GreenSmurf is Back with White Widow - DWC

Yeah I knew we would all want to see pics and that's half the reason why I'm not as active posting. My good cam is down so less than great pics. But as requested.

Here are some of the widow bud and seeds I harvested. Due to the size of this crop, I'm going to make some butter with the dry widow buds and plant two of the widow seeds I harvested.

Nice bunch of seeds there Smurf... that Ice looks whispy as hell. no girth to her!

I am about to harvest a Great White Shark in a few days that grew one pollen sack and pollinated itself before i could pluck the banana off the plant. I dont have very many seeds coming from this plant as i was kind of unsure that i was seeing seeds so i picked a few out just to double check that they were seeds.. Yup, they were seeds. Thankfully for me it didn't pollinate any other nearby plants in my growbox!!

but congratulations on your harvest, and your seed harvest!

Thanks guys for the kind comments :circle-of-love:

This round was not as good as I know it could have been. But here are the victories!

- With the adjustments I made to the cabinet my room was smell free! This was a huge win as it only smells when the door is open.
- I have successfully pollinated 3 plants without pollinating the whole plant!
- I have extended my seed band and have over 100 widow/widow seeds, 60+ Ice/Widow, ??? Medusa/Widow (defiantly triple digits)

As mentioned above medusa and ice will be harvested soon I first thought a few more weeks but maybe sooner. Medusa 50% cloudy.

I now have a NYPD in flower and you can check her out in my other journal below.

Ice and widow will be used for butter. I've read 1stick per 1oz and only a few cups of water. Any thoughts here?

I like to use a double boiler method. take a pot of water and heat it to a very low rolling boil then place a metal bowl on top of pot, make sure bowl touches water. add butter and melt till its the same temp as the water. use a thermometer if you have one to check your water/butter temp. i like to think of it as a steak haha... not really.. add your ground weed (i used ground bud for better quality butter) let simmer for about 3-4 hours stirring occasionally. The butter wont get super duper hot, at least it shouldnt, and the heat should be enough to extract the THC, which is fat soluable, into the butter. Once its stewed long enough (it should smell very nutty, with a hint of weed, but not burnt. i have burnt butter a few times and it sucks! not double boiler method as its low temp, long simmer.. but losing butter sucks!) you can strain it at this point.. i use 3 metal mesh sieves that i got at superstore, with cheese cloth in the top one to make sure i've gotten all the bits and pieces out. Cool it in the fridge and its ready to use afterwards. I would suuggest using it at room temperature as its easier to mix/blend/cream for baking.

dont quote me on any of this. this is just what i do, from experience. I am a chef and have been in the food service industry for over 10 years, so this is just what works for me. I do not like to use water as i feel it dilutes the potency of your butter. Water extraction is used for making bubble hash, so with this in mind i feel that an X amount of trichomes are lost when using water to make cannabutter. I have a QP of some super shitty "master kush" that this new source sold me for cheaps cause my regular guy was on vacation in france. i will do a post on making cannabutter with my particular method, and send you a link.

do whatever you feel you would be best at doing tho.. its all about what you are comfortable with! :thumb:

I like that idea Gt J! Great method!

I was more interested in knowing how much butter per oz of material. I don't want it over powering where I can't function (although that sounds great) but I really don't want to have a weak batch.

Personally, I would make the strongest butter I can make, and then dilute it as per the recipe of whatever it is I plan to make. Once the butter is made, test it, and gauge how much you think you can handle per dose. remember it takes 30-90 minutes to take effect. Once you have gauged what you think is the right amount for you, then you can decide the amount you would like to dilute as per recipe. For instance. My peanut butter cookies i make call for a 1/2 cup of butter and can make 36-48 cookies depending how large i make them. If the dose that is right for me is lets say 1/2 of a teaspoon, then lets do some math here (i'm also a chef so these conversions are my daily problems) 1/2 cup = 24tsp. So then 1/2 cup= 48 doses( @1/2tsp each) If i make a batch of cookies that i get 48 from, essentially each cookie has about 1/2tsp worth of cannabutter, which would be my ideal does (its not, but just saying!) If my recipe only does 36 cookies cause i rolled them larger, then the dose will be higher of course.

Making cannabutter and edibles with it is really about trial and error, and what is a suitable dose for your needs as well as tolerance level. For me, i have friends that love my goodies, but their tolerance level is less than mine, so when I make edibles, i usually err on the side of less potent, and end up having to eat 2 or 3 just to get a really strong stone. yet when my friends eat one, a couple have actually greened out they get so high! :cough:

My recipe generally is 1oz ground buds to 1 cup of butter. If you want to make more than 1 cup, but dont want to use either expensive buds, or smokeable medicine, I would suggest using dried and frozen sugar leaves, ground up and put into the mixture. If you have stems that are coated in trichomes, you can also use this, however i find from personal experience, that the more stem material you use in your butter, the more couch lock, and sedative effect it has as well as i find it isn't as potent, where as using only buds, it delivers a much more "up" high and doesn't really lock you to the couch. lots of laughter, and most things will become funny. Watch out though and make sure you have enough REGULAR cookies to munch on afterwards as you will be hungry enough to eat the chair youre sitting on!

This recipe makes very potent edibles when used in a batch of my tailored peanut butter cookie recipe. I usually have to advise against eating the whole cookie in one dose as the whole cookie can easily be too potent for the unexperienced! If i want a less potent batch, i mix in some regular, unsalted butter. i should mention that i use unsalted butter, that i clarify, by heating up enough for the milk solids to separate then i remove them, leaving nothing but fat(butter).

I hope you find this helpful in making some really good cannabutter!!

Sorry to hear you got unwanted seeds, I hope the seeds serve you well.
Did you just pick out the seeds or do you have a tool or machine that helped with separating the seeds?

Oh no lab, these seeds were 100% intentional. I pollinated one branch on all three of my plants with widow pollen I collected. Im happy with the seed outcome. I just wish widow and ice recovered from the heat and ph issues better. It's just not the volume I was looking for.

Oh, I am sorry I must have not remembered reading that post.

Well then congratulations on your seeds. YOU ARE A DADDY!

If I started out with a pint of ghee (clarified butter from the Indian grocery), how long would I need to warm the oil?
3-4 hours seems like a long time to activate the cannabinoids

it comes down to potency of the butter and how hot you actually heat up your fat. I try to keep my butter below 200 degrees F, this way there are no cannabinoids that "burn" off cause of the fat being too hot. I usually cook my butter for anywhere from 1 hour to 4 hours, depending how much butter i am making and how much of a couchlock effect i am going for with my baked goods.. Larger batches require longer cooking times to ensure all the trichomes have been absorbed into the fat.

read up on people who use a crock pot to make their butter. They stew it all day sometimes. It also brings out the flavour profile much more when you cook it longer, as long as its on a low heat setting and doesn't go above 220F and you burn it.

Burned butter is terrible butter. It will still get you high, but you will just want to pass out after you've eaten your whole fridge up. and it will make everything you cook with it, taste burnt
