Hempy Headquarters

No kidding I have a lot of reading to do. Some valuable info here I want to soak it all in.
Any idea on how you want to hempy? We have a pretty wide variety of methods I do coco and perlite with perlite res. But many of the hempy hooligans do pure perlite with osmocote + (I think that's what it is anyway)

No wrong way to hempy really imo. I may try a fully organic soil coco mix with amendments above the hempy res at some point.

I am in 5 gallon buckets running a coco perlite mix, didnt measure just winged it. Using fox farm trio with silicon and mg for flower I also add Beastie Bloomz and Chaching. For water I use 1/2 tap water that I run through a gravity filter(lots of Ca) and half r/o. I water/feed twice a day until roots hit res. then 500mL a day until that stops giving me runoff then increase by 500mL increments to runoff. I try to only get a small amount of runoff as flushing every now and then is way cheaper than wasting nutes but can be hard ad the water runs through the coco slowly. So far I have only had to flush once, this is my first grow, between veg and flower. after I noticed the tips of just a few fan leaves turning yellow (I suspect it may even have been due to changing to a different light).

Hempy has been super easy for me after reading different grow journals. Its like following a recipe.

Ive been feeding at half strength(about 2ml/l) plus 2ml/l of big bud. I upped it to 3ml/l and im gonna give it a few days and up it again if i need to.
Dam and here im doing about .7 to .8ml a liter lol shit im guna need to step it up b4 i let the girls flip lol thanx for the info.

I was thinkn of trying this with some of my sunshine mix #4 i got left. if u do try it out let me no. Once my new girls are ready i think i mite try it out with one of them.

Ok so i was just wondering since I flipped my remo hempy girls 2day to 12-12 would i continue veg nutes for the first feeding or two and slowly introduce the flower nutes? Or should I just go straight to flower nutes?

I would for a week. Then transition to bloom.

Interesting..... I go straight to bloom nutes. I'm not gentle about the introduction at all. The pot gets flushed sometimes, but usually I just mix enough to flush it a little more than normal.

I water every two days, and for the most part they drink most of the reservoir, unless they're still small. Then I empty the reservoir before I water.......sometimes. :cheesygrinsmiley: I'm probably as lazy as Tead. Lol!

It may be the nutrients I use, but I've never had any problem going directly to flower nutes.

Ok so when u say continue for a week. I'm assuming u mean just veg nutes no flower nutes added? And when u say transition to bloom at that point should I quit veg nutes 100% and go straight bloom nutes? Or after the first week slowly start adding in the bloom nutes with the veg nutes? Sorry for the newbie questions here its just some of the nutes don't say to use during bloom so im not sure how to get the best results and flying kinda blind here so need all the help i can get. I sure wudnt be half as far along with my garden as i am if not this place lol. Thanx every1 for all the help.

Yes. What I do is just up the part B or if using a 3 part -- the bloom nutes.

For instance if I'm using sensi grow for coco (2 part fert.). I up the part B 1-2-4 And feed 7 ml part a and 10 part b.

Personally I start this a week before flip to 12 12 and continue a week after. The added nitrogen during stretch will help the plant stretch more. While the introduction of more PK signals the plant that flower is near. (Or at least that was my thibking behind this approach). If you are limited on height I would switch directly to bloom nutes.

Either way the plants will be just fine. remember sativas are typically more prone to nutrient burn. The advice I found a lot was feed veg nutes till pistils appear. But many people grow with bloom nutes the entire cycle (apparently this is a thing?) So switching at 12 12 can't be a bad idea either.

Conclusion: we will place this topic in the category of personal preference.....

I don't think there is a right or wrong way to do it. The most important thing is to listen to what the plants are telling you!

Thanx bro much appreciated ill keep an eye on them n jus slowly add in bloom nutes over the next week till i see pistal growth then ill switch over to just bloom nutes. I'm really curious to see if i get more of a yield using these nutes versus my los mix.

Perlite Reclaimation

I've finally convinced myself that it's time to get the perlite reclaimed for the winter runs. I've worked out my own system, that I thought I'd share with you. :battingeyelashes:

My kitchen is becoming a maze through the perlite bins. :laughtwo:

IMG_665414.JPG

I have these plastic bins I came across at Target a couple years back. At the time I had no idea what I'd use them for, but they've become invaluable in my garden. I use them for riser under the plants, and I also use them to wash the smaller branches of plants with small yields.

The process begins with a good soak in warm water, nothing added. All I'm trying to do here is leech the residue from nutrients off the perlite.

IMG_665613.JPG

I discovered quite by accident that if I bounce the strainer on the top of the soaking perlite the dust floating on the top gets picked up in the meshing.

IMG_666612.JPG

Do that a few times and most of its gone from the mix. This makes rinsing so much easier.

IMG_666713.JPG

The perlite gets thoroughly rinsed, one strainer at a time.

IMG_665514.JPG

Another bin off to the side holds the rinsed perlite, waiting to be sterilized.

IMG_665714.JPG

When the last pan is done cooking it gets emptied into a third bin, just because the pan fits so nicely into here that there's no possibility of spillage. Little pieces of perlite can be found all through my home. Let's not encourage more by being unnecessarily sloppy. :laughtwo:

IMG_666110.JPG

Then more perlite is loaded onto the baking pan...

IMG_666215.JPG

.....and into the oven.

IMG_666311.JPG

It all cooks at 200 degrees F for 3 hours. That dries the pan out entirely and kills any pathogens that might cause distress in a future grow, or at least that's my expectation. :battingeyelashes:

So far so good. I have two plants right now in the reclaimed perlite,

Chem Dawg, waiting to be flipped this weekend,

IMG_666814.JPG

and the CBd Critical Cure that'll be her closetmate. They'll be moving into the tiny closet after the Candy Cane comes down.

IMG_666912.JPG

Shoot..... I might as well show off the rest of the hempy girls, right?

Candy Cane 3.1 comes down Sunday. :yahoo: That opens this space for the Chem Dawg and CBD CC 2.7.

She's earning her Christmasy name with a blizzard of trichomes.

IMG_66719.JPG

Devil's Carnival 1.2 is in her third week of flower. Yesterday I attempted my first breeding project with her, dropping some nanners her mother produced into buds along one branch. It looks encouraging, but only time will tell.

IMG_667219.JPG

Carnival 4.4 has moved into the second month of her bloom cycle. She's so beautiful she takes my breath away.

IMG_667319.JPG

Last, but not least, Malawi 1.2, a month into veg and still a ways out before I'll be ready to flip her. For one thing, there's no room under bloom lights until I get the new tent up and running.

IMG_667410.JPG

I'm doing some creative training, bending her around the perimeter of the pot.

IMG_667512.JPG

It'll result in all the colas being the same height.

IMG_667612.JPG

Eventually the main tip will end up filling that empty space on the other side of the pot.

IMG_667714.JPG

That's the brood guys. All happy campers. The happiest plants in my garden are the hempy girls, there's no denying it.

Looking awesome Sue! The Malawi is going to be a big one! Arctic bowls was flipped last weekend and already trying to double in size . Those pure sativas I tell ya!

I managed to tame the mother Dabber, by using a 5-gallon pot of soil. I'm hoping I get the same taming ability from this smaller pot.

Sue, always with a plan! I love it! So far the bondage looks great. She should be a winner for sure with all the bud sites you'll train out of her

Man... the prerl builds up so damn fast in my world. The outdoor garden is about as full of it as I can get it. I have tubs and bags of used perl hangin around everywhere. I've given all I can to my neighbors.
I give up.
There's no way I can deal with it in any sort of lazy manor. I can see no recourse except disposal thru normal trash collection.

Not very granola. I feel guilty. I suspect I'll get over it. The only relief of my guilt is the knowledge that I'm basically putting dirt into the trash cycle.

Dam those r lookn good sue great job I jus flipped my hempy girls yesterday so pretty excited to see how they turn out lol but yea ill definitely be reclaiming some perlite 2day cuz my place looks the same buckets of it everywhere lol little pebbles all over the place haha

So all I have to do to be able to reuse my perlite is rinse it off really good and then bake it at 200 degrees f for 3 hours that's it?
What I did was take a tub, toss in the perlite
Dumping in about 5gal of RO water, wanna say about 2-3 cups of h202
Let it sit, mixed it every so often

Next day, scooped it into my next grow buckets....let those drain and dry a bit. Used them about 4 days later

So far all seems Jim dandy
