And GT's HB grow keeps chugging along beautiful as ever.

I'm curious to know what your impressions of the fabric pots in the milk crates are you pleased/unhappy, gonna change over to all fabric in the future, etc? Have you done a side by side comparison of the same cuts but in the two different pots you have or do you not have enough time using the fabric yet?

Keep em green and sticky :peace:

For the first few weeks it seemed like the plastic pots did better, but I think I wasn't getting the entire rootball soaked when I watered the fabric ones so I adjusted that, and for the past few weeks the plants in fabric pots have been doing better than they would have in plastic. I've always liked the idea of fabric, but I stuff a lot of pots into my 4x4 and the 5+ gallon fabric ones are too big when the sides bulge out. I have to have square/rectangular pots to keep everything from touching. The crates work beautifully for that. :slide: I can put a 10 gallon square fabric pot in a crate and fill it with 7 gallons of soil and everything stays contained and easy to work with. :cheesygrinsmiley: I like 'em.

I only have two of them at this point, though, so I have limited experience. I doubt that I'll switch over, but I'll probably go this route for any future expansion. I still have a meter tent I haven't used, and enough extra light to run it ... :hmmm:

Did I see you put the hurt on some whiteflies? The pictures look like there are a lot less of them and those that show up look to be on the dead side. :thumb:

I saw your comment on your journal and remembered that I hadn't answered this. :cheesygrinsmiley: I had sprayed them down with SNS and shook 'em out of the plants as best I could, so ...

But I did go out and get some spinosad, and they had a whole-room treatment a few days ago. There are still some flying around but they look listless, and the spray kills eggs too, so I'll hit 'em again in a few days and see how it all progresses.

I love me some spinosad :) so far its worked for thrips and mites for me :) I think it controls and kills like 80 something different species. You can also add spinosad to your waterings and use it systemically. Was proven with tomatoes in rockwool that it did in fact control and kill when given though the roots and supposedly lasts about 3wks per application. The suggestion was to start with very low amounts to make sure it doesn't have any adverse affects. I used about maybe 40ml per 5 gallon bucket and my plants didn't miss a beat.

The CarnBs were getting too close to the light in veg so I put one into bloom today. The other will follow in a week, along with the Grin2.

:Namaste:

Hey Graytail,

I noticed on the carnivals, you have some leaf discoloration, and it looks exactly like my plants currently in veg. Do you know what is causing this pattern of discoloration? I've been leaning to a possible K and Mg and maybe Ca deficiency but still haven't managed to correct the issue. Any clue on what the cause is?

A few months ago I went through the deficiency/toxicity charts and pictures, etc, and I got the sense that it's a Potassium (K) deficiency, but it's close to so many others, too. I know this soil is typically low in K, so I imagined that might be it. It's the pale body/green veins pattern. For me, it's usually temporary, though, so I don't have all that much incentive to get down in the weeds about the problem, so to speak. :cheesygrinsmiley: It usually shows up in late veg or early bloom, and if it doesn't progress, the new growth is particularly green. That seems like it would be a toxicity that flushed away over time. (Or a deficiency that the micro herd eventually corrected ... :hmmmm:)

Hello Greytail. Just logged in to letcha know I read your journal from start to finish(took me 6 days on and off). All i can say is :goodjob: & :thanks:. You are definitely an asset to the 420mag community. Lovely work. :Namaste:

Stay frosty,
CanEye.

Gosh, thanks for posting that! One wonders how many people he's actually reaching - the ones that don't register or don't post. It's great hearing from you!

:thanks:

Thanks for the feedback on the fabric pots!

I was thinking that if you had the chance, it would be of benefit to the community and add to your own experience to run a side by side comparison. Use cuttings from the same mom and run one each in fabric and one in plastic just to see the results. No matter what you'd end up with some sweet smoke with your skills.

Keep em green and sticky :peace:

I've been hitting mine with extra Mg and K than I usually give and the problem seems to be getting better. My soil is also fairly void of K which probably is what the issue is. Thanks for the feedback Graytail! :)

Time for an update! :blunt:

After stalling Taskenti and nursing her through a nanner binge, I now discover that Rio2 has been growing nanners for what appears to be a week or more - several open, dried out husks. She was in the back row. So ... now I understand why Chan1 is looking odd, with withered pistils in mid-bloom. She's probably pollinated. But I'd like to try some Channel+ x Rio! By itself, I don't really love Channel+ anyway. It's a fabulous plant to grow - jus' don' love the buzz. But combined with the buzzy spiritual Rio? - Rio with CBD? ... yeah, I'd like to smoke some of that. :slide:

Here's Rio2 one day before chop. I don't think there'll be a lot of her, but it'll be dense and sticky. I blew the timing on this strain again. I wanted Rio3 to be in bloom when Rio2 nannered but it'll still be in veg for another couple weeks. Maybe I can get a Rio4 in bloom by the time Rio3 nanners. I sure would like some S1s. This is a great cross.

I actually think the next harvest will be Grin1. She's been looking finished for almost a week, and I'm stalling the Taskenti chop, so I'll probably take Grin1 when Rio2 is dry. That'll put her at 12 weeks, the same as her mother. I like the look of this plant, and I love the smoke. Grin2 went into the bloom room today. :slide:

And here's Taskenti. Unless this is one of those nice punchy strains with no trichs I'm gonna be disappointed. She's got another week to work at it ...

Next up is Grieg1, putting on a notable performance. :cheesygrinsmiley: This is another strain well worth growing! The stuff kicks like a mule, with the high-speed Kali Mist buzz prominently evident. In the jar it has cured to an over-ripe citrus aroma, and the first hit of fresh bud still has the light rubber tire smell. The initial rush is isolating - it pulls you into yourself while sounds recede into background noise. It's far more relaxing than the Carnival buzz, my goto high, and it's more powerful and insistent than Rio. Carnival is a smooth caffeine/dexadrine buzz just short of teeth-gritting, Rio is a bright happy flower-child kind of high, and Y Griega is mind-provoking ... compelling ... awake and alert and deeply in thought. But I'm not sure I want to go out in public, ripped on Y Griega. I might appear, y'know, distracted. Seriously, this stuff takes charge - some of the strongest I've had. And this plant looks better than the first one.

Chan1 is supposed to run another three weeks, but I'm not sure how it's going to go. I think she caught the brunt of the nanner pollen from Rio2 and may not be able to go full term. Either way, I'll be pretty happy. I already have a couple ounces if she doesn't finish, and if she does I get some interesting seeds.

Freddy's is off to a fabulous start in bloom! She sure had a nice base foundation built over all those weeks in veg - maybe it pays off now. I should give this one some special attention and see if I can nurse it past the fade and the whiteflies.

CarnA1 has started the stretch, putting on 6 inches since flip. This is the stretchier pheno, flipped at 19 inches, now at 25 two weeks later. The mother topped out at 36 inches but this one is a little slower so I'm expecting closer to 30". I'm not sure if the cuts are going to make it this time, so I hope this is a yielder. I prefer the buzz from this pheno.

This is CarnB2, clearly showing the difference in phenos. I'm interested to see how these CarnB cuts do - they were particularly robust and hearty all through veg. I suspect the soil might be perfect.

Here's Grin2, all nicely filled out, with multiple side tops - very nice. I didn;t see this behavior in the mother. It was very easy to get side shoots to develop into their own branches at the top of the canopy. I started with maybe six tops, and they each sprouted another one or two equal side shoots - a dream to train! The stems seem thin though, so we'll see how it goes when they develop some weight. Maybe I'll increase the Tea dose on this one for awhile ...

"Tales of the Accidental Breeder". :laughtwo: Some of the best I've grown in the past year was the result of a breeding accident. Let's see what wonders your mistakes bring you.

Always a pleasure to walk through the garden with you Graytail. Do try to pamper that Freddy's Best. A pretty one, that. The whiteflies are relentless beasts.

You have quite a fine collection of Carnivals going mister. It might not be fair to you to start a community grow thread. :laughtwo: I like the looks of the lady-in-waiting. She's a sturdy one. Have you discovered any secrets to growing Carnival? Anything you find yourself consistently doing? Mine kind of grew herself, it was that easy. Those two you have growing in what you termed "almost perfect" soil - I'm gonna keep my eye on them. No pressure now. :battingeyelashes:

A quarter to three. Time for me to call it a night. Thanks for a sweet ending to the day Graytail.

Move over Carnival. I think I have a new current favorite in Y Griega. Wow!

Congratulations on your accidental cross! I certainly hope it works well for you :)

And thank you for this update. Consistently some of the most beautiful plants I've ever seen. Thank you for the continuing and very detailed notes about the relative effects of the different strains -- this is so useful to those of us with less experience, which I imagine is most of us :)

Thanks again!
