First Time Grow

LKA's asking the important question - do they smell//are they slimy vs having the smell of "clean dirt" and just being stained by the nutes.

Cutting off roots is brutal to a plant but that might be the only way to deal with it. Negative knowledge on how to deal with it. Maybe someone can chime in or do a posting in the "sick plant" section.
After adding that orca stuff even after two hours I could see some difference. I will post a picture tomorrow. As far as smell…. All I can smell is the plant lol she stinky. Doesn’t feel slimy to the touch

That's excellent news and a great testament for Orca.

Don’t mind humidity , we got snow in Denver so I dropped humidity to help maintain a higher temp. It’s cold outside! Side note. She officially clears the top of the thermometer :)

Denver, eh? I lived in the Springs for a few years and then 8 years in Broomfield. I really miss the mountains but the temps? Not so much. SoCal is more to my liking. :-)

Lookin good smelling good

It’s pretty incredible to watch. Actually had a boo-boo yesterday and luckily I was home to catch it quick. I accidentally left my fan pointing up and it was blowing the humidifier up into the carbon filter. The fabric on the filter got wet and clogged. Stopped pulling air out of the tent. So she sat in 100% humidity for maybe an hour. I happened to notice my tent wasn’t making the same noise and checked it. Glad I did. Her leaves had already begun to cup. But left the tent open for a couple hours and made some strategic adjustments

Also noticed since adding the orca stuff my ph has not bumped from where it is at. Haven’t had to balance in three days now. It’s stayed the same. Roughly 5.5-6

Also hope you are having a fun safe weekend! My hockey team won last night (go Avs) so all is good!

I have questions:
1: Topping? When? Should I?
2: when should I start some high stress training?
3: the little sprouts of leaves coming from the main stem… will these become branches? Or should I prune them?
4: should I prune off the fist single leaves ?since they just seem curled and not helping a whole lot..

#1 after they form the 5th node they are considered mature.
After that it is considered acceptable to remove her top.
#2 again after the 5th node.
You will see the branches start to alternate, also a sign of maturity.
#3 Don't prune anything.
the main stems produce leaves, where that leaf joins the stem a branch will form. Just let everything grow. No benefit from removing them.
#4 any leaf that has any green on it will preform photosynthesis.
Ever little bit gives her more energy for growth.
I don't remove leaves at all.
If they fall off fine otherwise I let them be.
Especially in veg and so young.

As long as she is healthy and growing well any time after number 5 you can top her.
I used to follow the Maple Leafs, too painful now.
Congrats on the win, hope they go all the way.

Any good tips or info on how to top?
Benefits?
Tips or tricks on high stress training?
Benefits?
Do both or one?

Topping, or cutting the main stem below the fifth node, will result in two main colas. Many people will remove the lower two nodes and leave jest bode 3 & 4 (quadline). Then, train the four main branches out. It leaves a very symmetric structure.

Fimming is cutting just above where you would top and leaving part of the top node. This will usually leave four mains instead of two. Sounds better, but four mains coming out of the top can get crowded.

Both of these are considered high stress training (HST). They will both cause the lower nodes to grow quickly, even without defoliation. Both can be combined with low stress training (tying/weighing down branches) to help shape the plant and keep an even canopy.

If you want to play around, you could try topping one and fimming the other. Use LST to try to keep them the same height. Have fun!
