Grandpa's Second Try - Come Join Us!

The seed is now in the soil. We watered the soil to run off, with water at 6.7 before planting. The PPMs were 150. The runoff pH was 6.5. I am going to assume that those numbers are okay. We will have a little spray bottle with water in it to spray down the soil on top of the seed to keep it moist. Cross your fingers everyone! .
Make sure to take note of the weight after it's full and when it was just dry soil. You really want to get the feeling of a saturated and an almost dry pot.
You're going to kill this Gramps!

Just to go off on a high tangent;

Gramps, you have a pretty wild advantage over us seeing folks. I'm sure you are much more in tune with your other senses.
The weight thing for example; you might notice different deviations in weight which will help when it comes to watering.
Seeing is one part, but in reality, all the action goes on underground. Us eyeballers can't see that....
Maybe you'll be able to tune into it better. Just always remember. Happy roots, happy fruits!!!

Uhhh...BW...she's in a cup right now. I did feel the weight of the cup in my hand before and after we saturated it. I will most definitely keep that all in mind when we get her into her final home. Right now... I'll be happy with the little green head above the soil. LOL
That being said, I never thought of it that way. Maybe I can tune in a little on the pot wait along with the feel of the girls themselves really good stuff there! Thanks!

Yeh had one of those moments today when I was cutting the back pasture. I always put down high nitrogen fertilizer in the late fall when soil Temps are about 50 degrees. This has the grasses take it in to the roots and build them up for the winter and spring. In spring I put down nothing as far as fertilizers and I always have the best pastures around. My neighbors all put down in spring and all that does is make the grasses grow on top but it never lasts long as the roots don't grow to tolerate heat, draught and other stresses. So light bulb goes off as it is truly in the root system for any plant to have great success.

Amen, brother. That's where most of my newest research will be focused on. From what I've seen with my two Auto grows so far, roots are to a plant what a solid foundation is to a building. Can't build above ground without something solid below. I am also going to try and pay extra attention while feeling around in the tent. Like lifting the pots, feeling the girls, for all the different nuances. See? The grasshopper can learn something. 😁 :thumb:

That's the idea gramps :) don't get too excited feeling up those girls ;) I have a feeling your gonna nail it this time though. I think growing meds brings out the little kid in all of us. I always get all giddy just before I open the grow room door haha.

Root systems will directly effect how big your plants and how big and plentiful the flowers and fruits are.. my favorite part of exhausting the last part of knowledge from a plant is pulling it right out of the ground. If little to no roots come with you know that plant was weak with small spindly roots. If you are tuggin at your plant and that sucker wont come out easy, it will have big strong roots still attached once you pull it out. I cant wait to pull out my tomato plant once the seasons over.. im super curious to see how much smaller the roots are. The plant is much smaller this year with not as many fruits.. big cherry tomatoes but not as many as last year. Was from the same seed too.

Sounds like you are picking up the basics Gramps! You will have this down like pro by the time this grow is done!

Great to see your auto's are perking up Grandpa!...They may not give you the most potential but the are teaching you the value of conservative watering, good growing conditions...don't give up on them, they have not given up on you! Just give them light nutes and wet the pot concentrating the water at the edge of the pot...they are still building roots because your bud are showing up on the under growth.

Your new photo will require a 18/6 light scheduled but not till it gets to a 3 leaf stage, and if your current autos continue to show growth and improvement, switching the light schedule won't affect them much...just keep doing what you are doing, light nutes and keep the pots slightly damp and light...better to water less more often that too much at once!:goodjob:

I hope your new water only soil is the answer, it will be interesting to see how it preforms for you!:cheertwo:

Thanks for all of the great encouragement! I am really excited to see how this comes out. The only place we have to put thethe cup with her in it is in the tent. She will get 18/6 light until it's time to flip her to 12/12. We will be using a spray bottle to keep the soil moist until she gets a good footing in the cup. In keeping with the name of the strain, I believe will call her Jaws. Will the rH being where it is in the twenties be enough for her? I kind of had an epiphany the other day or so ago, and thought maybe placing a bowl of warm to hot water with a towel in it to allow some steam to create humidity in the tent. Then, I thought watch your temps! What do you guys think of this idea?
As Emma and Elsa need, we will add water around the edges of the pots, and possibly even ad 1/4 strength Bloom every second or third watering. It's simply blows me away that they are still trying to produce flowers even after all the abuse I put them through.

He is right most of the important stuff is in the root zone and none of us can see that.
Thats why I hydro sons!!!! Alot of ppl say hydro is hassle and alot of work.. They are right but I view soil as a de-buffer or a screen or veil that is between me and my plant.. And it changes the ph and holds salts and all kinds of crazy stuff lol..hydro baby. Soil is a middle man. It does save you some room for error but you have to keep the soil healthy to keep the plant healthy... lol fook that.. Btw missed you guys my phone broke and I lost communication with the outside world... I imagine you guys could barely stand to continue without me and my cheesy proofs..I'm back now its ok guys..lmfao missed you all. and maddabber I tried to get that name and it was taken...nice to meet you..lol

MD...welcome! Sure glad you could join us. Please pull up a comfortable chair and help yourself to some cold Cokes and Mountain Dews. This will probably be a roller coaster ride. I hope you don't get sick too easily... LOL.
I look at it like there is no such thing as a permanent high.. So if you not on a roller coaster then your permanently low. :)

I'm sure that makes sense, somewhere. Sorry, I am way too stoned to process that. But I do get the idea. LOL I love Sunset Sherbet!
We sprayed the top of the cup with Jaws in it with water pHed to 6.6. The one thing I didn't think of, and I should have, is her height to the lights. We're going to have to find a way to get her up closer to the lights. Not sure how, but we will do our best to figure it out.
