Hempy Headquarters

When I have to pH adjust I follow Tead’s lead at 5.5 and I’ve had great success with that.

I don’t care to pH adjust, and because of that I invest in RX Green.

I’ve been picking beez’s brain again. When he’s upping the nutrients he watches for the early signs that the plant has reached its threshold, the sidewise curl of the leaf being the first sign, and not one that necessarily means “Stop!” as much as it means “You’re close. Proceed with caution.”

The next sign would be a downwards curl.....

...and finally, the ultimate sign, the whitening of a tip, suggesting nutrient burn.

The plants pictures here are all in 2 liters of soil, but the control of nutrients is used in a uniform manner across his growing mediums.

Today he took the DDA out to prep for an upcoming harvest.

Micro hempy harvest today.

(Punto Rojo x Unknown) x SSDC 28oz coco/gravel hempy

Purple Afghani x BCBD Purps 12oz coco/gravel hempy

One of my favorite grows was the tiny pots I closed out with in Pittsburgh.

Being as I live in an apartment, it is nice to be able to tear down the tent and fit the ladies in a rubbermaid tote instead of having to get a plant sitter on short notice.

Also I still grow with 1tsp/ga Maxibloom and use white vinegar as ph down as needed. 11/13 from seed.

We’ve had a number of members do well under 12/12 or 11/13. I’ve always been amazed at the many ways we can find to keep ourselves out of the marketplace as much as possible. Having been an apartment dweller subject to sudden inspections, I can identify with and respect the small pot mentality.

You’ve adapted it well to suit your needs and obligations. And played mad cannabis geneticist to boot! :high-five:

At 12/12 many of my Punto Rojo crosses really take forever to get flowering. Knocking that hour off works great to jumpstart the process and possibly shortens my flower time.

Still playing Sue. Soaking 6 of my Devil's Pitchfork F2s as I type. I built a little box to run 24/0 in search of autoflowering traits. This summer I plan to make Columbian Gold x (Punto Rojo x Durban Bubble) seeds. Stay-at-home dad has to keep busy somehow.

I can’t think of a better hobby to keep your creative juices flowing. :hugs:

Solo Cup Hempy Germination - Peace of mind at last

I’ve been privy to beez0404’s germination technique from the beginning, a mirror of Tead’s with the adaptation away from Osmo +, and quite frankly I’m amazed at how easy the method is every time I use it.

1. Fill a solo cup hempy with perlite.
2. Tape off the hole and fill with 1/4-strength nutrient water until the perlite floats.
3. Let the perlite soak as long as you feel necessary before draining.
- BrixNewb and I soak for seconds before draining to the depth of the reservoir, and leave the hole open.
- Beez soaks for hours and drains to about an inch above the reservoir, leaving the hole taped shut.

We all three have similar results: seeds sprout within three days. :yahoo:

4. Drop the seed, as is (no pre-soaking necessary) into a shallow hole and cover with perlite, just as you would if it were soil.

5. Cover the cup with some type of clear top or dome. Brix and I are using partially-filled solos with a beverage lid. Beez uses inverted clear solo cups that sit neatly on the base sprouting cup.

Beez also does a couple hints I don’t do, such as set his cup on a seeding mat to encourage growth and set the cup off to the side away from light, where I’ve always set my cups out there under the light with no thought to heat supplementation.

Results are hard to dismiss.

My results, and those of BrixNewb, all using slightly different approaches, are in keeping with what I’ve watched beez achieve.

After germination this seedling can easily be lifted from floating perlite (tape off the hole and flood) and be transplanted into any medium.

Have fun. :Namaste:

That’s great! I just did this also.

I noticed the s-curve in the stem. This usually happens when the tap root has to reorient itself. Uses a bit more energy, and takes a bit more time. It happened on mine too, even though I tried to orient the seed point up. Probably disturbed when I covered it up or poured water over it.

One thing to try in the future is plant the seed tap root up. When the seed orientates itself it helps knock the helmet off.

I've now placed a total of 12 seeds in rockwool cubes. I am not happy with the results. Getting a giant bag of perlite into my apartment could lead to tragedy though.

@FelipeBlu I have been placing them pointed down recently. Now I see why I might be having problems. Never a problem when I used to just toss them in with no care as to orientation.. doing things bass akwards, I am.

My hybrid's seed shells are super solid. They require scarring or they refuse to open. Helmet head sucks. I will remember to place the seeds properly next time... which should be tomorrow.

In my world helmet head is best handled with drops of water applied to the helmeted seedling and left alone for a few before attempting to remove. I use a pair of toothpicks after swelling loosens the casing. The hardest part is leaving it alone long enough to let the water do it’s magic.

Day 4, and 5 of the 6 are up. :yahoo:

If the problem is germination see about locating a small bag for that use. You’re doing well growing in your medium. Also, I order from the rain forest and it always comes in a box that has no identifiable markings. The bag is easy to carry, just a little bulky.
