HighTechRasta's 1000W China LED COCO 4x3 2in1 Tent Perpetual SCROG With BruceBanner & Bagseed

Haven't put the light in yet. Taking a break for a bit. Have autoimmune disease causing mobility issues,
need to rest a while. So, gonna tell you all about my next move...

I week or so ago, I caused some inadvertent ruckus in an old @Pennywise thread.
Had to do with a forgotten joke about a strain cross between
"Lebanese Shit" and "Cheese Dick", one can only imagine how quickly
it got misinterpreted and outta hand for a few posts. Well, it got sorted out.

What lead me to the thread was, looking for info on doing a
recirculating coco setup. Info was not had. The grow took a new direction
despite the title remaining the same in some places. (too much to explain)

Well, now I'm gonna give it a go!
I will be raising my scrog frame 6in,
Putting in a 6in DIY PVC flood tray stand,
Putting in a 2ft x 2ft flood tray
That tray will drain to a "condensate pump"
which will put my runoff back into
A 38L/18gal Resevoir, that will contain
air stone
80gph stir pump
130gph feed pump

It's all been ordered and will have it all by Friday.

Who was it that said:

"Drain to waste is for Soil Growers,
unless you're a Trust-fund Baby"
:nomo:

BTW, the friggin 2x2 tray was brutal to source!
I'm pretty sure there's just the one company that made one
and... it's currently on clearance/discontinued. I got one though!
It's a shame, what does one do when working with a 3x3 tent,
a standard 3x3 tray will not fit...

I used a 4x4 flood table on a stand about 2' tall. I set it up for flood and drain and allowed the water to flow back into the rez. Was actually very stable ph wise.

I'd have to look around, I'll post if I find a good one. It's almost going to be a DIY set up.
Thanks, I know what it's like hunting through the posts here
So much to see, so many informative distractions!
I'm all about DIY!

What are the reasons the few don't run this setup anymore,
were there any problems, or they/you just moved on?

Exactly what I'm aiming to do.
But, going real low profile with the condensate pump setup.
I have noticed the Ph and PPM are pretty predictable in my runoff now
That's partly what makes me think this can be done.
Read some old threads with info from VillageIdiot
and intend to feed based on changes in ph and PPM in the rez

Back to work/hobby...
:ganjamon:

How often should I water?
Should I water in the dark periods?

For me, in potted rockwool, I water once daily till about the 2nd - 3rd week of bloom, then bump it up to twice daily till a bit past half way through bloom and increase again to 3 times daily. I never feed in the dark hours, but for some systems you don't have a choice. For me though, I drench the media, then give it the full day to dry out. If after 24 hours the pot is still heavy (in veg), I skip another day of feeding. The point is to encourage the roots to grow in search of food and drink. If the media is always saturated, that process will take forever. Once you have vigorous root growth, you'll also have vigorous canopy development which translates to bigger yields.

Skybound... So, you water your rockwool almost like it's dirt.
I'm growing in coco and word is, you're not supposed to let it dry.
I ended up with a drip system that's currently watering every 3hrs!
Now moving to a drip with flood table and re-circulating back to a rez.

I need to know how often I should water with the new setup.
All I see is... treat coco like Hydroponics.
Seems the more I do, the better the coco performs...

:hmmmm:

RW is super forgiving. I've had timer mishaps that didn't feed plants in bloom for days and the RW has frequently dried to the weight of that foam stuff used with fake flower bouquets.

From what I've read about coco, you're pretty spot on in that
  • it can't be allowed to dry out,
  • that it holds onto calcium and is why it needs to be prepped with calmag before using,
  • and when feeding, water till about 10% of the water in volume runs out the bottom, but as far as I know, that's for drain to waste.
I can only presume that you'll have to learn the rate that the media loses water to best know when to add more. Coco isn't as forgiving as rockwool so you'll have to be more vigilant and attentive to details. Seek out other coco growers to follow and either copy their methods, or take ideas from them that you can implement in your space.

So...

Few pages back,
I was pretty aggressive in my stating
"There will be No RO in this place"
Well, gonna have to eat my words on that one!
:cough:
My tap water comes out @ 320PPM.
I feed my seedlings @ 150PPM
This has meant trips to the store
for distilled water jugs @ $1 for 4L jug
Also, when I'm feeding @ like 500PPM
and using the tap water, @ 320PPM
I'm losing like 66% of my space!
My hotel has 500 rooms and
320 of 'em are filled with Unknown Squatters!
What In The Actual F... right?
:thedoubletake: :hmmmm:
Well, just like the lack of thermal paste on my new light
I can't live with the Squatters,
Knowing I can have them easily evicted
Giving me full control of my hotel
Off to see the Wizard...
The wonderful Wizard of Zon!

New 5 stage RO system
with 32ft hose & 25pc connector set
Ordered!
:thumb:
I will be using the extras to
run a line right to the grow area...

If your water is that hard, it's going to clog up the RO stages in no time. Do invest in 1 or 2 prefilters from any of the big box home improvement centers. Those 1 stage filters do pretty well in removing contaminants from the water w/o needing to have a waste water line like an RO unit has. The cheaper one stage filters will prolong the RO filters and the one stage filters will also be stocked in the store you buy the unit from.

Thanks Skybound! The kinda Input I thrive on...:p

So, you're saying I need a pre-filter,
ahead of the RO pre-filters.
What type should I get?
Will this effect water pressure,
Will there be enough for this to work?
Going to Home Depot for the extra filter,
Got the RO from the Zon...
I like the idea of extending the life!

Something like this. I'd aim for the cheapest, but I guess the most important factor is which model do they stock replacement filters for. This prefilter will take all of the hard punches and will likely be the first casualty in the battle, but it will greatly prolong the life of your RO filters. Heck, the pre-filter may even lower your EC enough to not use the RO, your choice though.
