HID Grow - Revenge of the Kittens

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

thanks bro, I just need to get organized, but I feel I'm pretty much there. I'm debating on which T5 to get.. I think I made up my mind though on the 2ft compact t5. It pumps out 110 watts @ 10,000 lumens. I think that will be enough for clones and a mom or two.

Sorry for the lack of pics still.. My stoner ass keeps forgetting to grab batteries before I leave work lol. I'll grab some now so I can snap some over the weekend or something. These plants are beautiful, the nicest ones I've grown to date.

There is however one problem with one plant that has been showing since it was a baby.. The leaves are discolored slightly, more like a light green spots like they're losing color.. I thought it would go away when I transplanted, but it is still happening.. It doesn't affect the plant growth at all though, it's actually the biggest one I have now. It will make sense when I throw some pics up. Maybe you guys can diagnose my problem. it happens on the oldest leaves first. The new leaves don't show it for about a week. I gave them MG all purpose during veg and tiger bloom for the past week every other feeding.. They're loving the nutes, there is no purple stems at all, something I've never accomplished in all of my grows, so I'm proud of that. These plants look like something you would see in a pro's garden. Couldn't have done it without everyone here at 420. Even you Spike, we're both new growers but I learn from you every time I swing by your journal

stay high bro

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

So, I made some brownies last night with all my left over trim. I ended up using ~3oz trim ground up in a coffee grinder and 2 cups of oil, let it simmer for 4 hours in the crock pot on low, stirring occasionally.. It made my house smell horrible, like i was cooking grass clippings. After the 4 hours, I ran it all through coffee filters into a jar.. After that I squeezed the leftover herb in the filter to get the remaining oil out of it. Once in the jar I made the brownies as normal. I made an 8x8 set and cut them into 1x1 squares.

Onto the eating part.. This is where it gets fun.

I ate 2 squares and waited about 20 minutes to see if i felt anything.. All I could feel was a slight tingling in my hands, which I thought may have been from handling the oil and it absorbing through my skin.. I thought nothing of it, didn't really feel stoned (Mind you I had only smoked 2 bowls that day and was no longer stoned when I ate these). I ate another square, waited another half an hour and ate another as I still wasn't feeling anything. So, I have a 2x2 square down, not too much, and I decide the brownies were a flop and move on with my day..

All of a sudden, about 2 hours after eating the first brownie, my girl comes up to me and says "I feel pretty stoned" I then thought to myself and realized i too was rocked. From then on, it was a 5hr ride until I went to bed. each hour passing, I felt like it was intensified. I don't really get the munchies anymore, but after eating these I was eating everything in sight. I was also in super energy mode and cleaned my entire house and my girl rearranged our living room and bathed the cats hahaha. Awesome stuff.

Anyway, I'm very happy with the outcome. You can't really taste the herb, it tastes very slightly of dead leaf matter, so I think next time I'm going to use some bud and see how it affects the taste.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

hey GMT, do you see hermies pop up by fucked up light cycles? I'm trying to see if it's worth salvaging this one plant. It's a beautiful plant, growing almost the best of the 4 and I noticed last night along with the hairs, there are balls at id say 60% of the bud sites.. I'm thinking it's from pulling the plants in and out of the room every day and possible light leaks or small periods of light from someone being down there for a couple of minutes.. It's the only plant thats throwing balls, but I couldn't stop thinking about it last night to the point i had a hard time sleeping.

This morning I changed the light to 12/12 and pulled that plant out of the room.. I'm thinking I should just chop it down as I don't want to chance ruining the rest of my crop (although some seeds of this strain would be nice, I really don't want seeded weed this time around.)

Anyway, coming back to my question, the reason I ask is because the balls are in early development.. Have you noticed any plants that show hermie balls in the first couple of weeks into flower, and then when everything is fine tuned and they're no longer stressed, as it should be with the lights, do they go away, or will the plant still push out balls? I wouldn't mind picking all of these off if there was a chance I could still get a good plant out of it. I'm just glad my clones weren't from that plant lol

The sad thing is, I have the 4 clones which I think are rooted (at least 3 of them seem to be) and 6 new seedlings which are on their 4th node.. Changing the light to 12/12 means these wont get much of a veg time.. I really wish I had that T5 now, but what can you do? I'd rather have 3 solid plants than a bunch of seeded weed. Live and learn.. Out of all the 8 plants I grew from this strain, this is the only one that showed any male traits, so I can't complain too much I guess lol.

Yep, we had the same problem bro. Some of our plants seemed to be very intolerant to light leaks and interuptions. We had 2 of our medical 1024's hermie on us and pollinate the other plants. Buds with seeds are a big turn-off. The medicine is still there, but we were not able to command top dollar. I would pull her and salvage what I could brother. We had a friend who had clones of ours, and his medical 1024 hermied as well. He wad able to save the buds, but had to harvest her early.

yeah it's sad when that happens. I don't make anything off my harvest, so fortunately it's not as bad as in your boat, but I still like my smoke to be as good as it can be. Plus, I like giving it to a few close friends, and the better the smoke, the happier they are to be saving money on not buying it elsewhere..

I couldn't salvage any of it, it was only a week into flowering so I just chopped it. The other 3 ladies are doing very well and starting to really show bud. the trichs are starting to show also. I still have them under the MH and I can say this is a MUST! It reduced the horrible stretch that normally happens, and kept my plants a manageable size. I'll be swapping the bulb to HPS this weekend to start the fattening process

I'm getting a 110w T5 tonight and some panda film to section off an area for vegging and clones. I have about 3.5ft of vertical space on this ledge, so I think it's perfect for a vegging area. I have had the lights on 12/12 for about 2 weeks, but the seedlings and clones aren't showing signs of flowering yet, so I don't think the change to 24/0 would be bad for them. I'm not sure if the clones have rooted, but I assume so, I no longer need to mist them and I'm not watering them every day like I was, so I assume there are some roots there to sustain it. Once I get some constant light on them I'm sure they will start to explode with growth. Since I'm vegging while these plants are flowering, I'm gonna LST the seedlings to keep them low. I'll be vegging them a bit longer than usual as I'm sort of out of room in the flower box haha.

I've been looking for my old camera to snap some pics, so when I find it, I'll throw some up.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

bought my T5 last night, the seedlings are loving it. the rating on it says it puts out 10,000 lums, and once I turned it on, damn they were right lol. This thing is bright. I also picked up some 6mm B&W poly to section off a ledge in my grow room.. I got it pretty much light sealed, although there are some light leaks around some of the edges.. due to the nature of the room and how uneven the foundation walls are, it's nearly impossible to create a 100% sealed room..

My question is have you guys had any small indirect light leaking out from a veg chamber that caused problems with your flowering plants? The light isn't very much at all.. When everything is dark in the room, you still can't see the plants in the flowering box, only a soft glow from the wall where the poly meets it.

I'm also concerned about ventilation. I want to get a fan for in there, but what about exhausting air while preventing light leaks? I'm thinking if i want to do this properly, I need to put some serious man hours into it and just rebuild..

I have a lot of leftover poly, so I was thinking of remaking my flower box and using this stuff instead of mylar, or maybe in conjunction with the mylar (mylar on inside, black facing out). This stuff blocks out all the light, so if I re-wrap the sides of the box, do you think this will be sufficient in preventing any indirect light from reaching the flowering plants? The light leaks are near the floor mostly.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

I know I keep saying I'm gonna snap pics and they still haven't arrived.. I've been busy as hell with the grow and just joined a band so we're doing a lot of local touring which eats up a ton of my time.

Anyway, I will get pics up one of these days. The plants are flowering well, and 2/4 cuttings i took have taken off.. They had an amazing root structure and are now growing at a rapid rate. The one I am thinking of raising as a mom because of how fast it rooted. I'm hoping the other 2 root soon. The leaves are showing no discoloring, and they don't ever get droopy.. But then again they may have roots and I'm just not seeing them yet.

The other 6 seedlings are growing strong.. I'm going to transplant them tonight I think..

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

Finally got around to snapping a few pics of the new grow for you guys..

Excuse the mess of a room.. I'm in the process of cleaning and rebuilding, it's a never ending process, but it's come a very long way already and the plants are loving it.

They are 20 days in bloom. I've never seen flowers develop this fast before, but then again, I've never used a good flowering nutrient. I need to back off the nutes just a little as I'm seeing a slight amount of tip burn and some of the older leaves are showing some burns. Nothing to worry about as i caught it early on.

Here are the flowering plants

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

Just GORGEOUS K2,man them are flowering fast and the veg area and plants are great, you will get some production here K2.It looks like your going perpetual.Great job,Gro bro.:nicethread::cheer::popcorn:

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

hell yeah man, I finally got a good plan together to get a perpetual thing going. I hate waiting 3 months to harvest, so this is definitely going to work. I'm throwing those 6 seedlings in flower at the end of the month. One of those new clones I'm going to grow as a mom. I'll probably top it and clone the top pretty soon. The seedlings are showing a bit of burn because I accidentally watered them from the nute bottle once. I just transplanted them all the other day so the new soil should help clear that up, and then in a week or so I'll start hitting them with veg nutes

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

so the smallest flowering plant is starting to scare me a little bit. All the older primary fan leaves are showing some serious burns the whole way up the plant. I had the nutes bumped up to full strength so maybe it's just a sensitive strain. The other two aren't showing these symptoms at all. I'm cutting back the nutes and flushing with water for a few days to restore balance in the soil. (I never really flushed before flowering, so I have a feeling the veg nutes are interfering with the flower nutes, or a possibility of excess salt buildup causing a lockout. I need to check the soil ph and see where it lies, but I'm almost certain a bit of a flush will take care of it.

Another plant is starting to yellow just slightly up on the cola leaves.. It looks like a N def, but probably for the same reasons the other one is showing problems. I'm not too worried, I just need to wait it out and see what happens.

The growth hasn't stopped at all. I looked at them this morning before the lights went off and the trichs seemed to have doubled overnight. There is so much frost on these things and they're only 3 weeks in.

I've given them plain water the past 2 days and will continue this until Sunday, then I'll start with tiger bloom at 1/2 strength to ease them back into it. It is only on the older leaves, so all the new branches are doing well.. Who knows, I could also be overreacting and the issue is just a matter of the plants eating themselves.. I don't usually have the 1st set of leaves on here at this point., so I must be doing something right.

Some good news is my clones are growing faster than I've ever seen a plant grow. In a week I'll be able to top the mom and clone the top. I can't believe I didn't try cloning before. I'm also going to start flowering the seedlings next week.

I have 5 weeks left.. I can't wait to smoke some homegrown again. I've just been smoking with my friends lately, but its good to cut back a bit and let my tolerance go down. I smoked half a small joint with my friend yesterday and was blitzed off it. I was at the point where I would have to smoke 2 fat joints to get a good buzz goin on.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

just got surprised with a nice $25 gift certificate, so I bought a bunch of blunt wraps.. I find myself going out to the local tobacco store every weekend and buying 3-4 packs of wraps. They're only $0.75 for a pack of 2, so it isn't too bad, but it's time consuming lol.

I usually smoke Zig Zags but I picked up some Double Platinum wraps. I got 80 of them for $24 on Amazon, which is a great deal. Turns out to be $0.15 cheaper per pack this way. Comes with 20 flavors. Won't be able to use them for another month, but it's all good.

blunts are a nice weekend treat for me and the lady.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

thanks for the comments guys.. I'll need to snap some new pics, it seems every day they are swelling with resin. I'm actually seeing something I've never seen before in all my grows.. Sugar leaves.. Not just your normal sugar leaves, but the fan leaves that have no buds on them are starting to get completely covered in crystals. I can't wait to smoke some of this stuff. I really think the flush helped the burnt plant. Since I flushed, the bud growth has sped up and they're really starting to get fat. I'm gonna start feeding them again tonight when the lights come on.

Some other good news in the veg area, I have 2 plants that are already showing female pistils, so that's 2 confirmed ladies from the seeds I made last round. I also fimmed one of the clones just to try it out. It hasn't really recovered from it yet enough to show new growth, but the rest of the plant is still growing strong. I look forward to 2-4 tops on this one.

You guys ever notice your plants showing sex in veg after a while? I haven't heard too much of it, but I have experienced it quite a bit since I got the HID.

Yeah man, my one kushberry clone is doing better than its mom. The mom was showing spotted leaves all over, didn't affect the growth at all, but the clones aren't showing it at all.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

I snapped these yesterday morning and it shows how well Zena is making a comeback, along with the babies. I had a new seed break soil, so I included a shot of the new baby.

I was reading a post where that one person claimed about 90 percent success rate sexing germinated seeds...they claimed that female plants opened at the top, bottom, or sides of the seed, I forget which, while males came out the other way...do you know if there's anything to this claim? I forget where I read it.

interesting theory, although I've never paid that close attention to it. I'll have to check it out next time I germ some seeds.
