GratefulBud's Summer 2023 Outside Grow

Today was chop day for the White Widow .
Popped on 4/20
Veg on 5/1
86 days in veg.
Flower on July 26.
67 days in flower. She smelled wonderful.

She was ready. Not drinking near as much and the top buds were looking dry. I could visibly see many trichs were amber but that could just be from being outdoors. Pistils were all reddish brown and recessed into the calyx. No white pistils. Sorry no pics of buds (I suck at taking pictures - especially closeups).

Just eyeballing it looks like 4 or 5 oz of primo buds with a little larf. I had already put several colas on the rack when I took these pics.

This is the plant that got hit hard by caterpillar damage (I previously removed quite a few buds). I saw very little rot - just dead bud material from caterpillars. Buds looked way better than I thought they would. Nice chunky sticky buds.

I rinsed in WATER ONLY - 3 buckets. Very few bugs, very little dirt. The netting really helps keep the buds clean.

It took 3 of us about 4 hours to remove fans, lite rinse, close trim, rinse again, then hang to dry. I must be doing this wrong. Although I have found the buds are easier to trim when they are wet from rinse, and after you do a closer trim it's better to rinse again. Very lightly. Shit, I don't know.

After rinsing and hanging to dry for at least 3-4 hours (or bud is no longer wet to touch), I'll hang them on a wire rack then place inside my drying box.

I'll monitor temp and humidity closely over the next few days. Shooting for 60˚F and 60%RH. Should take about ten days or so to dry. The portable air conditioner inside the box has a fan that runs pretty much all the time. I have the vent pointed towards the wall so it's not directly aimed at hanging colas. We'll see how this works out. I'll put about an oz inside a paper bag in the fridge just in case the drying box is a bust.

One down five more to go!

fk ya bud. nice harvest.
Thanks Regrowth!
Looks nicer than I thought it would. Took a lot longer than I thought it would.

Almost all of it is now hanging in the drying box. I took out 100grams and put inside the fridge in a paper bag. That should dry down close to one oz.

Totally stoked.

Awesome job good to see they pulled through after that drooping session from the heat on the pot .
They came out really good

Trimming always takes me forever too and after harvesting a few plants in a row I'm usually pretty annoyed by it and want to quit growing. jk. kind of... It's good you had some people to help out so you didn't have to suffer alone.

I find if I cut smaller branches I don't need to be conscious of how I'm handling them or worry about them flopping about or touching them too much. I think that speeds up trimming a bit for me but then means I need more rope or hangars too. I also just started worrying less and I'm a bit rougher and less picky now while I trim now and set buds down occasionally. Used to take me even longer man. I've never tried cutting individual buds off and trimming them that way... but maybe a drying rack might speed things up and save you that final destem step later on.

Yeah it's always a challenge growing outdoors. This year was no different but I have learned from the many great people here tips that can help overcome those obstacles.

Yeah I feel the same way sometimes - that growing is a pita. Today I absolutely love growing. The sticky nugs and sweet smell of fresh terpenes. Nice.

I've read lots of different ways to grow and lots of different ways to trim. Because I do a bucket wash I found it is way easier (for me) to trim wet. The scissors do not stick as bad. I also found that after you do a nice tight trim you'll get more cut frost leaves to fall off when you rinse again. Nice and clean. I do a gentle swish and dip. Hopefully very few trichomes fall off in the bucket.

Now that's some good look'n bud! I bet it smell nice over there.

Good job friend!

You’re gonna have a box full!
Thanks Tra!
I think I grew too much. Again.
:lot-o-toke:
Congrats on making it to harvest day!

They look very nice, and sweet setup you've got now. :thumb:
Thanks Beez!

This morning the temp inside box was 59 and RH was 89%. Yikes. This may be a challenge staying around 60/60.

I had some time today so I chopped the Watermelon Kush

Popped on 4/20
Veg on 5/1
86 days in veg.
Flower on July 26.
68 days in flower. She smelled absolutely delicious!

The recent cold weather gave her some purple hues. Sticky as hell.
This plant was hit HARD by caterpillars. I probably tossed over two ounces of primo bud. As it is I think she will deliver close to 3 ounces of good stuff along with some larf for edibles. She did not go under the netting so there was more bugs than I would have liked. Washed her in 3 buckets of water. Dip in bucket #1 , then trim, then dip in buckets 2 and 3, then hang dry for a few hours, then into the cooler drying box.

Rock on.

Sunday must have been a good day for chopping! :high-five:
Great looking harvest Grateful and another successful SFV summer grow. :bravo:

Good luck with today's happenings and I hope your trimming hand is recovered enough from the first one!
Thanks Shed!
I really appreciate your wise input my friend.

I scoped all today and the White Widow chopped Sunday was indeed ready (yeah I know - do that before chop) - lots of amber. The Watermelon Kush chopped yesterday was a little early - very little amber and some clear. Oh well. The bugs were getting to her, and I was tossing about a half ounce every few days. Mediocre bud is better than none. These nets do a great job keeping the critters away. Watermelon was not under a net.

I checked the other 4 plants and all are not quite ready - still some clear trichomes. The cold weather fooled me. I'll wait at least another week on the rest.
