Grateful Bud's Backyard Outdoor Grow - SFV OG

Thanks Bill!

I’m feeding fox farms trio plus open sesame. For a few weeks I gave just a little more often than their schedule recommended. I’m now seeing brown tips and lower leaves clawing so I’m backing off the nitrogen to see if that resolves it. Next week I’ll stop adding open sesame and start adding beastie bloomz, per FF feeding schedule.

For my particular setup the nets are working well I think. If my plants were much taller or bushier that would be a problem. Right now they get 7 hours direct sun in the morning, then are in shade around 2pm. This works well when temps get over 95F.

If I end up with 5-6 oz per plant I’ll be ecstatic! It’s kinda looking like more but we’ll see.
Fox farms oh, did you do their flush yet?

Not really. In your experience is flush mandatory for FF nutes? I've read conflicting information on the need to flush.
I've talked to a few growers using FF all had issues.
I've also read a lot of people have issues with it.
If it called for a flush in the schedule I would do it.
3x the size of the pot minimum.
I won't use it because of the issues.

So I'm out on the patio tokin' on a doobie, and I see Julie and Janice - the two Jack Herer - looked ripe for a major defoliation. They both looked like the top piece of an artificial Christmas tree. Sad little things. They went into flower too soon, then they went back into veg, and now showing pistils again, and were just . . . bushy.

Janice is not trimmed as much, but Julie got darn near lollipopped!
Note her band-aid.

I hope this works out. I've seen other short plants that are ALL buds. Not sure how to train them to do that. But I couldn't see leaving them the way they were. Too many nooks and crannies for critters and mold. I may trim Janice even more.

Good to know.

My last harvest did not have the nice aroma after cure, and is slightly harsh to smoke. I'm thinking it was because I did not flush every 3-4 weeks? Or maybe I dried too fast in the fridge. When I grind a bud it really smells nice! But sniffing an open jar it's just meh.

I'm seriously thinking about switching to GeoFlora. I like easy. Putting a scoop (2/3 cup) of dry nutes onto the top of the soil every two weeks seems really easy to me.

That I have used and recommend.
It's as easy as it comes.
Great nutrients if your in the U.S.
Hard to come by up here.
It's like finding a can of unicorn meat. ;)

Emilya swears by it - and her results justify it.
Maybe next year. I still have just about enough FF to get me through harvest.

I know a lot of people use it but unless you have bud rot issues I wouldn't defol an outdoor girl. :Namaste:
Last year I grew 2 Wedding Cake and 1 LA Pop Rocks. The Pop Rocks did the same thing these two Jacks did. I ended up with quite a bit of bud rot.

Pop Rocks last year:

Flushing the excess salts from the soil can be really helpful as you get into flower when growing with synthetic nutes (not just FF...they're all made from basically the same stuff). What it won't do is change the taste of your flowers after harvest. That part's a myth. You can't flush nutes from the flowers by giving the plant plain water.
Thanks Shed!

I'll flush with a bunch of water in the next few days.

I do it immediately after so the roots aren't looking for food in depleted soil.

usually within 24 - 48 hrs at the outside. lots feed immediately after the same day.
Thanks to both of you! I really appreciate your advice.
This morning I flushed with lots of hose water. Several gallons each pot. Runoff everywhere.

I’ll feed tomorrow.

On second thought, I fed just now.

I've only flushed a few times, but when I did, the last gallon was the nutes
So- 9 gallons through the pot, then a gallon of nutes a minute later.
I don't like going hungry, I figure they wouldn't like it either....:cheesygrinsmiley:

Thanks Carcass!
GeoFlora is looking better and better. Do you know if that also requires flush?
