I've been using the larger perlite thru the pots. It's easier to work with and provides the same results. Save your smaller perlite for making clones and remove those rockwool cubes from the equation.
I feel you're not getting as much as you could from them. Veg them bigger and get 2 or 3 big branches rather than 1. I think the size will support more growth, especially with a full 12".
Try out some 6" diameter tubes some time. I found the size to be juuuuuuust right.
So... usually one paints things black to block light. Of course, there's a small trade off when we paint things dark colors. Dark colors absorb heat. If your pot is thick enough on it's own to block the light, white would be the optimal color. I say these words because I feel the PVC you're using may be thick enough to avoid the need for further light blocking.
