H00k's Not So Hillbilly This Time Grow - Girlz 2017

I'll probably save up and get a portable A/C unit...can then duct it to one of my exhaust vents...will be a lil' more discreet...cheerz...h00k...:Hookah:

If you're talking about regular consumer-level stuff and not those $3,000 things that have two "arms" that you point whechiver way you want and a ton of frigid air comes out... I looked at about (∞ -1) reviews/reports/ads/videos/company websites this year trying to find Mom one. And my advice is... Well, my advice is they're all pretty much only about three steps removed from being steaming piles of dung, so don't buy one. But if, like Mom, you'd rather get something that's less efficient, has less actual cooling ability, is less durable, noisier, more intrusive into your space, and generally an all-around poorer choice than a halfway decent window unit, lol whilst still being more expensive...

Then make sure you get a dual-hose unit. Consumer reports tested a bunch of single-hose units a while back and basically suggested that a person would be better off with a fan :icon_roll. Dual-hose units are generally better all around. Especially if you're willing to use insulated duct-wrap type stuff to cover the exhaust hose, which will give you a couple percent cooling advantage. It's somewhat minuscule, but it helps (and it can sometimes help with perceived interior noise, if that matters even a little bit). And it's just a relatively small additional one-time fee, so probably worth it.

You know that generic universal cut-to-fit filter material stores sell for window a/c units? Another popular suggestion is to spend a couple dollars for some of that and cut a piece to cover the unit's intake hose opening so as to prevent it sucking dirt/debris in. Which will make it last longer and probably lessen the degradation of its cooling ability over time.

Mini-splits are cool - but expen$ive.

One brand that seemed to be generally well regarded is Whynter. I don't know off the top of my head what your heat burden is. Eye Hortilux has an online "watts to BTU/hour" calculator at:
BTU Calculator, Watts to BTU/HR | Grow Lamps
...so you can simply add up the (actual) wattage of all your lights and punch in the number. Factor in the size of the space (I think most charts use either an 8' or 8.5' ceiling height as a "regular room" down here in the land of supersized fast food and welfare recipients. Not sure how that gets figured up there in Canadaland. And you're probably well aware that getting one that's too large is as bad as getting on that's too small, so IDK if this would be the proper cooling capacity, but:

The Whynter ARC-14SH has cooling, fan, dehumidify, and HEAT modes. The H in the model stands for heat pump. Could be a useful feature for you, lol. Although, because it's an actual heat pump instead of an infrared heater, it'll cease to function below a certain temperature. But hey, that model is around $472 on Amazon and the ARC-14S (no heat) is only $30 or $40 cheaper. It's rated at 14,000 BTU cooling and slightly less heating (11,000, 13,000, something like that).

BtW, a dual-hose unit - unlike a single-hose unit - won't be constantly sucking in the air from your grow, using it to cool the compressor, and then exhausting it outside. That's probably a handy feature for a cannabis grow :rolleyes3 .

Wow, man, liver spots... I'm younger than you and I don't think I had any before April or May. Probably have like 50 on my arms now. Is that... more than average? I've never been old before, so IDK.

Whynter sells at least one dual-hose 12,000 BTU unit, too. And some others. Haijer or whatever it is, I think they also sell $119 40" HDTVs, lol, is another brand. Got... okay reviews. There's a Japanese model that's higher priced and appears to have less features. But it might be manufactured in Malaysia or some sh!t instead of the "Peoples" Republic of China. What a name for that country, huh? Like if EEEEE-Ran decided to change its name to "The country that doesn't finance 90+% of the world's terrorfookers, honest." But I digress, regress, and surely aint gonna confess. Plus I need to get some sleep because my body thinks it's still... Tuesday? Nope, I got a couple hour nap right around daylight Wetnessyday morning. So Wednesday. But, yeah, there's more fog between my ears than menthol and carbon monoxide right now. Speaking of which, I seem to have smoked almost all my cigarettes, lol, and I've been trying real hard not to roll up cigarettes made out of tobacco that was recycled from the ends of cigarettes that was made from the recycled ends of cigarettes, because that extra run causes the result to end up being too tarry and not nearly enough menthol... olly? Plus, I ws using my favorite pair of curved hemostats as a back scratcher earlier and I must have put 'em down somewhere. So, yeah, I need to find the SOB so I can just smoke this one down to nothing and not end up being tempted to reroll the reroll, lol. Because I can pretty much take or leave just about any drug on the planet - except for nicotine and menthol, which I'm going to take before I leave, if you know what I mean, so that's fooking HOT man. Hmm... and too short to relight. And that's a real problem. Not like when it's 90 degrees out and snowing, that could be the wrost day of your life if you live near a volcano (or, possibly, a very, very good one if you're vacationing in points south of Mehico, maybe? IDK, I've never been south of the boarder except for that little brunette that was renting the loft out that one time, and, well, she just shouldn't have bent over in front of me. So I probably could use one of those naps right about

Geezuz Buddy...that's two novellas in one day!!......J/K...Thanks for the info...I have a portable Whirlpool model that I use for the house and actually works well for the couple/few weeks we actually need it...I'm not gonna' worry bout' it this year...but...thinking it would make sense to take the house unit and put it in the shed...it wouldn't have to be in the grow room...I still have enuff' space outside of the 2 grow spaces to accommodate both an A/C and smaller dehummer and then plug both into a thermostat/humidistat combo controller...we'll see...If I went that route...then maybe get a mini split for the house...(they are so frikken cheap in Mexico, but wouldn't conveniently pass as a second piece of luggage...lolool) years ago when we put the basement under the house, the gas company told us no way we would ever get gas...so no furnace/central air...three years later, there they were running the line...Geeze!...anyways...gotta' go and reread the short story Ya' sent this morning...started that before coffee when I wasn't fully awake...and...well...you know...:hmmmm:......cheerz...h00k...:Hookah:

great read...thanks for all the info TS...

Yeah, too much info. And DOGGONE IT, no edit button at this point in time.

Geezuz Buddy...that's two novellas in one day!!....

I must have forgotten about ^^^THAT^^^. I'm sorry, everyone. Note to self: Do NOT post when I've had eight hours of sleep in... four? days, especially after realizing that I've turned a long-term train wreck into an utter disaster. Mental clarity - and judgment - is, sadly, lacking at that time.

If I went that route...then maybe get a mini split for the house...(they are so frikken cheap in Mexico, but wouldn't conveniently pass as a second piece of luggage...lolool) years ago when we put the basement under the house, the gas company told us no way we would ever get gas...so no furnace/central air...three years later, there they were running the line...Geeze!

I lived in a place south of here for a year that had no natural gas (in the region, AfaIK). There was an oil tank. That was not all that much fun. Then, years later, when I was married, I ended up renting a decrepit old farmhouse because it was cheap, in the middle of nowhere, and on just shy of 50 acres of woods (was a farm 100+ years ago). That house had PROPANE. If you're looking for a place to live, and you see that word... Don't. Just... don't. I forget how much I paid to fill that <BLEEPING> tank up. I remember it was more than a week's pay at the time. Now I grew up being able to see my breath indoors all Winter long, so I'd have been happy to set the thermostat on 55F and not even given it a thought. Because, you know... Put on a sweater, FFS, lol. But the wife, IDK. So our humble abode - did I mention that it was a decrepit OLD house? There was some question as to whether it was built in the early 1800s or the last decade of the 18th century. They got around to adding indoor plumbing in like 1981. They... never did get around to adding insulation :icon_roll. The house was nice and toasty - for less than a WEEK. We had a little 6" ceramic "cube" heater and NO propane. And that was how we spent the Christmas holiday that year, lol.

I've got natural gas here. If I ever move, I'll check to make sure the prospective residence has natural gas. And then[/] I'll go on to check to see whether or not it also has far less important things - like a solid floor ;) .

Hey, I have an idea (I know, I know - but THIS is a good one ha ha). Next time you get ready to leave Mexico, buy the cheapest motorhome you can find that'll actually make it home (should only be a few hundred bucks down there, because I could probably find one for less than a grand here in Redneckville). Pay someone $25 to stick a complete mini-split setup on/in that RV as if it's the thing's air conditioning system. Then drive it home, lol. Afterwards, sell the RV (probably for scrap) to cover the cost of fuel.

Okay, it wasn't that good of an idea. But it was probably better than the time I thought it'd be smart to build a little(?) fire inside the old oil-fired furnace so the fan would kick on and blow SOME heat through the ductwork of that old 1960s-era mobile home (call it what it was - a house trailer, lol) the time I ran out of oil. That... well, it could have been worse, I guess. No fire departments had to be called, at least.

reread the short story Ya' sent this morning...started that before coffee when I wasn't fully awake...and...well...you know...:hmmmm:....

You decided to go back to bed and see if maybe tomorrow starts off a little better? LMFAO. I will try to restrain myself when I'm the mental equivalent of a zombie (err... potted plant?).

hehehe...Good stories Bud...I've stayed at a couple places with oil heat...works OK, but stinky(apparently efficiency wasn't a "thing" 40 years ago...lolool)

...if I was to ever pick up and drive a vehicle back...would prolly be a mid to late 60's VW Beetle...there are some very nice ones and I have always loved them since my first one in 69'...have a good weekend...cheerz...h00k...:Hookah:

You're not kidding about that. That old farmhouse I mentioned... I initially thought, "One furnace will never be able to heat this house." Then, when it kicked on, I could hear the <WHOOSH!> of ignition clear up in the kitchen (and with my ears ;) ). A few minutes later, I was amazed. Not as amazed as I was at how quickly it ran me out of propane, of course. And that was the house's "new" furnace - the old one was still in the basement (long unused and, very likely, unsafe to use). It was one of those monstrosities that had "spider arms" coming out of it, great big round ducts that went... I suppose one to each room, with large floor grates. I'm guessing heat was via convection with no fan. That one would probably have immediately eaten all the propane, the tank, and have held me up by one ankle and started shaking to see what fell out of my pockets, LMAO.

if I was to ever pick up and drive a vehicle back...would prolly be a mid to late 60's VW Beetle...there are some very nice ones and I have always loved them since my first one in 69'.

I used to want one when I was a kid. Found one that looked okay (err... it was shiny?) in 1989 at a car lot in North Carolina, thought, "I'm buying that car!" Then I opened the engine cover to look at the engine for obvious leaks - and glanced forward... and saw clear out the front of the vehicle! No thanks, lol. I decided to spend my money on a higher quality automobile.

I ended up driving away in a 1982 Ford Fairmont Futura  . Only vehicle I ever had that would forecast rain with 100% accuracy. I'd get in it to drive off and the @#% thing wouldn't go over about 18mph. In second gear. Put it in Drive and it'd shudder, then slow down even more. And I'd have to bump it into neutral, floor it, and stick it back in gear to get it to lurch forward and start shuddering down the road. Got stuck trying to turn it around in the neighborhood because I pulled down a little slope thinking I could back up around the corner and pull away in the direction I'd come from. I put it in reverse, and it just coasted on down the hill. No rain coming, it'd run fine (err... up to about 77 MPH, if I kept it in second. About 72 in drive. IDFK?). But it was a more accurate forecaster than my knee and both my shoulders. Poor thing must have had a hard life. I know it had a hard death, lol. The cop that came to the accident scene... The accident report had a drawing of a car with boxes all over it to check the ones where significant damage was - he checked every one, then wrote "far more damage than this diagram shows" below that.

That old bug is probably still on the road somewhere :icon_roll .

have a good weekend...cheerz...h00k...:Hookah:

Thanks, bro, you do the same.

I don't suppose you need a Winter caretaker? I heard they'll let me in if I show proof of a job waiting for me, lol. I'll bring my own fishing poles!

OK...afternoon all...update time...had some pics from a week ago...but looking at them, they didn't look much different than the last set...other than the larger malawi auto...she's starting to put on some weight, but stubborn to throw out any noticeable trichs...

Wow, you're going to have a happy harvest. I didn't know your shed was that big. Put some windows in it and somebody would probably show up wanting to know how much first/last/security costs, because they're ready to move in, lol.

Actually... I could take a vacation in there right now ;) . Hmm... Looks like I'd have to sleep standing up, though...

WtF, are you in training to be dead? 'Cause that'd kill me. You know, I think if you make someone else do that, they'll call it a war crime.

Seriously, that's a pretty tough jaunt, especially when the weather is set on Punish. Kudos. My one and only distance walk was when I walked from not far outside of town, and was headed back home. And I wouldn't have made it if I had been walking to any other destination. In fact, I'd have been perfectly willing to stop halfway back and pick out a different house, but weren't nobody havin' none of that ;) .

How long did it take to complete your journey?

Loking good in the Hook garden. .

Thanks PW!...so far, this first attempt at organic is on par with previous grows...

You got nice garden going on doc, it's funny how we never have enough space. I need to pop an auto soon, dark devil. You have nice variety ...

Thanks Buck...One of those times I have to agree with an old adage...Bigger is Better...lolool...loving that new light build of yours...Great job!!...

Hehehe...Yeah, its a fair size...allows me to try multiple strains in my one shot style(although a slight lack of confidence always see's me push the limits on space...lolool)...pretty hard to rent in the off season when temps dip to minus 30/40C...lolool(hence the yearly sojourn to Maz)...
...Believe it or not, I used to be able to run that distance(30 years ago)...I'm happy to still be able to walk that with no real ill effects...other than having to stop and drain the "old" bladder...In Maz, that's prolly my daily average...I always make sure to carry enuff' 5 and ten peso coins to accommodate relief in a cantina or restaurant...my routes are often random, so an ocean pee isn't always an option...lolool......oh...bout' 2 hours more or less for the walk...

So...the first of prizes arrived today...BIG SHOUT out to...https://www.thekindpen.com...Thank You!...not exactly what I expected...but VERY happy nonetheless!!!...its so nice that the site has such great sponsors and contribute to our monthly contests...

When I checked tracking yesterday, was clearing Customs...some one took liberties...lolool...

Update from last evening...no earth shattering developments...raised one light to pretty much max over the one Mexi(she's just shy of 4 feet)...a few others are stretching a bit, and the rest content where they're at, so it seems...the Mali autos continue to bulk up a bit...but...Man!,,,they are taking their sweet time...was feeding day...bat shit...fish...and a new K heavy organic liquid...I have some Recharge(beneficial microbes) coming next week which I'll add to the regime...so...some pics...
