Aren’t you utilizing only a small amount of pressing force. What are the benefits of going over 6 ton press or even a 2 ton press?
Several companies/people sell plates/controllers.
I have recent experience with two presses, a 2.5x2.5 @ 2 tons and a 4x4 @ 12 tons. Both of these presses use the same single element in each plate heater.
The product you get is the end result of two curves, temp and pressure. Temp we set, it's static for each run generally with our lower end presses. The variable IMO that effects outcomes is pressure.
I had recent grows where I had about a qp of two different plants. I got to press these two plants and a couple others with both presses.
I've spoken about it in bits and pieces in past posts, here are my observations:
-the 2 ton press seemed to produce the most product running at 210F. Lowering the temp ANY reduced yields. My Raspberry Diesel yielded almost 1/3 less when pressing at 175 vs 220. The 12 ton press produces yields that are within about 2-5% when I reduce temp by the same amount. This shows that pressure matters plain and simple. It was repeatable with all the plants.
-shit tastes better at lower temps IMO. Sure you can press at 220 and do flaming hot throat burning dabs all day like youtube, but now that your making your own product, lets enjoy it ok? To avoid decreasing yields with lower temps use more freaking pressure.
-larger presses weigh more, take up more space, are more difficult to hide and move - remember I use a blow up doll to cover mine up-smaller presses can be brought over to your buddies house easier, but their also more prone to tip, and harder to use because of space constraints AND you limit the amount you can press at a time. Ever try to press 2 zips using 3.5g bags vs 14g bags. More pressure gives one a lot more options.
-if your a daily dabber get something that presses more than 1/8. If you have never dabbed before and are a daily smoker, just plan on you actually enjoying this and realizing it's easier on your lungs and your going to prob use less product and get wayyyyy more stoned once it's dialed in.
-larger plates and mo' pressure allow larger bags. Bags cost the same for 3.5g or 14g. Larger bags are easier to position on plates unless you have girly hands.
It's basically like using a screwdriver vs using a cordless driver....big difference in ease of use. But there are other factors to consider....
