Best thing you can use to keep root rot and alge away is Dutch Master Zone or BPN's Blue Zone. It keeps the system sterile.

yeah looks like ill be going that way for now. not sure if the fatty acid spray and the dead incects in the water all started acting like food or something =/
just ordered 25 3l air pots to get me started in my new grow pool after sexing.
got something called nilnat for 20 quid to kill fungus gnat eggs in the soil.
cleaned out my water, will keep an eye on it to see if i have nutrients leaking somehow.
got a dual spec 600w bulb on the way also.
some more money is on its way imminantly and i will buy my new soils and the pool. and a bigger multi head bubbler.
using real smart pots with open bottoms that self shade the roots should tidy this up considerably.

if and when you get the MOtM they send you a bunch of good stuff to combat critters
so maybe you dont want to order to much stuff brother and spend cash if you aint gots too.Merry Christmas brother

Hell Ya!!! kill the little bastards, once they know what you're capable of they seem to be a little scared, I see em every now and again, but they run when they see me coming! I like the gas method!

yeah it sucks i have multiple infestations.
it seems i have gnats, those little flies that look like houseflys but smaller and some other wierd loking bug in the soil, couldnt get my head around what it looked like. a bit like half the size of an ant, white, think it had many legs and moved fast.
so im gassing the room, i got some beneficial bacteria type stuff for my water and i have my nilnat crystals for mechanical warfare in the soil, lol, biological,chemical and conventional all at once, oh and some of those yellow sticky cards.
i also got some liquid growmore and a fresh bottle of seaweed im going to mix into the soil tonic just to give my plants that little extra support during the battle.
i wont say 'flush' as im trying not to leech away any of the food in my organic soil, but i do want to saturate the soil with this fluid.
the gnaat killers generally say pour a bit on top...but im sure that with air pots you need to consider the problem as 360degrees

At least you know your medium supports life! LOL, they store the soil outside and anything that wants to can get in thru the vent holes. I fight those gnats every grow, and I know their comin in the soil. The only way to eliminate the problem is to sterilize the soil, and that would take a huge amount of effort. I can just see the look on my old ladys face when I started bakin soil in the oven...LOL. She's actually pretty cooperative as she will be imbiding also in the booty! She is actually pretty stoked on the whole idea after she saw what could be done by a person with only two brain cells!!
peroxide works
What cultivator said, I attacked them first with the peroxide, watered it in, then I keep em at bay with the worry free spray. I guess it gets watered in too. Those g nats are very destructive!!

yeah i think im going to order some online.
they definatly must have come in with the soil, we have peppers and tomatoes downstairs in my old soil and non of them have any pests at all.
i really like the soil im using tho as its from a wildlife charity. does it make sence to peroxide sterilise entire sacks in a cement mixer on the day i buy them, then just introduce life again afterwards?

IDK, But I am taking note that they're not growing in that tomato and pepper soil! I just talked to my bro in nor cal and he told me he has never replaced his soil! He just keeps ammending it. It would be hard to replace a couple of dumptrucks full every year...LOL.
