Homer's Legal 4-Plant Max Perpetual Minimalist Garden In Ontario

full
Thanks, Old McSalt. I didn't even know it was today. Happy St. Patties day to you too.

Right on schedule, I am getting my usual leaf die-off. I am exactly 3 weeks into flower and I am getting the same lower leaf yellowing and blackening as per usual despite adding BE and SC with extra P and K starting about 1.5 weeks ago.

I am giving 5.7g/gal MC up from 5.5 the previous watering. I have been giving .5g/gal of BE and SC for about the last 2 weeks. My last grow I tried adding cal/mag for one plant so I know that isn't the problem as it didn't make a significant difference. And now adding BE and SC I can't see it being a P or K deficiency. And having such conservative numbers I can't see it being a lockout?

I honestly have no idea what to try next. In the past, I have also tried less and more MC with the same result. I am beginning to believe MC has a deficiency because no matter how I use it I get the same yellowing and blotchy leaves. Any theories or recommendations welcome.

The following are all lower leaves.

This is actually an upper leaf showing stress already.

I'm wondering if it's due to three weeks of rapid growth. The plant may be cannibalizing the bottom leaves to feed the new growth at the top. The root system may not have been able to keep up.

How were the root balls of your previous grows? Were the pots completely filled?

More MC? You are underfeeding them the basic nutrients (in an attempt to make headroom for the supplements?).

I read @Emilya's whole journal and if I understand her properly she believes a lot of the problems with MC is from lockout from using too much MC so I am trying to be conservative with it. Also, I am only into week 3 of flower and the MC website says to only go up to 6g/gal so I was going to get up to that range when I am at weeks 5 and 6 when nute demand is highest. And yes I am also being conservative with the MC because I am also using supplements. In hindsight, I wish I would have tried only MC conservatively.

Your guess is as good as mine Old Salt. I am just guessing but I would think if a plant is being given the proper nutes that it wouldn't have to cannibalize itself but who knows because there isn't even any consensus if it is natural for a plant to yellow in its later stages or not.

I'm not sure you will always get the best advice from a single source, so it's good to ask more than one grower and get a consensus. And it's not too late to go with MC alone. Drop the supplements and bump the MC!

I like to think I am willing to listen to anyone who can help. Good point about going with MC alone but in retrospect that is what I have done during my last few grows using a little and a lot with the same effects every time. I really thought the supplements with P and K would help so now I have no idea. Like my OG Kush grow I was up to 8g/gal with the same problems and this one very conservative with the same problem.

Nobody has shown that they have, and I doubt you will get any guidance from the manufacturer. "Please don't buy these!" doesn't sound like it's good for the bottom line :).

They don't outright say "Please don't buy these!" but they are honest enough to say MC is good enough alone so I appreciate that.

Some say that using MC and even small amounts of BE and SC can cause lockouts and I did start them a little early so I think I will try omitting them but maybe leaving the MC the same for now. I appreciate the input but it isn't an emergency because I will get to the end with good harvest results if the past is any indication but I just don't think plants should be dropping leaves 3 weeks into flower. Thanks for the input. I am going to keep trying to solve this.

On a more positive note, my Bubba Kush from Dr. Seeds after only about 16 hrs already has a tap root started. Slightly better performance than the last breeder's Bubba Kush I tried that took 11 days for the same progress and then nothing.

My root balls pretty much pack my pots so much I have to fight to get them out of the pot when done. Sorry, I overlooked that part of your post Old Salt.

As OldSalt was mentioning, it's also possible that your plants bigger than the root system can handle in a pot that size. Something's gotta give, and it's might be the leaves.

Yes, that has been mentioned before and could be the problem because my plant is pretty huge for the pot it is in. Good thinking guys.

On a lighter note I picked up some jello and pudding cups when I went grocery shopping and they didn't seem to have almost any sweetness so I thought I was losing my taste buds but looking at the packaging today they are reduced sugar variety, lol.

Phewf, that was close! At least you still have your eyesight :).
I do wear glasses but yes I can see!!!

I think you guys may be on to something with the pot size. That is a five-gallon, think I will get some tens because seven doesn't seem to be much of a difference.

That plant in a 5 gallon pot is considered torture in some provinces!
Lol... I respect you knowing we don't live in states. You are quite the fart smeller. Oops... typo, smart feller.
