Hempy Headquarters

I have three Borderline XTRM in flower right now. 2 are identical as far as growth and shape but the third is like a whole nother phenotype. It is tall and leggy and looks way different. I am going to grab some clones from the tall leggy one and see what they do. I am just learning to take clones and I am taking them from everything just to get practice in. God help me if they all keep going and grow. i'll be needing a new tent.

This was how I once ended up with 10 clones of Carnival and had to turn my bathroom into a flowering room. Just a little heads up. :laughtwo: I wasn't anticipating a 100% success rate, but I have yet to lose a cutting. My technique is so successful I only take a single cutting when I flip a plant.

Hi hempire friends I jus had a quick question when I feed my hempire girls i dump the old water if any is left out as much as will come out but this time i noticed a smelly smell that smelled.......... smelly  but seriosuly it was like lake water or a really really light smell of dead fish or sumthn idk it wasn't strong but definitely could smell sumthn is this normal or am headed for disaster i jus hope it's not root rot or sumthn but wudnt the plant be lookn shity not good lol

I'd been meaning to mention this. It's a smell you get when the plant isn't big enough to be hitting the reservoir and draining much of the water before the next watering. Like Jim suggests, a through flush is all that's called for. I empty any remaining water before I do the next feeding. In this way I'm sure I'm getting all of it flushed.

I had the same smell at the bottom of the pot I took the root ball out of yesterday. That plant never hit the reservoir with her roots, despite being in that pot for half of her 137 days, which explains the smell.

What technique do you use? I am taking a bunch because so far it seems to be about a 50% survival rate 5 days in. Getting that rate up would be very helpful. Thanks

Lembatoast taught me to clone. Here's his method. TOAST teaches us to clone

I've modified it somewhat. Working in LOS over the years taught me the powers of aloe. I start my cloning by cutting an aloe vera fillet and blend the gel with distilled water. I never really measure, I just cut off an aloe branch and use it.

After I remove the gel I save one of the aloe skins aside. After I scrape the outer bark off the lower part of the cutting I'll set the prepared cutting in the empty skin while I prepare the hempy solo. There's still aloe gel in there and I want the cutting branch coated before I dip into rooting hormone.

Taping off the hole on the hempy solo I fill the cup with the aloe water so it can saturate the perlite. Then I untape after a couple minutes and let it drain. The cutting comes out of the aloe skin, gets dipped into the rooting hormone and placed in a hole in the perlite I made with my finger. Close the perlite up around the stem, place it in a bag and close it off.

Check every three days, to replenish the CO2 when you reinflate, if nothing else. I don't check for roots until 14 days have passed.

I started off using Rapid Rooters, the same way, but in smaller cups, and without perlite. When you use this method you need to turn the Rapid Rooters upside down for greater stability and you need to make certain there's always aloe water in the cup that the plug is sitting in. Small pebbles in the cups keep the plugs from tipping over. They set roots in a week to 12 days in most cases. Now I just do them all in a hempy solo and transplant into the chosen medium.

I have yet to lose a cutting. Some of them gave me pause, but they all survived and thrived. The big secret is to keep them from the light. I keep mine under low lighting, and when I bring them to the veg shelf they take a few days to get up to 24" from the quantum boards.

im super stoked now that i got some actual hydro nutes so now that i got a good start on the remo line i figured mite as well switch every1 over since im seeing some light colored leaves on a few of my girls i dnt think these bottle nutes i been using which is roots organic work very well atleast 4 this setup in soil it seemd to do great but yea hopefully the girls like there new food source i think they will take 2 it pretty good atleast i hope so lol

Way to go Jones! Taking the craft seriously. :laughtwo: Your plants will love you.

I hope so lol im about to start mixing up a batch rite nw come to think of it lol i still can't quite bring myself to quit soil altogether tho so 4rite now im doing both lol

I can't make myself walk away from the kit either, :laughtwo: so I'll also be running soil and hempy, just mostly hempy, and with smaller pots of soil. I'll be using five-gallon pots for soil from now on, for the most part.

Same here with the 5gal soil pots

Hey everyone ...got another noob question ... how often should I water my cuttings that I have in hempy solo cups ...they were started in rockwool cubes and recently transfered to the solo ... I know it's about every couple of days 9nce the roots hit the res .. but until then do you water daily so they don't dry out ?

You probably will not over water a rooted cutting in perlite hempy solo cup. Do not let the roots dry. :bongrip:

OK thanks alot MagicJim !! I kinda figured as much ...but I'd rather be safe then sorry lol !!

I water them every two days, but my solo cups are set up like mini hempies. You can't overwater hempy. The system runs on water.

Hey every1 hope all ur grows are up and going smooth i had a question about using nutes im currently using remo nutes now shud i be using nutrients everytime i water the girls or shud i ph balance cal-mag ro water every other watering?? Thanx every1 4 the info n help

Do Remo nutrients require pH adjustment? If so you adjust it every watering. You feed them with every watering too. It behooves you to determine how much water they'll need so you don't end up mixing too much and having to toss it. I don't store any mixed nutrients. I only mix enough for the plants I'm watering at the moment.

I think u need to ph im not sure I think pigeons 420 said he does and rifleman i believe said he didn't so idk but im phing to 5.5 and i add nutes everytime so far so good lol but it's only been 3 days this will be my second watering and I jus mix up a gallon n jus end up with alil bit left over barely nuthn so it dnt bother me to toss it its like less then a cups worth at the end

With rockwool cubes, every day might be too much. I'd say evey 2-3 days like a more well rooted hempy.

BUT I haven't used rockwool cubes in 3 years - they hold water like a hempy reservoir.

Just starting with hempy here - my veg area is half converted (4 in soil, 4 in hempy)

Great job rad and good luck with the switch to hempy im still doing soil as well i just can't bring myself to fully quit soil and go fully hempy plus while I learn to grow hempy style n how 2 get the most of a yield doin it this way ill keep my soil girls going but if i find out that I can train them up better or sumthn n get more yields then I do in soil then I mite fully switch over but 4 now atleast 4me its both doing a los mix for soil and hempy pots for hydro so a good mix if i dont say so myself lol

Hempy Update - Blue Dreams - Flip + 40 days

Small pots are 0.7 liters. The slightly larger pot is 1 gallon.

Last week sometime I decided to supplement the Osmocote + with some Foxfarm bloom nutes at half strength. Let's just say I wanted to have some additional input to the bloom development stage and that I wasn't confident that the osmocote + was leaching sufficient K and P. The girls have a little bit of frost developing and I love the leaf shine. They are pretty....just don't appear to me to be as far along as I think they should be.

I did not adjust pH while I was using Remo in dwc. Only adjusted the plain water I added back to keep the reservoir level up between nutrient/water changes.
