Haight Solid State vs. H.G.LED

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

Hi SS, still loving your grow.

My opinion on when to chop, let each plant ripen appropriately. If one light finishes plants before the other, that will be noted in your journal and taken into account by viewers. But if plants are all chopped at the same time even though one set is not finished, the unfinished set will never complete, leaving an info void. The unfinished set might ultimately result in a better crop if allowed to ripen but we will never know that if they are cut.
This is a comp grow after all, not a race.
I wouldn't take down an entire crop because one plant finished early, nor would I take down all of a comp grow because one light finished early. I would even let the bottom of my plants go longer in a personal grow if they weren't ready when the top was, not that I think you should go that far with individual ripening in this comp grow.
Just my opinion, I'm happy to leave the final decision to the grower.:nicethread:

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

Just a few random snapshots I took early this morning on day 31 bloom. I'll try to take some better ones tonight.

Mrs. Sun has weighed in on the controversy, and her opinion is that I need to help her paint the bathroom before her sisters fly in from Michigan to visit.
It would not be wise, nor in my best interest to debate this point ;).

I'll try to take some better pics tonight, if possible.

Replaced the blue buckets with some 3-gallon nursery pots. No worries about off-gassing, and they are a much more stable platform also. Thanks again for watching out Gator ;).

Once again, great photos. Good luck with the in-laws...speaking of which: my mother-in law is still available to assist with tent-stretching and bare-fingered-electrical circuit testing. Plus, she's from the midwest too and would keep good company with your wife's family. She doesn't eat much and almost never off-gasses either. Just PM me and I'll gladly send her your way.

Starting to snow :peace:

It seems like a lot of people are noticing the delayed bud development, but they seem to be getting pretty frosty. :peace:

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

My head hurts! I came upon this thread this morning and it's taken me all day to read (at the moment) 68 pages. It has got to be one of the best threads that has ever been published. The technical information offered is astounding. At times, this was reading like a good adventure story.I applaud the vendors for letting this happen.
And you SS have shown a perfect textbook grow.
I'm more excited to see how this ends than the adventure novel I'm currently reading.

Hanging on every word and picture... :woohoo:

More great stuff!

Hope the painting went well.

Question: What is that fan in the middle on the floor? I've been looking for something like that for under my scrog.

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

so day 31, done stretching, and time to get fat. looks like a solid 3 nodes deep for the top colas. not bad. both sides are looking like they are gonna nug up nice. nice canopies forming under the main colas.

very nice my man.

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

Hey SS, lookin sweet! As usual!

I thumbed through the pages here but couldn't find where you have the distance of the light from the tops currently?

Sweet stuff man! I am lurking around. hehe

I've carefully read and considered all the responses relating to the issue of chop time, and I'm going to think about it for a bit longer, and give it a little more time for others to chime in.

A big :thankyou: for taking the time to express your thoughts. Rest assured that they have been extremely helpful!

I took some more pics, but it's bedtime, so I'll upload them later today.

Have a great week!

LMAO!

Mrs. Sun has three sisters and they're all coming.

Should be quite the hen party already, lol.

The man-cave will be stocked and rigged for extended duty ;).

While your offer to share your MIL again is extremely kind, I've already borrowed her once and I know how terribly you must have missed her. Imposing on your generosity so repeatedly would make me feel guilty, so I am forced to pass for now ;).

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

Hey bmarduk, Love the quotes! And SS certainly is a very respected grower here. I think his previous thoughts and his asking the communities opinion only reinforces how unbiased and fair he is remaining throughout the duration of this grow. :peace: to all.

Been out of town....just caught up. In such a hurry, no time to type grammatically correct sentences.

Harvesting time is an "art." Who says the triches are 50/50? You do!

Pre-planned date of harvest is a science. Who says it's day 63? The calender!

The seeds were germed the same day, have been given the same nutes and water, in the same soil. We're testing lights here.

IMO, you must harvest them the same day, within hours of each other. Otherwise, you're letting one plant grow longer than the other....which makes any comparison regarding yield impossible.

Analogy:
Let's say were testing MPG in cars. The correct way to do it is drive each car, the same speed and distance on the same road, the same day, within minutes of eachother, measuring wind speed and temperature, etc.

Do this enough times to get a true comparison and you have an accurate measurement of each car's mpg.

Now, imagine the same test, but with one car that gets to drive longer than the other....not a true test.

Chop 'em the same day to be scientific.
Chop 'em when they're ready for the best product....but the science goes out the carbon filter.

The painting went well, which is encouraging, since painting together has always been a real challenge for our relationship, me being a perfectionist and all ;).

The fans I'm using right now are 4" Massey fans, usually available at X-Mart in season. They're also available on ebay. They're only 1-speed fans, but it's a good speed for circulating air and not thrashing the plants unduly.

I also have a couple of 9" Lakewood fans in the same basic design but larger. They are 3-speed, and the "low" setting is perfect for circulation duty. Massey also makes a 9" 3-speed fan of very similar design to the Lakewood, which are also good.

thanks for following papa green!

My opinion on chopping

This test is about how well each light produces the end product. As we all know the exact timing of the chop weighs heavily in determining some of the characteristics of the end product: potency, taste, yield, etc. If you chop each plant / group when they are at the same level of maturity, any differences in total time, potency, taste, yield, etc. provide useful information to compare the two lights. If you simply chop them all at the same time those data have less meaning.

Thanks for the assessment brother wheelo!

It's very reassuring to hear that both groups seem to be doing well from an experienced grower.

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

Dude check for me inside her luggedge.LOL..... I'll come and help paint..I hate the winters here...

Personally, I think there should be a law that prohibits all four of them from gathering in the same location, but I must be somewhat guarded in what I say in case they ever read these journals, lol.

:ciao: ;)
