Grow #2: Outdoor/CFL Auto 420 Blueberry & AK-47 Smart Pots With Dr Earth Soil

Saturday is tiswas day for those from the UK, and so it is.

Everyone looking pretty good today. Started the LST on Blue 4, just a gentle lean at this point. Once it gets used to that position I'll start to lay it flatter. AK 7 is still a little slip of a thing but it's growing according to its own plan - it just hasn't made me aware of what that plan is!

Here is Blue 4 on day 22, listing to port:

Here is AK 7 on day 20, in much better shape than a few days ago:

No one seems to have suffered from the high PPM nutes so I guess that it's not a problem. I'll stick with this blend for the next watering as well before I bump anything higher.

No pics of AK 4 today because it looks about the same as yesterday. I'll get some trichome close-ups tomorrow just to have an early look.

Photo dump Sunday! Gonna be hot today through Tuesday so the next few hours may be the last bit of outside they're all gonna see for a while!

Blue 4 on day 23, with a tad more lean:

Nice brother!! Really great pics, and I’m jealous of the room you have to put your lst ties around the stalk without covering /smothering new growth. Since I don’t get notifications from your thread, & others sometimes, I’m going to find where I left off here last & catch up! Supposed to be getting cool here soon. Like highs are low-mid 70s & lows 50’s, even a couple nights in high 40’s (Fahrenheit). I wonder how low temps our blueberry autos can handle? Great day shed!!

Ok, while this is going to be a dull thread on the actual growing side, I'd like to discuss some theoretical growing situations.

Here's the first: CLONES. I know a guy who coincidentally bought seeds (photo) from the same company I did at almost the same time I did. He's growing in a 10' square shed in his backyard with one (I think) HPS light. [rant] He has no idea what he is doing and is using Miracle Grow plant food and watering with his hose and has no idea how to dry and cure. His product is crap (no buds, just a lot of tight sugar leaves) and he's giving it away to people who were previously willing to reimburse me for the cost of mine (I wanted to make back my sunk costs before I gave it away!). Maybe they'll come crawling back now that they know the difference between quality and quantity! [/rant] I tried to offer advice but he was getting his instructions from someone else and said he had it under control.

Anyway, earlier this summer he offered me a clone from the plants he was growing (he's a nice guy and didn't know he was undercutting my reimbursement plan!) but I turned him down because I was in the middle of my successful first grow. Now I'm wondering...if he has any more clones, do you think I can veg them outside and inside (so more than 12 hours of light, even if it's CFLs) through the winter and then leave them outside after March to continue on their veggie/flower journey? We'd be talking about what, 9-10 months of veg? Is that a thing? I could either do the final up-pot into the 7gal smart pots or the larger plastic one that did fine by Blue 2.

I'd be topping and supercropping to keep it from getting too tall during the winter so I could move it into the shed at night.

Any feedback on this crazy idea would be appreciated! :thanks:

Next topic after we have finished discussing this one :)

I don't see why not, I was thinking about doing the same thing if my photos would have lived. One was going outside to finish in first of Jan, & one was gonna veg until time to put it outside in April. But I killed them both sadly!

Will do. Thanks! Back to the shed I go, while my fam thinks I'm nuts. The dog likes to go with me though so I've got company!

Mine too, but......if I turn my head or body away from them to work on a plant, they're trying to graze or otherwise tip plant over. Lol

Happy Wednesday all! Here's the update.

Blue 4 (day 19) seems to have decided to be a plant after all, though that stem is looking pretty spindly considering I'll be bending it over soon. No, I still can't get a quarter to rest on top...it tipped right off!

It's a very nice cola for a plant that's really only 6" high. Unfortunately it's only 6" high!

I had some very small plants this summer as well, but they were bagseed autos from my first harvest. The ones I was able to finish...(dang cops) was good bud. We all know I had to rip up all my others. Errrrr. I'd have several plants around sixty days old now dammit!!!! Lol. 2 of them B.B. autos.

My son is leaving home/town/ state in a week so I can relate to this I'm certain I will give up rest to chat with him

The mixed feelings are crazy!! It's pretty exciting to listen to him talk about his new life but it's a jungle out there! He's well prepared and super smart but that doesn't stop the worrying. On the plus side, I'll be able to get the tent moved out of my bedroom and into the soon to be spare room.

I dread the day my babies leave man. I love them sooo much, it's gonna be a difficult time for my wife and I. But, that's life. I do know where you're coming from brother. Shit World is crazy. Mine are almost teens. Where the hell did the time go. Like a blink of an eye. No more little kids running in excited about Christmas presents under tree, tooth fairy, trick or treat, good ole snuggly kid animated movies, no more daddy, just....dad.....ok...let me stop....before I need some anti depressants. Lol

Ahhhh. Finally caught up now. I’ve got way too many subs going. Lol. Very nice rebounding you’re plants, & clones bro. Bout to sub to your clone thread now!! Just for general purpose info for anyone who cares.

I have 4 reg plants that I too cuttings, or dogs jacked up, so I cleaned up the break with some lopers, and tried cloning them. If that’s appropriate terminology for reg plants? Took cuttings, whatever. Point is, they all have roots now.

Cranberry hibiscus....got a potted cutting as gift. It grew pretty tall, leaning over, I took 5” cutting stuck directly in soil. Left out in 90’s heat over summer watching it wilt looking like wilted purple spinach. Took quite a while, (month & half), but it’s great minus bugs getting it.

Purslane....Same process...growing still.

Mexican petunia, dogs broke, stuck in 5g with hose water with some other plant they broke, but I like, left it in bucket in dappled sunlight. Two weeks or so later, roots like crazy. Will be planting soon.

Mine's 22 so I feel lucky to have kept him a few extra years. He's my pride and joy; the greatest adventure and blessing in my life. He is both the smartest and coolest guy I know. I am amazed to have birthed and raised such an amazing person (I often feel he's great in spite of, not because of me) I will certainly miss him and plan to visit as often as possible.
Later, after he settles down and starts a family, I will leave Alaska and live somewhere I can have easier access to him and grandbabies. I'll retire to WA or OR and grow outdoors For now, my tent and little ladies are filling the empty space (physical and emotional) as much as possible

Alaska refers to the lower part as "down south"? Even in tall and narrow CA we don't say "down south" unless we mean Alabama!
Hahaha. There's not much that isn't south of us . But I'm not sure what they call the southern part of the state. The pan handle maybe? Everywhere that's not alaska is referred to as "the lower 48"

I dread the day my babies leave man.

Thanks for catching up with me Moon! GreenThunder was the one whose son leaving home and the state! I dropped off my daughter at college last month but I'm driving up next weekend for a visit (hope I can still make the drive alone at my age :-0).

You have had a lot of trials and tribulations with your grows but you're improving with each one, so that's the best anyone can hope for! That and the fuzz staying clear of your block of course...

No updates today because a) I had to leave at the crack of dawn this morning for a work thing and b) they are living in the shed for the next 48 hours until the heat breaks. Supposed to be mid-90s today and tomorrow with the Santa Ana winds blowing through. Prob have to water tomorrow morning tho. Then back they'll go under the lights.

It's Friday Friday!

It was watering day for the little ones, and this happened. I mixed up the nutes, adding some extra Big Bloom per BWaff. I checked the PPM and I'm up at 980! What? So I dump that in the flowers and start again. First I check the water in the bucket. 180 PPM which is 80 parts higher than usual. Ok, but that doesn't get me over 900.

So I decided to check each step and see where it gets out of line:
Water = 180
Add GrowBig, 1½ tsp/gal and it goes to 614
Add Cal/mag, 3ml/gal and it goes to 742
Add Big Bloom, 3 tbs/gal (up from 2 last time) and it goes to 976!!

I'm hoping that since Big Bloom is not really a nutrient I don't need to count it in the PPM mix, because that's like flowering numbers if I do. I can live with the 742 PPM minus the 180 water and get 562 PPM nutes. But 976?

BWaff chime in here from Chi-town since Big Bloom is your main ingredient!

Anyway, that's what I used to water, and they each got 32 ounces.

And here are the photos...

Here is AK 7 on day 19, and not looking like much. By the way, the shiny blob on the leaf is water not Weinstein:

And here is AK 4 on day 58:

20171020_084456.jpg

I took off the wire because it wasn't doing anything any more.
So the only thing I can think of is;
Big bloom doesn't burn like a nutrient but it helps the plant uptake those nutes. I know there are microbeasties in there. I don't check ppm, so I couldn't say for sure.....but I'm thinking it may be because of them. If they are proliferating when you check, that might could do it???

They look hard as an awkward morning wood though, so seems like they liked it. I would just mellow with the actual nutes.
Think of the big bloom as a catalyst to whatever else you put in.

Tuesday morning and the heat wave continues. Everyone came out for water and a photo shoot this morning but then went back into the shed.

Same feeding as last time for everyone. The young ones got:
Cal/mag, 3ml/gal
GrowBig, 1½ tsp/gal
Big Bloom, 3 tbs/gal
plus Great White (one week interval), ½ tsp/gal

And the spog got:
Cal/mag, 3ml/gal
Open Sesame, ½ tsp/gal
Tiger Bloom, 1 tsp/gal

LST continues on Blue 4. You can see in the pic where the stem bent up toward the light so I supported that with a rock before bending the top down again. I'll know tonight how it's responding to the T8s when I compare it to this pic.

It was 74º and 43% RH in the shed this morning so I closed the window after I put the plants back in to keep some of the hot air out (the shed is almost entirely in the shade). I wonder what it's going to be in there when I get home.

Also, the lights are set to be on from 11pm to 7pm...20/4.

Hmm...thought I'd at least get a "like" in here by now. Maybe no one gets notifications from my threads anymore like Moonshine has been telling me! But since I'm here I might as well post my thoughts about this grow.

I went back and started reading my first journal, before I knew anything more than I had read from others' experience. I didn't update as often in the beginning but there are some pictures I thought I would compare side by side with this grow. I had been thinking that this grow was really slow and stunted (not like the first ones I planted that flowered at 2", but still...), but when I went back to look at the first pics, I feel better!

The days aren't exact (I could wait a few days and compare then but I'm thinking about it now) so take that into account. Looks pretty close, don't ya think?

AK_1_day_27_vs_AK_7_day_23.jpg

Blue_2_day_26_vs_Blue_4_day_25.jpg

AK 7 has less height than AK 1 did but almost the same nodes (and 4 days to go to catch up), and the Blues are pretty comparable for the being a day apart.

And that's why I feel better now. :)
