"nothing like the smell of rotting dung to wake you up in the morning!!!!" funny thing is when im brewin my nutes up for a heavy feed or the stuff i put into soil for a nice long 90+day cook i guage its readiness by if it makes me gag and how hard i gag if it gags me to the point of near vomiting im like "yup its ready!" lol (i have a somewhat weak stomach for fermenting type smells did the same thing when i used to brew stout)just means it contains things like the chemical based time release capsules and things like that...not at all based on rotting plant matter

im sort of skirting the job at the moment, im up there but trying to rearrange the room and get rid of as much as possible, my life is pretty much in that room and its swelled rather a lot. was a time i could roam the country with just a backpack and a pullalong, lol

last possible update of the year =)
First off the bad news, just my like brother from another mother...B.I.D, im having to abandon 'wet grown' temporarily.
now that i have completely taken apart my mk 2 pots and examined everything i have found the source of all my woes.
that f'kin kitchen towel, lol
first thing it does wrong is enhance the osmosis effect way too much. the bottom half of my soil was swamp.
the second thing that failed, even though i tested the tishue for its lack of pulping capability, i did not factor in thats it was actually very delicious compost material. on most of my pots the tissue has been completely eaten by fungus.....so pot full of fungus equals what my friends...fungus gnats =( so now at least we know what went wrong.
this is a temporary setback my friends, hydroganics will live again in the new year. probably when i get a new location to grow my bulk ill revist hydroganics as my home hobby, lol. i am utterly certain that hydroganics offers the possibility for plug and play bud making. i know i still have some hardcore doubters, but to those i say that everything that should have gone wrong, didnt.
they survived quite well the unmodified tap water open to light and was drinking several litres a day by the end. if this was really an underground river, that layer was an astounding success.
swapping over to air pots where ONLY the roots will drive the capiliary action my soil should stay a lot dryer. TBC..

this is what they look like before the update. look how pale the left ones are. that soil is only 2 weeks older than the right pot. i might possibly have suspected depleted nutes if my 3 regs didnt start showing all manner of fake deficiencies, a classic symptom of gnats.
These 3 have now been scrapped. a tragedy for sure, but my plans have changed and they are going to slow me down. im now going fully automatic, growing my kc45s to term and growing fastbud no2 in any availible spaces. in theory i should be able to get an early and a 2nd early out of the fastbud before the kc45s are huge and ready to give me buds.. if i really need to, i may cross breed the two to give me a better average yeild/time/size.
my new dual spec bulb, will be getting a 2nd one of these on the go asap.

all this reflective material is ok, but to be honest i would rather lose a little light at this point and be far more open to air circulation and a feeling of less cluttered.
mixing up my anti gnat tonic. the dosage per litre is quite low of the nilnat/tanlin but fully permiates all of the soil to assist in preventing side door access to gnats with air pots. ill give them a full strength dose next watering.
filthy looking floor...being replaced.
hydroganic roots which spent their entire life at ph 7.4-7.6 plain tap water...not too shabby at all.
god damn Gnats!!!! i caught these two in the act...airosol insecticide at point blank range..die mother frakkers!!!!

shame really, but they will only cause grief in soil.

i could sit here bemoaning my fate and wondering why me, or i could just bite the bullet accept that im my own worst enemy, and make the changes needed for success and a happy ever after ...
hydroganics is not dead tho by a long shot, i just dont have the resources right now to give it its minimum requirements. this story isnt over =)
