Graytail's Cupwinners in High Brix Soil - 4x4 - 600W HPS - Perpetual

Sheesh, I got back into the Panama and man is that good smoke!

I've been avoiding it because it has such a strong punch and I already know how to get really zoned ...

But it's really nice! It has a little cure on it now and I got myself a bunch of Boveda 62s for my jars, so ooooo ... the buds have body to them - dense and crackley. I leave the sugar leaves on my buds, and even those are thick and pliable and crazy with trichs under the loupe. The cedar/pine is starting to go a little more fuelly and the stone is gaining "depth".

Apparently, this is a pretty rare purple pheno - hardly ever expressed over the entire plant like mine. It's usually shown in dark purple pistils and tops. I bagged a good one. :cheesygrinsmiley: I put one of its seeds in soil yesterday - let's see what we get.

Thanks Dennise!

Boveda is a packet that people add to their cigar humidors to keep the humidity stable - they work great for our produce, too. :;):

And if you catch them before they dry out, I found you can reconstitute them with some steam. Now all my jars are stable at 62% RH. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Just as an aside, all the 'short forms' for strains and styles and techniques here on the forum are a royal PITA for noobs ;p Is there a legend for this shit somewhere pn the forum? No worries. I'll finger it out ;)

And also, the fact that Doc's kit does well with landrace strains is exciting. That's where I would like to go. I have tried to dispell the myth of newish crosses being the strongest weed ever. I am right in believing that high THC strains are as old as God and are not a product of crossbreeding and hydro nute regemins? I like to think so ;)

Hey Cleetus!

It's all about adaptation, and the way different strains adapt to their environments. Landrace strains grew up "natural," in native soil and climate. Their roots are used to minerals, clay, microbes, rainwater and organic fertilizer from animals. One of my favorite vinyards up here grazes sheep for fertilizer. He's biodynamic. He likes ancient vines, dry farmed.

Some strains adapted in such a way to high salts that they became legends. OG Kush comes to mind.

But I get the best results from Landrace or simple crosses. There is no doubt in my mind that old school strains are just as potent as the modern strains.

It just depends on if a particular strain is grown in a way that produces what we want. The biological approach is going to do better with plants that aren't adapted to high salts.

Thanks so much Doc Bud for the shout out. I feel I have had a brush with greatness. No shit ! ;) And again, thanks for all your efforts. It's a beautiful thing.

A resounding YES to what you stated above.

I am old enough to remember imported weed ;) I suppose I caught the tail end of that world, coming of age in the 80s in the great white north. It was all labelled, graded and judged (rightly or wrongly) by country and, sometimes, region. Colombian, Mexican, Jamaican....all unique and proper in their own right. I could wax poetic for a long while but, I choose to stifle it lol

I have much love and respect for all the breeders and keepers of our beloved plant. What an amazing feat !

I am facsinated by the thought of growing true landrace strains, if they do really still exist despite eradication efforts. Going back where it all began. Pipe dream ;) Cheers Doc !

Thanks and best wishes Graytail :)

Your going to fit in real nice here Cleetus! Plus I always get a chuckle from you're name.

The landrace stuff is still available! In fact, many breeders became quite concerned about this and took pains to preserve the ancient strains.

I've got Colombian Gold, Colombian Red, Thai, and Pakistani landrace strains. I'm hoping to get my hand on more! My simple crosses grow just as well as the landrace. I only have trouble with the crazy crap. Not all of it....but the Chemdawg varieties are the most challenging.

I've dealt with them by adding bonemeal and more epsom salt top dressing. This treatment would spoil the landrace strains.

I just returned from the store where I picked up distilled water to calibrate the new refractometer. I'll post my readings from the darkstar growing in my not truely high-brix growing medium in my journal later today.

Heheh, yeah this one got the meh treatment.

I soaked it over a warm spot in shallow water overnight, the next morning it had popped AND dried out. :thedoubletake: So I poked a hole in a cup full of straight HB soil, dropped it in there, covered it up and wet it down. Two days later she's up and awake, grinning at me.

LOL, she's a sturdy one!

I initially messed around with sprouting and it was so-so. I've been 100% with germination and sprouting since soaking until they sink and putting them in dirt. Simple and effective in my experience.

Depends on the strain your trying to germinate. Like some strains need 80 degrees pretty steady to get a very good percentage close to 100%. Some strains like the crazy ones locally you can germinate at 45-50 degrees np I have this one local strain that is just incredibly tank and another that grows like it's kudzoo. They were supposedly spread by cops from humbolt who did raids and took cuts.

Some of the bought strains I've tried, you need a much higher temperature to get them to pop.

The best thing to do is either pop them in summer or use an aquarium heater down in the water. Then put each seed in it's own small plastic zip lock bag (the really small ones) and put em down in the heated water. The reason for the plastic bags is, you germinate too many together and they release this seed spit into the water when they open up. It's like a jizz fest and it's gross. Make sure to sink any floaters after day 1. Use RO water. If you let the initial stem get too big your doing it wrong- it should go strait in the media and be kept at the same temperature you germinated. I really like autos which is why I'm up on the seeds. I used to think water plop and go after that worked during the summer.. But once you start messing with a variety of strains, you'll see temperature matters (case in all crops really). You might get them to germinate but it'll be slow if your letting the temp flux or too low for the strain.

I've had a northern lights pop but in the rockwool, had trouble finding the light too and die. I opened up the rockwool and it spun around all inside and never poked it's way up and out. That's what's nice about rockwool- you can split it open and back shut to check on the progress early on.

Got any tips or wisdom for sprouting 10-20 yr old bagseeds? I have a few thousand ...
