Haight Solid State vs. H.G.LED

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

Yes, started from seed.

This is my first grow with Barney's Farm Violator Kush.

Hey SS I went back and looked through the journal....you vegged these 4 weeks from germination and flipped them...I'm wondering if the strain needs more time to mature...Viper and doc have experience with the strain but since you started from seed a plant always needs a certain time to mature before flowering a problem you don't have when taking clones since they're as old as the mother. I'm wondering if you 'll have to spend more then 8-10 wks flowering. Or are we making mountains out of molehills...LOL

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

They were vegged for one day shy of 5 weeks, from Jan 16 to Dec 19.

In any case, if we allowed them to veg any longer than they did, the issue would be a moot point because coverage would suck and so would bud production.

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

I would need 17 oz's to get 1 gram/watt out of my 3 ladies....wet maybe haha. Does that count? :grinjoint:

I would like to see 4 of them on the same plants and see the results or at least 3. Then compare versus a 600 HID in a head to head watt for watt fight!!!

I refuse to guess numbers though....no bad juju, already have been BALLSMACKED by my two little "ladies"....open hermi ballsacks (not nanners) 4 of them from my lack of vigilence....No clue why I wasn't looking, I mean Lilbit threw them...why wouldn't I assume. Sometimes I wonder how I dress myself. :ganjamon:

Hope these ladies stop like Lilbit did or I have already been thinking complete removal of the weaksauce lower stuff period if they won't stop this wicked behavior (BAD GIRLS) as that is where the ballsacks mostly grow.

Keep up the good work bro, hope those lights perform well enough to harvest a decent crop for your hard work on this comparison grow.

:peace: my friend. +rep

only if you smoke wet weed ;).

Or a single 600w LED straight up against 600w HID. That would be cool too.

Sorry to hear that bro.

So far, so good here, but I'll keep checking under their skirts anyway ;).

thanks bro, that would be nice, very nice actually, but it's been a fun ride no matter what the outcome ;)

thanks for your visits and positive energy, my friend ;)

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

HEY, I have smoked wet weed, I am not too proud to admit it...LOL

You never have? I remember as a [younger] I use to sprout all the seeds I got from bags in my room with my blacklight while I slept...they grew hideous, but I smoked them too..... Don't think I ever even got a buzz, but the psychological was big :ganjamon: and there is a tiny bit of taste maybe.

:peace: brother.

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

So I just hung my new 288w LED next to a 250 w/ internal ballast in my closet and fired them up. So far so good. It cost me $755 to get it here and $60 to tweak it. That's $815. A new 250 watt internal ballast housing plus the accessory fan, lens for aircooling and 50,000 hours worth of bulbs (7-8) would cost about $850!

Love this journal SS! You've got the makings of a great guidebook here!

Your Plants look very healthy. :bravo:

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

Let hope toward the end you wont use a bic lighter to show the size, more like a beer can, like someone else did...

Reminds me of as a [younger] trying to catch a buzz by smoking 10 joints of Nebraskan hemp leaves, lol

thank you Cephas!

How are you planning to use your two lights? Are you using them together or separately?

Please let us know your impressions as you compare their performance.

The better HID bulbs are expensive, so you do have to factor that in when comparing total expense.

thanks again man! I appreciate your visits and insights.

;)

light penetration doesn't seem to be a problem yet.

I'm still amazed at the sheer amount of plant mass that these low-wattage lights have produced.

The HGL, over four good-sized plants, seems to be working fairly well at 8-10" off the canopy. At that distance, the 60 degree window seems to be at the sweet spot between coverage and intensity for this grow.

I thought the HSS would have more penetration issues because of it's wide angle, but it reflects a lot of light sort of infuses it all around the plants. It may be diffuse light, not focused, but a large percentage of the foliage in the HSS tent is being illuminated.

glad you're onboard!

And we appreciate you showing us how this is suppose to be done!

In all honesty I don't have time to do a journal right now. I go to night school for my MBA and CPA. It's kicking my butt. My hope is to do a comparison grow between the lights starting May 1st. Finals are the last week of April!

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

I realize it's a bit late in the game to be mentioning this discrepancy, but it appears that the products being compared are inherently unequal in terms of power. That is, the HGL panel being used is intended to replace a 400 watt HPS while the HSS panel is intended to replace a 600 watt HPS.

Am I failing to understand something very simple about the nature of LED lights, or is this an unfair comparison of the technologies of HGL and HSS?

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

I'm sure you will get a more in depth answer, but the manufacturers agreed to the comp grow. The lights have different engineering such as the reflector angles and one is fan cooled and one is not. I didn't have time to go back and see the specifics but I'm sure you can look or someone will elaborate :peace:

I'm here to see what a seasoned grower can do with these things...I think which light wins is secondary.

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

it's impressive how quickly the technology takes shape. we should probably credit to 420, to a degree, being that you know sponsors are reading this stuff... and big grow productions like GHS do intense research but all this diversity, all these different minds and opinions and circumstances...the additive knowledge of it all will grow our knowledge. Already they've overcome initial prob's with LEDS and digital ballasts...I like it because it's stealthier (I don't use them..yet), the ability to grow is becoming more available to the common person (still too pricy though), and that in it's own right will help it get legalized, or decriminalized, for the whole country. I'm hoping for that. the Feds gotta wake up to the will of the people. How can they stop a plant that God himself sees fit to grow? If you're not a person of religious faith, Mother Nature sees fit to grow? With so many people on board with the idea, and so many products at our fingertips, like prohobition of alcohol, it will make less and less sense as the days pass. I hope.
