haha dude that would be epic. I'm already kicking myself for not taking clones.. Oh well, there is always next time. I'm thinking of trying a SOG type grow and give maybe 10 small plants a try rather than a few huge ones. I find it interesting these 4 kush seeds are all female.. It gives me great hope that I can get more females from the other 6. Once these 4 are done, I'm going to grow one as a mom and take clones from it for a few months.

yeahh that sounds like a plan batman. I might be following in yer footsteps also, tho I guess it makes sense only to try different methods with the same strains for a true comparison.

I actually have some Jack Herer (RIP) and some Moby Hash for my next grow and Im sure both of these require good height so maybe I will be growing eu naturale again.

yeah once i get the room finished, i have plants to separate it into two sections, one for veg and one for flower. This is really the only way I can see that is practical to grow a decent perpetual garden.

It depends how much you are smoking. Obviously not everyone on here is growing just for personal use, I just saw someone planting like 40 plants! lol I only need about 3 ounces to last me 3 months or so smoke whilst I start with a new batch after one has finished. So that would still be perpetual in all essence. Its more having things to fiddle with and the variety that I like haha

yeah I'm with you on that. I love having plants in flower just because they're nice to look at and take care of and anticipate all the good bud that will come from it. I smoke quite a bit, on average it has only been 1/8th a week but if I get a good harvest, I can't see it lasting too long lol. I'll end up smoking joints and blunts all the time and it will go very fast.

Last night i trimmed and weighed the remaining bud from the hermie.. I had already smoked a couple of branches and the entire main cola, so I only had 3.5 grams left.. It is super fluffy so it filled my stash jar completely. For being immature bud it isn't bad at all.

I went and watered the plants last night too and I am noticing more trichs on the Sativa, so that's some good news. I hope it's just a late bloomer. the smell is getting really intense and the buds are just swelling with resin. The Sativa is getting to the point where it is more bud than leaf/branch. I can't wait to chop these down and smoke them!

I'm definitely addicted to this game now for sure. I've actually been without a smoke since I started all this about two months ago now. I've smoked daily for like 20 years or so so was a real scarey thing to come off it but it was okay after a cple o weeks. Once I had started growing my own I begrudged going out and buying any then you know?

Now its a bit weird not smoking it and growing it but I think and hope that I wont be 24 hrs a day smoking in the future and will just have it to chill at night n stuff. I'm not sure how long will last but it would be for the best, we will see eh? lol

One thing for sure tho, it seems aggggggges sometimes waiting for some of this hiomegrown smoke. I'm about 2 weeks into flower now so prob another 6 weeks wait zzzzzz So if some is smokeable after 5 weeks etc you just let me know haha

As labrat has pointed out so well - there's no point in denying yourself some a week early when you will have plenty from then on. Go ahead and cut a branch a week early. At the least it trains the palette.

And in the mean time - I know just what you mean about buying any - I bought 1 sack in a month while waiting. The quality ended up being less than what I grow. It pissed me off so much I didn't enjoy it like I shoulda.

For some reason, also, in the last year only 1 or 2 people have actually come over and smoked ME out with their weed instead of vice versa. Not that I mind a bit, but I would love to have more folks to trade tastes with.

Anyways. Wait till the end. Buy yourself one final nice sack to have while you trim and dry a branch. It will be the last weed you ever buy.

haha dude I don't know how you do it.. I know with my last grow, I was out of smoke for a couple weeks before harvest.. I ended up giving into temptation and clipping a bud every day until I harvested.. I only had about a half ounce left between the two plants when I finally chopped them down. It does seem like it takes forever for the plants to grow and get to the harvest point, but once you're there it's an amazing feeling.

I know what you mean about buying though.. Although I recently came across a new connection who always has the dankest cali bud.. I just can't justify spending $60 a week on weed anymore when I can grow ounces for much less. Come to think of it, I had all my nutrients from last grow, so all I bought for this grow was water and electricity, which comes to about ~$150 for the entire grow. $150 for 5oz+ is definitely worth it.

After 5 weeks your bud will be smokable, but I would advise against it just because it's very immature and the high doesn't last too long. It's kind of like smoking mids . It does the job, but leaving the bud to mature will make you happier in the long run because they will be twice the size and twice as potent. When it comes close to harvest time, definitely cut a branch off and have it dry in the meantime.. that way when harvest day rolls around, you can sample and have an enjoyable relaxing evening harvesting the rest. I have 3.5 grams left of the hermie and thats the end of my stash until I harvest. I'm hoping I can stretch it for a little more than a week. This weekend I might clip a test branch just to test potency, so giving it a week to dry, it should line me up with the end of my stash, and hold me over until harvest.

I have 2 days left until I stop feeding them nutes and throw the MH back in there. I'm going to check the trichs on the Sativa now that they are appearing and possibly continue the nutes only on that plant for another week since it might go a bit longer than the others. I really hope the MH gives a resin boost.

Papa, I know what you mean bro, I rarely have people coming to smoke me up.. My one friend always blazes me up quite often though, which is nice, he always has a different strain each week. I hate how people get stingy with their stash. Generosity always pays off, as my friend will see when I harvest. I have a half ounce I'm throwing his way for always smoking me and my girl up when I'm in a dry period.

I wish you guys could all participate in smoking these ladies. I would break out a cola and roll it up for everyone.

I have the same thing. 1 or 2 guys who will bring a little different every week. It makes all the difference in politeness as far as I'm concerned. They only bring a little bud, enough for a few hits - but that's all I want (well I mean I wouldn't mind like 9000 lbs of just about any weed ) - but lately Jah has seen to it that I have plenty, so I don't mind sharing.

Just finished reading all of your first Grow Cfls etc.. and now this one.... Well you made my mind up 2 600`s I am going to get soon.. Question for ya though, I only have like 6 foot ceilings in the basement, can I keep them 600`s high enough or would 400`s be better I wd. think 1000`s wd. be out of the question too right Since only having 6 feet height Max???

Btw stupid ? why do all keep the soil like 4 or 5 inches down from the top of the pails?

Hey hogs, mate. You will have to think a bit about the height.

It depends on several things including the height of your pots which some people forget about.

With a 600w light you are going to need 2 feet between the plants and the light, the light will not be flush to the ceiling either, perhaps your pots are 1 foot high too, that gives a maximum of 3 feet growing space. Therefore 400 w would probably be enough and also give less potential heat issues.

Of course you may grow 'shortstuff' which would change that scenario.

5 gal. pots =2 feet light from plants =2 feet, light hanging down from ceiling 1 foot, Hmmm total of 5 feet ....Whats that leave me with plants a foot tall, What am I missing here?

well, you are not, you are seeing the reality

If height limited you need to be keeping everything as short as possible, the pots, (shorter and wider for eg. )the lights as high as possible to the ceiling etc, check out the strain you are choosing and most likely veg for shorter to grow shorter plants. Also as I say, you can have the plants slightly closer to a less intensive light so 400w I would recommend for sure over the 600w. Even a 250 can work great depending on how many plants and the footprint you are growing in. If you have a really wide room then 2x250w is also an option of course.

There are also lots of methods that you can read about on here, for example lst'ing (LST) this will help to train the plants to be short and bushy as oppose to tall.

On average I would suspect that the average size people grow their plants indoors s between 3 and 4 feet.

Better to think ahead before it gets an issue during the grow of course.

No prob Hogs, all comments and discussions are welcome in here. If you're worried about height issues, I would spend the extra and get air cooled hoods with your lights, it will allow you to keep the lights so much closer to the plants without burning them. I rigged up my setup to allow my lights to be close to the plants without burning just by blowing a fan on the bulb.. The fan is small (~8-10") and is about 3' away from the light. I can't raise my light anymore so the light is around 4" from the top of the Sativa cola. The trick to this is keep the cola to the corner of the light, it still gets enough light intensity, but the heat is being blown away from it, so it really doesn't get hot.

to answer your question about the soil levels.. When I initially planted them, I only left an inch to two inches of space and that was to accommodate for the water level when they would get watered.. After a decent amount of watering and settling, the soil kind of packs itself down and gives more space. I generally top the soil off when I start flowering with another couple of inches of soil. I have seen GMT mix in some flowering nutes with the top layer of soil and his plants yield almost a pound each, so he's doing something right.

Everything 3lions pointed out is great advice also. I LST'd my first grow and was able to keep the plants very short and could keep the lights right on top of them. If you have 6' ceilings, try not to veg past 14-16" and you shouldn't have any height issues.

Another thing to keep in mind is 5 gallon pots take up a decent amount of vertical space. I ran 5 gal's my last grow and this time I'm using 3 gallon pots. My plants are huge and not showing signs of being bound at all, so I don't see an issue with using 3 gals, plus it frees up a ton of space in my area.

I'll have to snap some new pics and throw them up.. They're in the last stretch and are done getting nutes (Except the Sativa who will get nutes for another week).

I cut a test branch off the frostiest plant and it is still drying.. Half dry, the one bud weighed 5.2g. I smoked a couple of the smaller buds and damn does it pack a punch. I ended up smoking the last of the hermie over the weekend and it was decent, but the little buds on the new plant are awesome. I think it need another 2 weeks as the trichs were only a little cloudy. I'll wait until I see some amber and then chop it.

Thanks for that info... The cool hoods may be an answer to the ceiling heights.. But one does lose alot of light ,What is it like 25 to 30 percent because of the glass, I forget something like that maybe less.. but using 600 maybe thats ok, what I lose won`t be a plm....
