Fun In The Sun 2016 - Tiger - Ape - Pitbull - Gorilla & More - Run Wild

I am very late to the party, but let me say your plants look amazing! Also, the kief jar idea - ingenious! Thank you for sharing!

:thanks: and :welcome:

You are just in time assuming weather doesn't do things in.
It is raining right now. I was able to put up a make shift cover over GASS and LH #2 - similar to what I did last summer. I need to get down there and finish it up before rain collects and ruins it.

I still have more research to do on which new hash process to undertake. With my first time coffee filter method I got 3 grams of great hash out of 7 grams of product. The dry sift method video I saw yesterday seemed like the guy used a 1/4 lb of product and got a gram of hash? Not a good ratio.
The guy who gave me the lights said he uses the dry ice method. More research!!!
The life long friend helping me harvest said WHAT to bud washing. So I had him watch Pigeons420 utube vid. and he said but his buds are small and airy and yours are fat and solid. He said its going to mess your up. I said i will ask.
So Major, no worries about bud washing big fat buds? and Im going to follow Pigeons method, which is just like yours!
Great day to all!

No worries about bud washing. I replied in your journal. ;)
I did the dry ice method last year. Yield was the same as this method (for me). I'm getting an average of 15% yield: start with 7 grams of good, dry bud or trim and you should get 1+ gram of kief. If you can get triple that amount with the coffee filter method, I'd stick with it. In fact I'd like to know more about how it works.
:high-five:

Right on Major! Says allot about you! Open mind goes far my brother! This trade is somewhat like the Tile/Stone trade......you will never stop learning AND you can learn something from the dumbest Motherf****r, so keep an open mind!!
I stumbled across the "Coffee Filter Method for Hash" on utube. I had bud shake sitting in jars for a year lets run it! I did probably 10 runs and this is what I perfected..... take 7 grams of good shake from the freezer. Put it in a mason jar with 4-5 ice cubes. Add 16oz of cold water (one water bottle) Shake steady for 5 min. Put jar in fridge for 2 hrs. put all the trim in a bowel with a coffee filter on top with a screen. Got the screen at the grocery store. let it drain, push on it some. take that trim and put it in another bowel for second run. take all the juice in the jar and shake it then pour it in the coffee filter/screen. it takes any where from 4 hrs to all night to drain (sucks). After it drains you got about 2 grams of hash. then I take the same trim for a second run.... put it in a jar with 4 ice cubes water, shake. fridge and drain. I get about a gram with the second run. Now Ive done 14 grams in the jar, ive done 3 grams in the jar and ive found that 7 grams of product is perfect! Wait, when you first put the product in the bowel theres no coffee filter just the screen You put the filter in the screen for the juice only.
This is why I asked you about the cold water bag method because Im thinking its just like the coffee filter method just larger scale???
Im computerd out. Got to get off here. Im flipping the tent today. Then up potting just the girls soon.
$350.00 elec. bill Major! Ive got to redo this indoor!
Happy Harvest!

Say major, here hoping not to much damage from yesterday and last night storm, what a nasty timing ,caused one of the plants to be chopped a little early . Showed the first sign of bud rot in the top of a few of the buds, thought it best to remove it before it spread , will be keeping a close watch on the remaining plants ,sure wish for a couple weeks of drying weather with a light wind, oh well first time and all....thanks for your journal,it has been a nice read and your group of friends have a lot of knowledge,PS, I had no idea how intense the work is manicuring and starting the curing process, as a fist time ever and getting all my knowledge here I was not prepared , just cleaning my shears and hands was a chore! Well I found with the right music and sipping on a couple of fine crafted beers and having the storm rage outside ,all and all it was kinda nice...

Yes Major small scale bubble hash. Allot easier to type!! Again 3 grams hash per 7 grams product. Maybe I will just buy the 3 bagger and upscale my process. Im not making any soon. I think another reason it turned out so good is because it sat in a jar for a year. Best hash I ever smoked!
As I am a product of the 60's all the Kief/bubble hash I ever smoked has been crap. Must be because of the quality of product used. Medicines way better now and Im sure the hash that I think is shit was made out of crap product back in the day. I remember Blond Lebanese! It seems all the good hash back in the day was imported. Anything made here was crap. I was very impressed with my coffee filter hash I made.
Great day Major!!

Looks like a nice pull from your first grow. :goodjob:
I hate trimming. I'm OK for the first hour, but after that, it is just plain tedious. But you are right - a rainy day and some good brew and music helps a lot. Fresh finger hash is a nice Easter egg at the end of the session.
I'm hoping for the best with my grow. I was able to get a cover over the exposed plants at the last minute, so I think I'm good for the time being. My main grow's cover is very precarious so we'll see how long it holds up.

There is always a compromise between quality and yield, along with time, effort, and technique. This dry sift is probably not for everyone, but it is exceedingly quick and easy. It is different than bubble hash. It reminds me more of the Moroccan or Lebanese Blonde from back in the 60's-70's, than anything else I've smoked. If you have the bubble bag set, you can try a quick run and see what you think. That's what I did last year. Just use a bag about 125u for the screen.
:volcano-smiley:

Major. Do you decarb your hash before using? :)

No - the only decarb happens as it is consumed. Since I smoke it, it gets heat at that point. I love the taste of un-decarb'd herb, but am not a fan of the nutty, cooked flavor once it has been heated. When my wife makes butter/oil/tincture from it, it gets decarbed during the processing. Other than that, I leave it raw and sticky until it hits the pipe.

Well I'm running late as usual but I slide in before the gate shut....:volcano-smiley: I've checked out your grow and wish you the best with the weather... Rooster1 running thru some well know gardens..... :peace:

Run Rooster, run! Grow journals are like a box of chocolates, ya never know what you're gonna get!

Sorry Major, I couldn't resist. :battingeyelashes:

Major, so you think 125u screen/bag is the best for a one run operation, awesome!! Im going to get two of them so I can run the product twice. For some reason thats the step I want to take is just scale up my coffee filter method. I realize 3 grams hash from 7 grams product isent very clean but it sure is good!!
Thank you for helping me Major!

I wish I knew.
I'm still experimenting with mesh size and technique. My wife ordered a 125u screen but I don't have it yet. All I can tell you so far is, I was not impressed with 75u and 150u works pretty well. Other sizes still need to be tried.

EXTRA! EXTRA!
This, just in from the "Better Late Than Never Department".
:cheesygrinsmiley:

I cobbled together a temporary cover made from the plastic I used last year in the veggie garden. I decided GASS and LH#2 were worth trying to salvage. Even though the plastic is a bit brittle from being out last summer and fall, and being stored outdoors all year, I think it will last long enough to keep these two happy(ish) for another couple of weeks.

We were at 99 degrees a week ago. Today we won't even hit 60. It's been raining since Friday and it is supposed to continue for another few days. It feels silly to water plants in the pouring rain. I get soaked but the plants don't get to enjoy Mother Nature's auto-watering system.

Nights are down to 40-44. I'm not sure how many of these gals are going to finish. The two sativas definitely are not impressed with the cool weather. They're dropping leaves like my ex-wife drops her panties for strangers.

GASS (about another 1-1/2 weeks, I reckon)

Neat thread my friend. Ahhh, the travails of outdoor growing. Hope it finishes well!

Peace, Hyena
