First Grow, Deep Water Culture, Northern Lights, Pics

A Picture says a thousand words. Look great to me. One idea. How about taking the blacket off the tub and let the air blow directly on the tub. Just wondering if that blanket is keeping in some heat, somehow.

That was my first thought when I saw that blanket, it may be holding heat in, unless there is a heat source close by the you need to protect the res from.

What I do to keep them cool is I went to home depot and got one of those like PVC/ plastic stacking shelve things for your garage or w/e. Next I through the tanks on top while the fans were underneath the tubs always blowing on high right to them, this dropped my temp by 3 degrees. Also the excess air up the side gives a lot of air to the plants then sends the hotter air up to be vented out! Thought about it by just roaming homedepot = /

Removed the blanket and found what I think is a spider mite?

Have you ever dealt with spider mites before? What kind of bleach solution are you talking about. Do you have any kind of miticide around? You need something with neem oil in it. I have a product from Fert-I-Loam, the name escapes me and I'm not at home.

I treat my water with Azamax, it makes the plants toxic to the mites. You need to act fast, were you prepared for this?

No, I haven't dealt with them. This is the first one I have seen. The bleach solution I'm going by is 1 tbsp to 1 gallon of pH'd very hot water. No miticide. No neem oil.

I was prepared that they'd probably show up eventually and I knew what needed to be done. I doused them in water and went on with making the bleach solution. I don't have any products on hand other than bleach, some alcohol, home defense max, white vinegar and water.

I figured the bleach solution would be best for tonight since most places I could get something to truly treat (neem oil, etc.) it are closed. I have a hydroponic store about 10 miles from my house that I'm gonna check to see if they're open tomorrow.

Deal with it in the morning. If you found them early enough it's no big deal. They are a fact of life. Check out the gardening shops near you too. They carry all the same stuff sometimes at half the price. The guys that run my hydro shop are great, Tim custom built my control box. But the guys across the street are a rip off.

If you don't have any Home Defense from Lowe's or HD you need to get some on hand. You can use it now and in between grows. Insecticidal soaps are also good.

Bleach anywhere around my plants would freak me out.

That's what I mean, I kind of cringed when he said the bleach thing. I don't think you want that around your plants, pretty toxic stuff!

I was going off a post of Roseman's. idk...

I have some Home Defense Max (pretreated the closet with it at the beginning of grow). I can spray that directly on my plants?

Sadalix424, you'll be fine with bleach. Contrary to what everyone wants to believe a bleach solution will not kill a plant. Read where all these growers have slime issues with reservoirs and they let water sit out to let chlorine dissipate and then said res has slime issues. Small amounts of bleach work great in hydro. It kills bacteria and fungus that is not wanted in hydro grows. It also works great at pest control. Don't buy into the hype that you need hydro store remedies, neem oil, azamax and so on. They work but they cost. Garlic, hot peppers, rosemary, 90% alcohol, and many other things work great for controlling spider mites. Good luck.

What exactly will the spider mites do to your plants j/w. I think your stayin pretty calm about it and finding a solution to take care of it which is good i think i would be freakin out and just sit back here all day like a tweaker watchin for them lil bastards lol. Keep up the good work im sure you'll get em takin care of.

They eat your plant, you will see brownish dots all over in a certain area then they lay their eggs under the leaf, infestation can havppen very fast so you have to be fast to act. They are a grow killer.

really i hope i dont get any that wouldnt be good ill be pissed if some stupid bugs ruin all the work and time i have put into this.

Whatever it was, it was spinning a web on the leaf it was on. Anything doing that kind of shit to my plants has to go. lol....

You got that rite i just got back from my hydro store to get some pesticide spray i can spray my plant with and got me my flower bulbs and flowerin nutes. Bout a week and a half left before i start flower. what week you in for veg and when you plan on flowerin them?

I'm in week 7. Since height is my only limitation growing in this closet, that's how I'm planning on when to put them into flowering. My closet can probably handle waiting until they're all over a foot and a half tall.

As of today (3/27), my tallest is 14 in. The smallest is 8 in. Two days ago (3/25) the tallest was 12.5; smallest was 7. 1.5 (tallest) growth + 1 (smallest) growth = 2.5/2 = about 1.25 in growth/per day (average). The smallest needs 10 in. to be at a foot and a half tall. 10/1.25 = 8. So, at the current rate of growth, I still have a little over a week before they're going into flower. Obviously, this is if growth stays at this current speed and not guaranteed. So I'm looking at probably anywhere between 1-2.5 weeks, I'd guess.
