Ever wonder how much silt and dust is in a new bag of perlite?

I washed about 10 gallons of perlite in a 40 gallon tote. Agitated with my hand to let the debris settle out.
Then scooped out into a strainer to do a good rinse under flowing water (1/2 gallon at a time).

This is the waste in the bottom of tote after 10 gallons of perlite took a bath.

1 1/2 pints of muck removed from 10 gallons of perlite poured from the top of the bag.

750 ml. Enough to fill a wine bottle!

Washed perlite ready to be used in a hempy.

Yes, I have wondered that Rad, so thank you for taking the time to document it. :hugs: Kinda scary, all that dangerous dust, isn't it? I've found ways to limit exposure.

That's the way to do it. Now you don't have to think about it. :high-five:

Your seedlings are looking much better. Top leaves are nice and green. :goodjob:

Up canning. Mine will stay in original containers but up canning is basically your call. If your plan was to give them larger containers I can assure you the roots will love new space. Same principal as soil plants. More soil equals more roots. More roots below equals more plant above. Trim and train and you have more bud sites.

If you don't want to up can now....plan it for one day next week. I think Sue Tead and Radogast have shown or discussed how to float the plant out and in a new home.

Looking good. :bongrip:

hey hempy friends just wanted to show my two devils carnival sue gifted me they r doing great so far with the roots organics here they r the first 2 pics is to see how tall they are the second 2 r to show the leaves

Looking good Jones! :high-five: I recommend you top the hell out of them. My second attempt is standing about 4' high, as compared to the mother, who I didn't aggressively top, who stood 7' and only gave me an ounce dry. Training to be lower in stature means I'll probably get twice from the clone I did from the mother. Tall ones in hempy usually mean thin branches that won't support the buds. Keep them low.

For transplanting you'll need the larger pot, clean perlite and some tape to plug the hole in the cup. Tape off the hole, fill the cup with water, grab the stem of the plant and lift. Take it to your new pot and fill in around the roots with perlite. Water with nutrients and go.

When I transplant I like to have the new perlite saturated with the nutrient drench. After the transplant is done I plug the hole in the new pot with my finger and fill the pot with the nutrient water, hold it there for about 30 seconds and release. This starts the pot off all wet and happy. :battingeyelashes: :green_heart:

Ok thanx guys much appreciated i didnt know if I should treat them differently then I do my soil girls for the uppotting since this is pretty much hydro growing I didn't know if I should up pot them in stages or can I go to there final home when I up pot them??

Also sweetsue ur one that got 7 feet tall what size pot did u have her in??

Blue Dreams - Flip + 34

My hempies are doing quite well considering they're getting only a little bit of light as I'm still having to run only the Bloom spectrum of this light to try to control tent temperature. We had 2 days of fall weather and back to the high 80s F heat outdoors. Just hanging out soaks your shirt. Quite miserable for October IMO.

How have the Blue Dream plants been as a whole? Do they like a lot of nutes, are they finicky and any tips you can give on the strain? I have two blue dream plants that just grew there first set of serrated leaves. They are only 5 days old and I would love some feedback on how they have done for you. Mine are Blue Dream XTRM from AMS and they seem to be getting off to a good start. Thanks

First let me thank you for your service. I've had a wonderful time growing my Blue Dreams. The original seed plant of mine came from HSO and I used clones of that plant to reverse one to create S1 seeds. It's been a very easy plant to grow and you really can feed it all the nutes you want. What I mean by that is you don't have to go from 1/4 to 1/2 strength and then to full strength. You can go straight to full strength. One caveat here. Yours is a Blueberry crossed to Jack and may be different than the HSO strain.

You'll want to top it early and often for a full plant before going into flower. SweetSue is growing one of my seeds and she's looking so good to me. Take a look:

....

Blue Dream S1 (Day 65, 47 days in the pot) Now that she's fully awake :laughtwo: She takes the longest to wake in the morning. Here she is directly after her drench. She's still holding at 12 ml of Parts A&B and 4 ml of Energy with 2 teaspoons of CaliMagic per gallon of water.

A dense baby, this one. Clipping her back will maintain the canopy the way I want it until I flip. At that time I'll thin the interior a smidge.

As long as the roots will reach into the lower 8" of the chosen pot it can be transplanted right into the finish pot. I start in the hempy solos and then go straight to the finish pot. Sometimes I'll do a middle stage, but only if I'm temporarily out of larger pots.

Transplanting is so easy to do you'll laugh when you do the first one. I guarantee it. :laughtwo:

It's been overly humid for the month here too Jim. I feel for you. :hugs:

From my perspective, the comparison grow looks neck-to-neck. Is that how you peg it?

Jim...... I'm flattered..... :battingeyelashes: Here she is today, less than a week from being flipped. I'm planning on Thursday. She's been a joy to grow. Nothing phases her. LOL! She's on the left.

I've had many members comment that this would have been their favorite all along, had it been available. I'm really looking forward to tasting her wares.

Another successful Hempy Harvest :slide:

Carnival 4.1 came down today, 137 days old, 77 of those days spent in flowering mode. What a trooper!

I allowed her to get much too tall. I learned my lesson. Her clone is half this height with twice the blossoms.

A casualty...

Strawberry Blue dampened off. It happens so quick it caught me off guard. I only have one more of the seeds, so I think I'll hold off for a while and focus on the Blue Dreams.

It brings me down a plant, at least until tomorrow when I take the next clone cutting. Lol!

I hardly feel like losing that poor seedling will slow you down sue!

And are you saying you feel like the smaller hempies seem to do equally well or better in less time?

Wow, those blue dream plants look sooooo healthy. I am going to put mine in 3.5 gallon pots and most likely go with soil as I will have 3 hempy grows going and I want to get some experience under my belt before I go wild. I am using 100% perlite for simplicity sake and will do more reading up on coco perlite blends. Hopefully the blue dream seeds do well and I can get some clones down the road to do in hempy. Thanks for the feedback Magic Jim. Sweet Sue, those plants look fantastic. RIP Strawberry Blue.

I've gotten the same yield in both small and large pots, but I lost control of the large pots. I'm getting better at training them. However, what I discovered when I did the root check on today's harvest was surprising.

IMG_370915.JPG

Her root ball stopped about 2/3rds of the way down the pot. :thedoubletake:

IMG_371318.JPG

It was packed tight in that upper 2/3rds. She never made full use of the matrix. For all her height she'll only produce an ounce, at best.

IMG_371518.JPG

IMG_371619.JPG

Nice, strong roots, but I'd anticipated them to have filled the container. This was unexpected. It suggests that the smaller pots are more efficient. This was the largest and deepest pot I've used so far. I may retire it and stick to the standardized ones I bought at Big Lots.

IMG_371915.JPG

IMG_372012.JPG

A maintenance note: It's time to begin reclaiming the perlite. I mix a cup of Clorox with a gallon of water and fill the container with used perlite. Every now and then I'll give it a stir, and it'll sit overnight. In the morning I'll rinse thoroughly and start a new batch, continuing on until all of the used is clean and ready for reuse.

I have grown Borderliner XTRM and AK47 XTRM from AMS. They are among the easiest to grow and some of my favorites to consume.

The XTRM line is formed by crossing the named plant (Blue Dream) with a Brazilian IBL. This gives them all a similarity in easy of growing and a good dose of THC in their trichomes. Not at all finicky. Easy to clone. They can get leggy branches if not trained. Medium Heavy feeders, similar to other Sativa/Indica hybrids. If they are underfed they will scavenge from their fan leaves in flower, even early flower.

Passing on a little wisdom fron Bobrown in my thread.
The muck from the per-lite will be good in the garden... spread it around should be fine. It's actually made up of granite glass, wont hurt worms and should add to the tilth in the soil and give microbes a nice handy apartment living.

I have three Borderline XTRM in flower right now. 2 are identical as far as growth and shape but the third is like a whole nother phenotype. It is tall and leggy and looks way different. I am going to grab some clones from the tall leggy one and see what they do. I am just learning to take clones and I am taking them from everything just to get practice in. God help me if they all keep going and grow. i'll be needing a new tent.

My reason for adding an overflow tent. Of course I had already purchased the second LED so I might have been thinking well in advance.

Blazin....I had that smell a few weeks ago. I took them to the sink and did a major flush....probably a half gallon through each of those little pots I have.

Somewhere in my mind swims the thought of researching the use of H2O2 . It might be right here on this thread.
