t want to say anything bad about him because in my dealings with him he was a super guy but everyone but me seems to be having luck with his seeds.

But adding to the mystery, do to a long story I won’t go into, I have received 3 different shipments of his seeds so it isn’t like I just got a bad batch. Really weird. The logical conclusion is I don’t know what I am doing but prior to this other than when I first started it is pretty rare for me to have any seeds that don’t succeed? Just grateful to have a bit of a stockpile.

Oh, and since my basement is only between 72 to 75F lately I put a heating pad under the seeds keeping them around 80F to no improvement.

Have you ever tried just putting the seed in water? I like to start them floating in some water until they sink. Then I put them in the paper towels. But sometimes they go ahead and crack and shoot the tap root out while in the cup of water. I use a small nug jar or shot glass and sit it on top of my dvr to keep it slightly warm. I’ve lost seeds to the heat though when putting my paper towels on there. Just a thought of maybe an alternate way to germinate these.

Hello Mr. Magoo. Actually, I put all my seeds in water until they crack or 48 hrs, whichever comes first. Usually, with most seeds, I don't even use the paper towel method because within 48 hrs most seeds crack and get a hint of a taproot and go straight into soil but these P98's are a totally different story. Appreciate the input anyway.

Deleted due to obnoxious content.

I appreciate the input 780 but I checked them out and they didn't have any Gorilla Glue #4 fem.

My frustration is that in my younger years I was a chronic smoker going through about an ounce a week for more than a decade so I do know what killer weed is and mine so far isn't. My bud is good but not killer and grow after grow I am not getting there and I know genetics is my problem.

Take a look at @Dutchman1990's GG#4...

And then my Sensi NL...

My bud is decent and does the job but it does not have that super trich bag appeal his does and people really love that. And no matter what I have grown I am in the minors. So even though Katsu's seeds again not popping has set me back weeks I would rather wait longer and get some killer genetics so I don't have another ok grow. Don't listen to me because I am losing it and should have something to eat.

Note to self; no more hangry postings. Now that I am well-fed and can think somewhat rationally I agree that having an eviro dialed right in would probably affect the bud appeal but I can't help thinking the trich amount wouldn't be that dependent on it? Just my feeling but I think I can do better with more resinous strains. Dr. Seeds has a GG4 so I may order them online. Anyway, sorry again for ranting.

Don't worry about it Homer. I've seen a fair number of members complaining about their seeds lately. I've had good luck with Dr. Seeds. I dropped three Granddaddy Purples from them, and they all made it to harvest.

Cant see a better place to rant than through online forums...maybe ur partner..or pet fish?

Let me know how GG#4 sourcing works out. I loved that smoke and would be one id consider buying as well

Thanks, Old Salt. I have a 1:20 CBD strain of Dr. Seeds in about the 3rd week of flower and it is pretty healthy and they are in Canada so I think I will order their Gorilla Glue #4 and Bubba Kush. Pretending having 6 of 7 of Katsu's seeds being duds and the plant that survived being an unhealthy runt wasn't bothering me wasn't the best idea because today I lost it, lol.

Will do. Just ordered it and expect it to arrive next week.

My experience and research has led me to believe that if you want the best genetics of a certain strain then you need to get them from the source of that strain if possible. I’m pretty sure the Dutch was growing a clone of GG4. It came from an outstanding specimen. I don’t really know where would be a good source for seeds of that strain as it was clone only in the beginning. I’m always wary of the big name strains that can be found at a bunch of different seed banks from different breeders. Not saying they aren’t good just that who knows. Lol. Did they just breed 2 of the same parent strains together and call it gorilla glue? My first grow was blue dream here at the mag and it was from 420. It was good but I’ve seen much better than mine from Humboldt seed organization. I do like the S1 seeds that certain breeders put out. I know they have some of the best cuts of those strains so I know there is great possibilities from the seeds. If you are just looking for a lot of trichomes then there are a lot of great breeders out there that have a lot of frosty strains. Thugpug comes to mind and they are reasonably priced as well. But there are a bunch.
