HID Grow - Revenge of the Kittens

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

yeah dude, 2 600's will be great for that space, it will fill it up very nicely. My space is only 3x4 but the one 600 lights it up really well.

I smoked entirely too much this weekend lol. I finally got the last of the second plant trimmed up and jarred. It came out to another 3 full packed jars. Haven't given it a final weight yet though, but the volume is about the same as the last one. I still need to trim up the big one.. I've been putting it off, but tonight I must get it done.

I smoked way too much on Saturday lol. By the end of the day, I was 2 blunts, 4 joints, 4 bowls, and 2 bongs deep. I'm building up quite the tolerance. I think during the week I'm just going to wait on smoking till after work and I should be good by the weekend. The problem is, I buy blunt wraps and can't not smoke blunts haha

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

Trimmed up most of the Sativa last night, got a nice amount of bud from it.. I haven't really looked at it since before I chopped it, and during the dry process, the hairs turned insanely red. These buds look like they're on fire haha. I filled up my biggest glass mixing bowl as I wait on some more jars. I have the biggest branches left to trim tonight, so I will put together a final weight for that plant. I still haven't smoked this stuff, I can't wait too.

Here is a brief report on the different strains. I named them to differentiate them from one another. In order of chop. Don't laugh at the names, I came up with them in a pinch while super stoned lol. I'll take some pics of each sample and update the post with them for better reference.

#1 - Naranja Verde
#2 - Monster Bud
#3 - Red Back Spider

#1 - 9/10. Very mellow relaxing indica heavy high that will sneak up on you. Enough to keep you stoned and space out on the couch, yet won't hold you down or interfere with any functioning activities. Duration lasts around 1.5 hours, with the last 2 hours trailing off. Smoke has a cooling taste to it, very citrus like, and is getting smoother with cure time. The smell is amazing and smells like skunk mixed with oranges. Bag appeal is very nice as the buds are very fat and dense and covered with crystals. There are tons of thick orange hairs covering the buds and the bud is a deep green color. Breaking up these buds are a task as there is so much resin your fingers are extremely sticky by the time you're done, and it makes it hard to roll or pack.

#2 - 8/10. Very dense indica heavy bud full of resin. The smell of this plant is enough to knock you on your ass. It tastes a bit ashy but i think that will go away with some cure time. The buds are extremely fat and solid, the most dense weed I've ever seen. It's very green with a decent amount of brown / orange hairs, although they don't stand out too much. This bud has a nice high to it, very indica as I mentioned earlier. The first few hits make your arms and hands tingle and feel weightless, then it sets into your head and relaxes your entire body.

#3 - 5/10 (Will update after smoked). Heavy sativa, not sure if I chopped it early or what, but it didn't fill out as much as I had hoped. The bright red stringy hairs that are sticking out all over it look like spiders legs (hence the name). The bud itself is rock hard, but doesn't carry too much weight to it. There are some buds that were fairly fluffy but overall I got a lot of bud from it. It has very nice bag appeal but not too many crystals. Will update more when I smoke it tonight.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

I want to thank all of you who were on board for the journal and helped along the way. Even just the support and compliments on the work I did is enough encouragement to help you see it through to the end. I wish I could smoke it with you all.

As far as the growing game goes, I'm going to finish up these 4 kush plants I have on 12/12 and take a little break. I have some serious renovations planned for the grow room and need to build out a 2 tier system with a veg area and flower area. I want to get that out of the way and get new windows, some duct work, and clean up the area more. I think with the much fresher air, they will do even better. I absolutely hate waiting 3 months to harvest, so I really need to get a perpetual setup going so I can throw a couple of plants into flower each month.

Stay tuned for that. I might be adding some more lights down the road too.

This journal can be moved to completed journals. Thanks again to all who were on board for this!

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

well i guess too much time has passed since i posted the report, I can't edit the post.

Anyway, I smoked a couple bongs of the Sativa last night. I'm really not impressed. It had a lingering mild high, nothing I was really hoping for. I think it's just a low yielder and has low THC because there weren't too many trichs on it. It's better than nothing, and my tolerance probably plays a part. I had already smoked yesterday too, so I'm going to try it tonight as my first smoke and see if it is any better.

Thanks for swingin by guys. OMM, I will be sure to document all my improvements to the space next go around. I'm very excited about the next grow as I will be using the same seeds as the 4 kush plants I have going on now. They're very small and were on 12/12/ from seed but they have more trichs than I've ever seen on a plant, and for it's size, the cola is very nice. I plan on growing another 2-3, top them (first attempt), and LST'ing the crap out of them until they're at around 16" tall tied down with 5 or 6 tops.. I will use the tops as cuttings and try to successfully clone the plants so I have around 5 or 6 total, with 2-3 really big ones. Should be a fun grow. I'll make sure I document it.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

SOrry to hear the Sativa was weak...be it from THC content or tolerance (or both), but you're right, it's better than nothing. How was the flavor?

With your LST you said you want to grow the next ones until they're about 16" and have 5-6 tops. Does this mean that you cut off most of the other branches leaving only a few main ones? I think that's partially what my "problem" was...I had around 40 growing tips but some were farther down than others and didn't grow as fast so I've got a bunch of larger colas and even more tiny colas that are 1-2" long with 4-6" stems lol.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

I was thinking of that, I'm not sure if i will trim the bottom branches or not, I'll have to see how the plant grows and take it from there. I'm more concerned about getting bigger tops than anything, so I will probably try it on at least one plant.

The flavor of the sativa is pretty good, I know it will get better with a good cure. It's already starting to stink more. It has a citrusy taste to it, kind of lemony. It tastes like good weed, it just lacks the punch of the others.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

I think I will be doing something different on my upcoming grow for sure, altho some nice tops on these plants there is loadddds o new small growth coming through continuously and I'm sure this must have an effect on overall power consumption so to speak. Lollipop style seems the way to go for me, I don't have the space or height issues, more a case of wanting to maximise the best buds at the top.

Of course I haven't tested these theories for myself yet, I definitely will not be topping a plant ever, but stripping lower growth seems to have some benefits to yield.

I had taste test of my cheese. (a broken branch) only half way through and it packs a kick already. Bit of an anxious vibe on it tho so hope that is due to it being so early as oppose to a paranoid inducing strain lol

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

Well guys, I checked the trichs on the 4 babies last night and there is about 10-20% amber across all 4 plants. It's very interesting how similar these 4 grew as they were the same strain, and germed and broke soil at pretty much the same time.

The buds are hard and dense as a rock, and feel like they weigh a ton. The tallest plant is so top heavy it's seriously leaning at a 45 degree angle. I'm going to chop them tonight when I get home and hopefully not be too stoned to snap a few pics of the finished product.

I've gotten rid of a decent amount of the harvest already between friends and me smoking it. I have a good 6 jars left, and another oz set aside for some friends and special occasions. With this small haul coming up, i'll be more than prepared to be baked up until next harvest.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

Yeah I'm already noticing a nice increase in buzz as it gets more brittle. It just kind of crumbles now instead of having to be broken or cut apart. I'm loving this batch for sure. I think since I harvested it when they were mostly cloudy and <5% amber, it gives a great indica stone but doesn't keep you down all day. I was having the worst morning just trying to wake up and get going. Smoked a bowl of this and I'm feeling like I can take on the world.

So I decided to put off the project a bit longer so I'm starting up another grow.

I started germing them last night:

1 Jacks Cleaner
3 Kushberries (Not sure of the origin but it's some form of blueberry kush)

I'm going to LST these ones and grow them bushy. Probably veg them for 4-6 weeks, take a few clones around week 3 (More clones from the Jacks Cleaner as it is my only seed), then flower. I want to keep this kushberry strain alive, the smoke was amazing, and the plant grew super thick dense buds that smell amazing. Very heavy yielder for it's size. I harvested those 4 small plants (2 14" and 2 8") and after trimmed it weighed out to 6.4oz. So I figure 50% water weight, it comes out to 3.2oz, or .8oz per plant. For an 8" plant with only like 5 nodes that isn't a bad haul.

Stay tuned for the next journal.

DNA Genetics has such a strain

They do make it sound like a winner.

I think it's generally closer to 75% of the fresh-harvest weight being water. To be honest with you, I'm not completely positive. I only weighed the first couple of harvests I ever did (LONG time back) and then realized that if every time I picked up a freshly-cut bud I ended up with trichomes all over me that it was probably not the most intelligent thing for me to do to my harvest.:grinjoint:

But if I remember correctly it was somewhere around a 75% weight loss in drying.
