Graytail's 4th Perpetual: 4x4 Samsung Panels

I’m busy scratching up spare change for a panel or two as well. I even had a brief conversation with ‘Kitty’. It was brief because when she opened her mouth mostly just a bunch of numbers came out* and that sent me right back to the same zone of LED confusion I’ve been in for quite a while now. Admittedly I haven’t given a dedicated push to try and decipher this stuff.
The piggy bank is already full enough to buy one or two panels now. Well- more likely just one.
I could supplement one corner of flowering for a start, to compare. I’m tempted to go ahead and just buy something recommended, even if I don’t really know what it is. (hint)

I also meant to ask, GT- with your sativa taming style in the three gallon pots, are you having to water constantly? Looking at your grow I’m guessing you’re probably in there watering pretty much every day or two anyway. I try to set mine up so I can be away from home for five days without too much extra prep. But I rig up auto-watering when necessary.
Cheers :passitleft:

The only thing about dealing straight with China is the shipping. It'll run over $100. So small purchases get expensive. That 304 board they have is nice - includes 660nn red diodes, too. I'd only suggest that you try to save some shipping cost, but that example shows you the rough costs per watt. That one is 230 watts for $163 = about 70 cents per watt. They have several board sizes, from 128 diode to 800 diode. Lemme know when your trigger finger gets itchy. :)

The 3 gallon pots haven't been more thirsty than the 6 gallon ones - need water every 3-4 days. I never really thought about it, but the plant size is smaller, too, so it makes sense. Keep in mind the small yield. Even the long tall sativas only yield 2.5 ounces at best. My mindset is foliage per gallon of soil, per biota population. Since HB is all about the soil, I see the plant as cubic canopy volume per gallon. You can grow it tall or grow it short, but it'll only give you as much produce as the soil can provide. So in my mind, the plant can't grow so large that it would need water that often. Obviously, that's not a hard and fast rule - I've had a 2 foot plant in a cup that needed water every day.

Sweet! :battingeyelashes: :green_heart: You guys have no idea....... :circle-of-love:

If I grew 3of these at a time in my tent I’d be totally happy with that amount and the variety. I need to develop my ‘chops’ cultivating the microherd awhile first, but I’m very taken with these small tall sativas

Yes, it's keeping me busy but I need busy these days. I have been cooking soil, buying more lights, RO filter, new genetics, Environmental Controller installed, dehumidifier, AC, etc.
I am ready to get serious and grow the best I can with what I have. I hope its enough and I don't fall flat on my face.

Ah. The no flat-on-face is the best part of the Kit. :)

It'll turn out better than average no matter what you do. Trust me - been there - the Kit forgives.

Well, then all I need is my shipment from Seedsman! I'm getting really excited. I am coming to organic growing from the perspective of simplicity. I originally was looking at doing something like VanStank does, but then I saw AmyGardener's Blue Dream and I was like " Wow why does that plant look so vibrant and ready to grow"! The research hasn't stopped since that day.

I try not to ask too many questions until I do the research myself and don't understand something.

From my experience, the biggest downside to DBHBB is that first month - it's SO boring.

Seriously, it's a bit of a moral buster. You're all set, ready to go with all the new knowledge and tools at your disposal and .... they .... just ..... slowly ... grow ... without needing much.

But then the fun begins when the new growth starts to explode and turn that beautiful lime color. :slide:

DC is looking tasty! I've found pot size to be one of those things that is often best dialed in after everything else. Like when you have a winning recipe, you find the right pan to cook it in. With many strains I want them to exhaust the soil so they are terpy, clean and faded at the end - without flushing. Then if you flush, they are super clean. Bigger pots give bigger yield, but far less control during the grow as well. Having a chance to correct course, every 2-3 days is perfect imo. Looking great GT! :Namaste:

Sorry, I didn't really reply to this.

That habit looks very familiar - the downward cupped leaves in the undergrowth, the sparse side growth, the slight tip curl on the fans ... It looks a lot like the one I'm growing did. It always seemed a little out of sorts to me, but if yours looks the same, I feel better. Maybe it's just the pheno habit. :)

Which cross is this? Is it one of yours?

Yup.... agree 100% Gray.
Big pots +lottsa light= big yield!

In my head, I was just adding up my total soil volume in the room, and I had 5 pots at 6 gallons and 7 at 3 gallons, so that's 51 gallons. You run 52 gallons? :high-five: Got similar yield too. It seemed like an interesting coincidence. :):bongrip:

Thanks a lot Graytail. Breaking it down to $ per watt is a great way of looking at it. The HLG site in Canada looks to be at least 3 times the cost, but maybe shipping is less. I emailed them.

I’m growing in soilless as you know so the pot size thing is a bit different though not entirely. I can grow a pretty large plant in a small pot, if I’m willing to pour enough food and water through it. But my entire grow/life usually revolves around the watering cycle and I like to be able to regularly leave for 5-7 days at a time if I have to, and I size the pots to make it so. I actually went almost three years doing that - working and staying in another town weekdays and only home on the weekends. Kind of weird, but I mostly got away with it somehow.
