GiGaBaNE's 3rd & Final Journal - At Least Until I Change Country

but i go to work in like 3 hours for a 1 day contract, lol

Better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick...will it lead to anything else for you?

naw. not unless i want it to.
i dont work by choice...well i say by choice its more like biological impediment.
i hate leaving the home, i hate meeting lots of new strangers and most of all i hate working for other people.
to be honest im still sulking from losing my business years ago, lol.

i didnt go to that job in the end. stayed up most of the night stressing about it then slept thrugh =/

its not a huge loss, we earn enough to survive, it just means less pocket money.
i want to be a full time gardner to be honest and im going to be...it just takes a bit longer without decent start up funds.

Yeah I too only like working for myself. Done it most of my life. Plan to keep on doing it that way.

After this first grow season I have certainly been enjoying myself. For those who dont know growing a lot of plants is some hard work. It aint just tossing some seeds in the dirt and comming back to chronic trees.

But TBH I love it. I have been loving growing these past few months. Even before I started I always felt like my next house should be off in a nice rural place like the forests of Oregon. Now the forests of North Cali also look nice.

I could totally see me just renting out this house, packing up, then moving out to the forest to become a full time gardener. I like the dirt, the sweat, and the outdoors.

Who knows Gigs, becoming mountain men just may be in the future for both of us.

couldnt agree more!

its not like im work shy or anything, when i was running a computer business i was pulling 90 hour weeks and just eating kebabs from the shop next door and sleeping on the office floor to save travel time, lol.

as a labourer, im definatly the hardest working grunt on any site im at, its just plucking up the nerve to walk through the gates.

the whole renting out the house and moving to the country is exactly the plan bro.
but first i need to get a few crops done.

AHH MAN.. I AINT HEARD THAT SINCE I WAS LIKE 8 yrs OLD!!!! Shit brings back memories of my older brother Rocking away to WASP,MEGADEATH<METALLICA-Master of Puppets:) -Awsum, and good ol' Iron Maiden!!!
I actually had to Poo-tube Iron Maiden before to listen to Fear Of The Dark. Man i gotta get that album again...
And i like your atitude about work bro.. I dont like to work for others to make em rich, unfortunately ive had to bust my ass for peanuts up until last few years.. Im hoping to get my mechanics Qualificat. soon so i can get MY SHOP UP n RUNNIN':)
Thought i better stop by your journal as youve been poppin in to help me a bit!!
Hope your girls all are going well and doing their thing:) Take it ez buddy, have a good one and will chat soon. Smokemupm8..

Well my darling, I'm still planning on winning the lottery so I will set up a little green hideaway somewhere in The Lakes! It could be a little 420 Lodge of Looniness. Yup, like that idea ;)

trivial update:

my auto's are growing just fine. the difference between the slowest one and the fastest one is growing, but al conditions are pretty much equal, if not in favour of the small one(it has a dedicated 6500k all to itself now).

My timer broke, so now im on 24-0, hope it doesnt annoy my autos into hermie =/

managed to get 3 more jugs, so my 2 surviving clones will be going into them later today and i will take 2 more from the toothpick indica, lol.

apparently more just will arive at the store on the 11th...we shall see.

hopefully i get paid tommorow so ill be ordering 20 seeds of my new strain, its going to be wierd having to learn fast how to sex the plants, i want to stick a male into a gigapot(small) to keep it bonsai, this will go at the opposite end of the house and hopefully i will harvest lots of lovely pollen. i will probably build it a micro green house to prevent too much pollen drift, like a humidity dome, but with just enough thermal ventilation to not be.

still no sign of my new lights or my humidity meter =(

Brave man branching out into this side of the game...not ever going to be for me I think, I like (need!) things simple :)

I'm so excited to watch you though! :cheer:

dont worry about the autos going hermie mate, i tried it and it just dont happen, i tried crazy light schedule and total dark for 2 days etc etc and i could not make it go hermie on me, it might happen if you stressed the soil or growing medium by over nute or under nute, but i found no way at making the auto go hermie, plus chances are 24-0 is the best option for auto as they flower due to age and not light schedule, so in theory the more light they get over a given period should give them more growth,

but ive not done much testing to find this out for sure, id need to buy a few seeds of the same strain and run some side by side with different lighting schedules, i will be doing this at some point

Phew...this is extremely reassuring as my autos are just getting the light they can. What a relief. Thanks as always DP!

thats interesting. i would like to test that to destruction when i go into cross breeding autos with non autos,,,,want to see how far i can get the strain towards the non auto pheno, whilst still being an auto and also at one point in cross breeding does it lose its resistance to hermie =D

thats what im in the process of doing, im just waiting on this bluematic to finish so i can get the seeds, i crossed the bluematic with a fast growing and big yielding strain, you cant buy the strain i crossed it with, i got it free from a seed seller that was bringing out a new strain, it might be out now but i dont know the name, so here is what i crossed it with
bluematic female cross with an ak47 cross uk cherry cheese male,
now the ak47 cross uk cherry cheese male grows quick and the buds are very fat, so what im doing is letting this bluematic go way past its harvest date just to make sure the seeds are ready, then ill sprout the seeds and grow them under 24-0, then i can pick out any autos, a quater of the seeds will be auto and the rest will be none auto,
so my plan is to get the best male and female that turn out auto and cross them with each other to get some auto seeds, hopefully the yield and growth will be better, but then ill cross the results of this with a none auto that came from the same mother, im hoping this will slowly weak the auto strain without doing to to quick, so then i can see which sets of seeds will give me the best auto with the best yield,

i know it will mean it will be a few weeks longer to grow, but it will still be auto and should yield more and be quicker to grow so will be a bigger plant, thats my plan anways.

i wouldnt worry about the auto going hermie, i could not get it to happen, i wanted the pollen to get some fem auto seeds, but i could not get it to go hermie no mater what i did with the lights, i think it would take more stress than just the light schedule to make it go hermie, so i wouldnt worry to much, it will continue to grow and should grow slightly more due to getting more light, none auto plants will stretch when giving longer dark periods as i found out when i had a power cut, but autos dont share this trait, i tried giving it dark for 48 hours and i measured the growth and it did not grow at all during the dark, a normal plant would of grown at least an inch, so from what i can tell these plants need the light more than the dark, i guess this is why they are autos as it dont matter if they get night time or not, they will still flower under constant light,
i was told that if i gave an auto 24-0 from day 1 then it would not start to flower until i gave it 1 night of darkness, but as usual it started flowering around week 2 to 3 so this proved to me that they will grow and flower under constant light,

the other thing i was to try is a dwc auto, i noticed how different my plants grew in a dwc set up, in soil the plant grew a whole lot slower than the same clone grown in a dwc setup, so thats my plan when i order some autos, i was going to order the ones you gave the link for, their regular so breeding is possible, plus i could grow in soil and dwc and compare the growth and yield, autos are something i want to work with so thats my plan

Hello Giga. I was wondering if your pH meter came with instructions ? They say it is not good to let the bulb dry out. They make storage solution that is used for calibrating it too. I fill a 3oz cup half way with this and lean it into the corner of a closed medicine cabinet when not in use. Once a week I clean the cup and refill halfway with fresh solution. I then inspect the bulb end of the meter under a strong light and a magnifying glass. If there is any crud growing or building up, I use the end of a flat toothpick to loosen it. I also gently rub the toothpick around the bulb itself and rinse it out well in a small cup of water. After drying it with a towel, I blow into the bulb end to remove any remaining water before putting it into the fresh solution to calibrate. 9 out of ten times it is still reading good, but once in a while it needs a slight adjustment. If you take care of them, they will be more reliable and last you for years...

I have learned to stay on a schedule to keep things moving along. I have a calendar of things to do and Tuesday is my meter cleaning and solution changing day, lol. I hope you don't mind my input !

Can we call it Looney Haze Lakes?

yep, i should have my money tommorow hopefully, ordering 20 and they are going into DWC...as soon as i determine a male, its going into a small gigapot to bonsai in a tiny grow cupboard of its own with 1x <11w 2700k and 1 <11w 6500k im going to milk for pollen then kill it. all other males will be defoliated then killed, lol..waste not want not ;)

mine is a cheap ass PH meter. im expecting it to die any time soon. im abusing my ph meter right now to establish the correct mixes for a fixed volume of water so i can run blind if need be. IE i know that i mix 11 litres of tap water to half a cap of seaweed and half a scoop of phostrogen. and im almost dialed in on PH down...aprx 2ml does it for me and that takes the water to 5.8 i then leave that water in for 72 hours and its at about 6.3 then, so i shake it up to air then pour that mild 6.3 water into any soil plants ....no waste water/nutes =D.

if i get it right, i can just by a cheap ass ph pen at the begining of a new grow. thats the great thing about understanding the fixed variables...once you have the exact recipe and timings you can worrk like from a cook book and not need to rely on the pen.

i have notices that the bigger the root structure on my roots the faster the PH change. im pretty sure there is a clue to be gleaned from that. (clones can be irregular in rooting, so ignor them for this formula) sorta like plant strainxplant weight=ph change per day.

i would love to write a recipe book one day listing all the strains and their feeding numbers...all you would need to follow it, is the start point of your plain water.

Edit: and no, i didnt come with any fluids at all and i dont plan on getting any. i give it a very good rinse with 7.4 tap water then put the cap back on wet. im using it so many times a day right now to build my mental ph map that it never really gets dry.

i did think about using ph down and tap water to make 2 cups of fluid with the same PH as the calibration liquids, but i suspect they would drift of accuracy just the same. so its a race to get my facts before my measuring instrument starts to lie, lol. as long as my tap water doesnt change i can calibrate based on my water...its 7.4 morning noon and night, so if my pen starts to deviate i can trust its the pen not the fluids ;)
