Just a random update for the evening.

Went to Wally World the other day while looking for ACs and finding that they are sold out at every store that sells AC's across the lower mainland of BC here.. Home Deport, Rona, where ever i looked. Home Depot online had all their AC's in stock tho, so i ordered from there.

Anyways, i'll get to why i got so sidetracked there. Bought a 500lb capacity 4 tier free standing shelf unit. Mainly for storage and shit. Plus i think i'm going to put the ballasts on here just outside the tent so i can keep them out of the tent and keep as many extra heat creating objects as possible outside.

Here she be! In the box cause i haven't set it up yet, derp!

And heres the reason i have been sidetracked haha

Some fresh bud! My guy got some really sticky, really dank and really really potent Tuna Kush. This has to be my favourite strain for sure. I pulled out my jewelers loupe and all the trichomes are clear.. maybe a couple cloudy ones, but damn this shit hits hard and lasts long! Joints it tastes OH so good.. in the bong.. it just kicks my ass! Enjoy a little Bud Porn!!

Here ya go C1.. I'm thinking zip ties will be adequate, as long as i can keep the fuckin flaps inside the zip tie!

The one picture i folded it up and i figure a little Indian chrome (duct tape haha) would hold the hole closed to light does leak inside. Most of the holes will have ducting in it so i'm not worried about that.. its just the holes for the cables and shit like that.

Yea the tents are pretty good! i like them so far.. I would have loved to be able to afford the Gorilla Grow Tents with the 7'11" ceilings with the optional 11ft extension, by my ceiling is only 10ft high, that wouldn't work. Unless they tiered them at certain heights.. 1 foot increments maybe? 7'11" then 8'11" and so on. I would love me a 10ft headspace to work with!


Alright.. when i said earlier that i got the timer to work, its not working. I set the timer to go off at 12 midnight, and its now 1231am and the LED light is still on in the tent. So its off to the hydro store or Home Deport to get 3 new timers since i will have 3 lights to set on time schedules. The Hydro store nearby where i got my last one was $20 and it was super easy to prepare for use, and its worked great so far!

OKay so a late night update here.

C1, thanks for the pictures. i will Macguyver something up when it comes time to get the tent running. Also, the Tuna Kush is some serious gear. Not for the inexperienced smoker!! I've been smoking for 15+ years and its one of my top faves.. heavy hitting, long lasting very indica dom strain. Cant find any seeds tho, so its a clone only strain around here like so many other killer strains i have the pleasure of smoking! Sure wish i could get a cut tho for my garden!

i walked into the tent this evening, zipped up the zippers, and pushed the flaps closed as best as i could and held the one exhaust flap closed, and that tent is light proof! Just need my fans and filters, and i can start growing in there!!

I think i'm going to get another 4x4 tent for an LED/HID grow off I have been kind of thinking up in my head. I dont think i have seen a journal anywhere that has done a direct side by side grow between an LED and HID lighting.

So heres my idea:

-2 4'x4' tents
-1 plant each tent, same strain in each tent.
- Each plant will be under scrog
- Tent#1 will be a 600w LED
- Tent#2 will be an aircooled 600w MH/HPS
- Nutrients will be the same
- Both with be grown in DWC or a RTF Capn-Style

My goal is to see the differences in growth in different stages of the plants life. Which plant grows faster, which plant is more covered in resin, which plant yields the most and which plant smokes the best.

This wont take place until the Twilight Sponsored Journal is over. Maybe they want to sponsor that one too!! i was thinking of using one of their LED's for the comparison anyways!!

Also i am giving the seedlings a watering tomorrow, since the auto feeding system isn't plugged in at the moment, as the plants are too young.

Okay so doing some research.


I am tired of waiting for these damn fans to come into stock at the place i got my tents from. Same old story.. waiting on customs to clear the shipping container.. oh its in just got to wait for customs to release to to be opened blah blah blah.. they do that tuesday or wednesday blah blah blah.. its now friday and i haven't gotten a call from them.. I want 2 6" fans, one with a filter and a 4" fan and filter.

I got loaded up in my shopping cart on Scamazon ONE 6" inline fan and carbon filter, ONE 6" fan of the same brand and ONE 4" fan and filter combo all with free shipping and my total comes to....... $309. I think thats not too bad at all!!

Now, however, I'm pretty certain Lady GreenThumb would castrate me for spending another $300+ on the grow at this point in time. Maybe in a week when we get a paycheck each and have paid some bills first! hahaha.

Ah well it gives me time to hammer out the final details of the upcoming journals and also give the clones some more time to establish a strong root mass and then i will transplant them into 1gal containers i think.

Also, i topped the Widow in 8 places yesterday to prepare for flowering in 2ish weeks. Will start tying down branches over the next week or so to get ready for the scrog!

The lady is happy that i have found us a cheaper option for the fans and such. I will get some money in the bank account tomorrow and order them up! According to Amazon, they will be here by monday! so thats a bonus too, also the shipping is free. Up next is a water chiller.. Found a used one for like 149.00US but after shipping and exchange rate, i might as well buy a new one with free shipping already sold in CDN dollars!! it will only be like an extra $50 anyways so i'd rather get brand new with manufacturer warranty still.

Oh how things are really coming together here in the GreenThumb apartment. Soon we will find out if the GF also has the GreenThumb. She's an amazing worker in the Animal health industry so she's already got a caring heart. She should be able to take care of a cannabis plant JUST FINE!!! (Probably better than me!!)

You're absolutely right Radogast, we started with the grow box and it set us back a lot financially, but it taught me a lot about growing plants of a smaller stature, the problems and irajs associated with hydroponics growing as well as taught me a great deal of patience.

I'm a chef by trade and I know you can't rush perfection. We started small, now we are ready to expand into actually growing some cannabis that will suit our needs plus the needs of my medically dependent friends.


I know the lady will love this post if yours, so thank you! Anything that calms her nerves about me spending all our money on this hobby I will gladly take!

Your very lucky to have a partner who allows you to follow your hobby. I spent a ton of cash on my setup also, and the wife wasn't thrilled to say the least, but she tolerates it. Not that she had much of a choice, because I didn't consult her. I slept on the couch for a couple of nights for that, but in the end it was worth it. Good thing she loves me

Hell yea! it was a great time! We will have to get on another tangent about things.. I might just have to hit the bong right about now! although it kicked my ass earlier tonight with a really harsh and shitty tasting toke. I was not impressed! ah well, lets try it again shall we??

Thanks for the funny words about the grow box.. I've heard many a funny comment about it!

Only issue i have with it right now is:
A. the two 400w MH inside the box got it up to like 36 degrees today inside!! i had to run it with the door wide open to keep the temps at 32! Cant imagine what it would be like inside with the HPS bulbs in!!

And B. Is still the cost of the damn thing! If it didn't cost me so much damn money.. or at least was like 2 feet taller inside for the price i paid, i would be much happier. However, it is very cheap on my hydro bill (electricity bill for everyone else!)

Other than those 2 things tho the box works great. I'm going to see if i can flower out the seedlings that i have in there right now WITHOUT a scrog inside the box. I had to build one last run cause the sativas were too stretchy, and the White Rhino's were vegged too long in the box. 4-6 weeks tops then its flower time for the plants in the box, otherwise they get too tall and grow into the light housing and get burned.

I got a feeling tho, once i get operational inside the tents, my growing temps will drop as my AC unit will arrive next week as well as i will be using 6" CoolTube Reflectors, which will have a 6" fan pulling cold air through them and exhausting the hot air outside, rather than back into the room outside of the tent, thus making the ambient air temperature being drawn into the tent not as cold as i want it, and will actually make my AC have to work harder! My plan is also to buy a water chiller for an upcoming side by side Monster RDWC grow with Cannabis 1. It will be fun!

I am making a chicken ceasar wrap and hitting the bong like 6 times before sitting down to do a picture update and some journaling and perhaps some ps3 playing as well.. depends how ripped i get!!!

Okay everyone, heres a little update just shortly after the lights went out in the grow box and the LED went out in the tent.


As anyone can read from my post above, temperatures soared to like 36.7 degrees today in the grow box with the Metal Halides in. I need to move the box i think as its cramped up against a wall and i dont think theres enough cold air in the 2 rooms right now that have my grows. I'm going to move it back to where it was, which was in my originally planned area for the Monster tent. Glad i didn't set the tent up in the living room, as the tent is very big haha!

Once the AC arrives tho, the grow box is going back into one of the 2 rooms and the doors closed to keep the cold inside! I'm hoping that with the box being in close proximity to the AC, it will draw in the super cold air and combat the ridiculously high heat in the box. The fans in the tents will do the same thing. I might add passive intake fans so that cold air is forced in to ensure that the tents stay in the right temperature range.

So heres my picture update for a few days basically. Everyone has seen a seedling or a clone. If anything exciting happens, i'll take some pictures!!

We will start with the seedlings, since i have less shots of them:
